I have a friend who worked very close to butch Hartman. He says even before everyone started hating him, he was always maniacal and extremely egotistical. To the extent that he full on believed butch had narsasistic personality disorder. He says the only reason no one knew was because nickelodeon was managing his image. Now that he's on his own, cracks started to form. At one point, both him and Butch were up for different Emmies. He got it, but butch didn't. The next day at work, the first thing butch says when he walks in the door is "hey how'd it feel to win an Emmy? I wouldn't know having never gotten one"

But you didn’t ask him uncomfortable questions or try to expose him unfairly. I love how absurd the premise of the gag was, to actually have happened and then spurred more like it. It reminds me of the video game detective work of Nick Robinson who’d constantly fly from California to Japan and back to talk to industry veterans (and in one instance the most popular American person on Japanese television).
