This video shows how I make my own custom string silencers for my bows. There are many great silencers out there, but I prefer to make my own and make them my way. Here is how I do it.

Good vid. Something you might try & I use is taking advantage of the heterodyne principal of canceling resonate frequencies. In short, the heterodyne principal states that when two frequencies are mixed they produce both even and odd additional frequencies. This is how radios are able to transmit or receive a wide spectrum of frequencies without having a separate resonate circuit for each frequency. A naked bow string will sing like a plucked guitar string SO if you tie one silencer 1/3 the distance from one end of the bow string and the other silencer 1/4 the distance from the opposite end that combination will cancel out both even & odd resonate frequencies. That will make the string go thump instead of twang. Measure the distances with bow strung from where the string touches limb. This works with longbows, recurves & compound contraptions too. Aside from noice canceling it also allows the use of silencers with less bulk and mass giving you a little extra arrow speed. I use those small silicon string silencers from 3 Rivers Archery...string leeches or wishbones or any of the others work just a well.

Thank you for this. Did not know that. Appreciate you taking the time to explain it.

Hey dude thanks for the explanation on this. I've heard of this theory before and tried to explain it to a friend. He looked at me like I had lobsters coming out of my ears. Now i can use and explain this method. Big Thanks dude.

good esplanation, thanks. I've been robbing my wife's yarn stash for some time now making my silencers and It always brings a smile to my face when shoot the first dozen arrows or so when the lint from the new silencers flies off in a small cloud.

Thanks for the tutorial. Good info as always. After following your channel for awhile I finally took the plunge and got a recurve. I'm hooked now. I failed at my first attempt at making these. Top one is starting to fall out after shooting so I will try again tomorrow. I will say they do make the bow much quieter.

Same happen to me. Failed on my first 2. And then a year later when making thwm again failed that first one as well. Same reasons. Twists came undone. Once you figure out how to make sure the twists are going the same way everytime it's smooth sailing from there.

Also old freezers work good for a safe to hide guns ammo and just what ever. You can paint them cammo or just to blend in with the spare bedroom pile some old clothes lmao dirty underware and sox. Nobody gonna mess with your stuff. Most old freezers will also lock up or u can put your own pad lock on it.

could you do a video on how you make your strings,?
@SamkoTradBow5 жыл бұрын
I did! It was about 3 years ago so you have to scroll or search my videos for how to make a Flemish twist bowstring. I also did a video on serving the string that same week.

Has anyone tried putting silencers on the bow itself?
@SamkoTradBow4 ай бұрын
Don't see the need on a traditional bow. Your trying to take the sound out of the string. I have never tried a silencer on the bow limbs. I know theu make stickon ones though
