I do "Decrab" , for Landing any tailwheel, firts Center the acft with Runway and then alight the acft with the runnay so , if you are using left rudder you must use to right your controls , un orden not jet to turn You can level the plane and the wheels all touch at once, I did on tailwheels, like DC3, C46, and my own Pitts S2A. It Is the same tech,DECRAB, for DC6, B737, B727, E190, and A320. "Happy Landings"

The use of the luggage carrier as a visual aid was really helpful. I feel like I now have a much clearer understanding of why the CG position relative to the mains is so important. Looking forward to one day actually getting a tailwheel endorsement. Thx!

Learning to fly a tailwheel is a ton of fun! At first you’ll feel like you can’t even taxi the darn thing in a straight line. That’s OK. With some practice and good instruction, you‘ll be landing a Pitts (a couple hundred landings will do you good). The Main thing is: use SMOOTH RUDDER PRESSURE inputs, and !not! just mechanical rudder movements. Be quick with corrections if necessary, of course, but still FEEL the smooth rudder pressures to keep the nose pointing straight down the centerline. If your instructor tells you to “dance on the rudder” suggest he take ballet lessons and find another one with quiet feet. Smooth landings!

@@alexp.6406 In a Pitts I like to keep my heels on the skid plates and use toe pressure, that's why I wear race car shoes with soft flexible soles.

I just got my private and the next thing I want to go for is a tail wheel endorsement. There is actually a school nearby which offers it. I’ve always loved old tail draggers and I hear it makes you a better pilot. I also have this pipe dream about someday flying a pitts and doing aerobatics, which necessitates being a good tail wheel pilot first.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, a Pitts is a challenging plane to land and good foundational skills are required.

Great video. Short, informative and precisely to the point. Do you still have your S2?

I just discovered your channel a few days ago. Although I'm not a pilot, the content is very interesting, great job and thank you!

Was that the Sunbird biplane? Essentially a modified, hot rod Pitts.
@ssairshows10 күн бұрын
Yes! That's the airplane I set the 98 turn inverted flat spin world record in. It's not a modified Pitts, It's a reimagined version of the Pitts S1 designed from the ground up around the Lycoming 540 engine.
