I run four rotary tumblers. I tried this urethane belt material to make drive belts but they would not last long. I now use o'rings of the appropriate size. Consider EPDM FDA O-Ring 70 Duro Black Model: E70343 Dimensions: 3-3/4"ID X 4-1/8"OD X 3/16"CS

Thank you! I'm always up to try new belting material.

Didn't try the little flet pads for the bottoms of chairs as a rub cushing instead? That's what I put in my tumbler and it prevents the jar from rubbing hard at all really smooth.
@kengensjewelry3 ай бұрын
That's a good idea. My only concern would be that they'd increase the friction of the rotation, but I imagine it wouldn't be by much.

@kengensjewelry I put two on mine and it seems fine probably only needs one actually.

can you describe how you got the bearings to work? did you extend the rollers or did you cut a rectangular hole to get those bearings in there? can you go in a little more depth about the bearings and the bearing housing please? thank you!

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but I do have a full tutorial on replacing the bushings in these units with actual bearings. You can find the video at kzbin.info/www/bejne/naq7YWWifdeLoMk If that doesn't answer your question let me know and I'll try to get you the info you're looking for.

My Chicago, from Harbor Freight, is just worn out after just 2 years of tumbling. I think I'll get a higher end tumbler next.
@kengensjewelry Жыл бұрын
Mine didn't even make it that long. They're great for hobbyists, but if anyone's even half serious, they're better off getting a better tumbler, like you said.

I run multiple tumblers. Thumbler Model B, two A-R1, a single barrel & a dual barrel Harbor Freight, a Thumbler UV-10, and two Mini-Sonic MT-4. The oldest tumbler is the Harbor Freight dual barrel that's over 20+ years old. The only thing I've changed on it are the drive belts & bearings one time. The barrels are still in good shape. What broke on yours that could not be fixed? ..
@candlewatt9 ай бұрын
@@LouinVB The rotary tubes wore out the metal holding them in. The tubes the tumbler rides on. The holes got so big the tumbler wouldn't tumble well enough to do its job.

Very helpful video. Can you tell me what size the belt material is? Or a link to it? Thank you.

It looks like I got a 3mm cord. I can't say that's the perfect diameter, but it's been working and holding up for me. Here's the link: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07W5LQJ5V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Mine has worked for over a decade with no issues tumbling coins to clean them.
@kengensjewelry3 күн бұрын
That's what I hear. Some people have no problem with them, and others have no end of problems. Of course, if you've had yours for that long, maybe it was just plain made with better materials and parts than the newer models?

Good ideas. I have a 20% off coupon but they won’t take it for the tumbler. Where did you get the coupon that can be used? Thank you.
@kengensjewelry Жыл бұрын
That sucks. My coupon was a managers special. I'm part of their free level of members rewards (I can't remember what they call the program) and every few months after I haven't gone in in a while they'll send me a 25% off managers deal in my email.

I got tired of doctoring up the harbor freight tumblers. picked up some good used Lortone units and never looked at the red ones again.

That is never a bad plan, either.

Why didn't you use super glue to join the belt together?
@kengensjewelry Жыл бұрын
Do you mean the belts that came with it that broke? Or the poly belt cord?
@ebbygshreve9577 Жыл бұрын
@@kengensjewelry The poly belt cord. Look like to me they were just "O" ring material. But super glue will not hold anything anymore except you fingers when you get it on them. Ha. I can remember years ago when super glue would hold, especially "O" rings but any more i cannot get it to even hold that very good.Ha.
@kengensjewelry Жыл бұрын
@@ebbygshreve9577 You aren't wrong about the super glue finger grabbing! What a pain! Literally, hehe. Everything I've seen for joining the poly belt has melted them together, and honestly, when done properly, I've had belts that have lasted months.
