@@kevinsmithgaming i never said to binge watch this stuff... But every now n then watching something light awakens ur other parts of brain but exactly like you said to each their own but tbh i donot think anyone from any walk of life can not enjoy atleast one episode of Friends. Because weirdly that show was way ahead of its time. One can find productivity even into stuff that others consider leisure activity, it really depends on personal choice :)
@justluc85564 жыл бұрын
@@sukhqazmi5837 I also love Friends. I personally don't necessarily agree with Ali on not watching TV either--obviously spending five hours watching TV instead of doing your homework isn't good, but in the evening watching one episode of Friends is totally fine. People commonly overlook the concept of taking care of yourself when they try to be as productive as possible (at least that's what I've seen). And yes, when somebody in my class doesn't get a Friends reference my teacher made (iconic tbh), everyone's like O_o

My personal tip when studying which also applies 80/20 rule: Pretend that you have procrastinated and tomorrow is your exam. Try to learn just enough to barely pass the exam within 1 day. A day after that's done then you start dividing your study material. This fictive 1 day later exam is a good warming up, fast learning technique and a reminder that you might end up in that situation 1-2 weeks later when your real exam starts.

@AlloftheGoodNamesAreTaken4 жыл бұрын
Charles Cheng His statement is the biggest problem with all the productivity gurus. I like a lot of what they have to say, there are a lot of good tips that I find helpful. But the lack of awareness that nearly 100% of the people in the world are absolutely not in control of what they can do with their time reeks of privilege and “dominant group.”
@SandDune114 жыл бұрын
OIdStudentMom but you are in control of what you’re doing with your time, just think about it
@AlloftheGoodNamesAreTaken4 жыл бұрын
@@SandDune11 Wouldn't that be a perfect little world? I am in control of maybe 20% if I'm lucky. There are other variables including social status, race, gender, where we live, education, employment, etc, etc, etc, that go into how much control we have. We are no more in complete control of how we can use our time *100%* than we are in control where we were born or who we were born to. Now, if we want to talk about how we use the little time we DO have control over (and some of us honestly do not have that, maybe you could look into how the impoverished and oppressed and enslaved of the world are forced to live) then that is worthwhile. But to claim we are in complete control all the time is to lack awareness of how the vast majority of people in the world live.

The life-changing book for me was a book called The Now Habit. I can't overstate how much the principles in this book changed my life; without it, I'd never have gotten into med school or achieved any of the things I'm most proud of. It's quite different (and, I'll even say, better) than Getting Things Done, because it explores procrastination as an anxiety problem - people read books like GTD and yet still don't apply the principles and then feel frustrated with themselves because they don't know why. The Now Habit gives you really simple but profound tools for changing your thinking and your habits. I found the book by accident, and it predates the pomodoro technique (while still describing it, without the name). If you struggle with time management despite "knowing all the tricks," then The Now Habit is your best bet. Not getting paid for this endorsement, though I'd be glad to help the author, Neil Fiore, for all the help his book's given me!

I completely understand the whole "no TV rule", it is definitely one of my worst habits that I've been unable to successfully kick out. And there is one HUGE reason for this. The reason is that I'm trained to watch TV/Netflix during lunch/dinner. Which is why I end up, at least, spending two hours of my day doing this. What would be an alternative? I've tried reading but I find this extremely difficult to do. Sure, one alternative is definitely talking. But, being quarantined and stuck at home with family does not help with that.

I went to med school relatively late (at age 35) and that was in 2001. I'm not a fan of excuses, but I do think that it's way harder to focus today than when I was in school. The internet was around, but not like today - we had Palm Pilots, which allowed you to keep medical reference materials handy, but they weren't necessarily connected to the internet at all times; cell phones were just becoming popular but weren't permitted to be on in the hospitals. Getting down to work was much easier bc there weren't so many distractions. I'm glad I'm not in school these days, though I think your tips are really helpful!

Ali, You’re videos are simply impressive. The way your brain rambles on is, for me, refreshing. It is how my brain works and is the only way i know how to communicate with other humans. You have been the catalyst for organizing my thought process into a cohesive language that some people can actually understand. More importantly, you help me organize my mind and thoughts into systems. Prior to seeing your videos(and from that, Notion) I kept building systems in excel and google drives to input my thoughts and ideas into a computer/database. I spent hours trying/wishing there was a better way to format all of these ideas and thoughts into one space. Thankfully, I recently found Matt D’Avella and Thomas frank and because of that, the KZbin gods showed me you. I binged so many of your videos, that i don’t know where to start thanking you. I am so grateful that there are people like you out there in the world who help encourage positivity and productivity in such an applicable way. Thank you so much! P.s. Been following your content for over a year now. Can't tell you how much value you've added to my life. Keep producing great content and may you get all the success in life. A math teacher from Pakistan. Do you have a video on what software you use for video editing? I use this app called Lumafusion on my iPad. Also a weird question, how many kms do you run and at what pace?

I use final cut. I’ve made an online class about it: skl.sh/32TpEvm . No idea about my running speed haha

I'm watching all these productivity tutorials and at the end of each one, I realize that the authors most likely don't have a family (like at least one own child) and this is how you can plan so many activities during the day :P Nice video, though.

Amazingly, I really enjoy your videos. Even if I suffer from my very short attention span, I had never skipped any of your videos. Kudos, Ali!

So you're telling me that the way you have time to be a doctor, youtuber, etc. is by having an IOS extension that saves you literally seconds and by learning to type faster? I wish this video wasn't about concepts like the 80/20 rule and arbitrary computer extensions, but a real life view into your schedule. How much time do spend on different tasks a week? What does your calendar look like? I think an answer to these questions would be a far more helpful video.

Your content is super valuable. I've been clicking through one video after another for almost an hour now. Very helpful. Thank you for putting it out there :)

Does the rule "dont watch tv when your on your own" - also apply to not watching things on your lap top alone, like you tube videos?

One word... "kids".. before I had kids I was a brain surgeon, played for Barcelona, ran for parliament and had time to get my daily latte and meet with friends... My advice Ali... Have kids and then come back and advise on timekeeping 😉

Truest words spoken, with kids every thing gets interrupted every second whether it's tv or work

Hi Ali I discovered your videos through your video editing course on Skillshare (which I intend on starting soon) and now I'm binge watching your channel. 😊 I'm a law graduate/young lawyer and I've been working on courses and training for law students, surprisingly much like your 6Med concept. I'm new to YT and hope to start uploading course tutorials soon. I am interested in knowing what camera or phone you use to film your videos and any tips you have about filming? My camera quality seems to be the obstacle right now. Kind Regards Inge
