I’m down in Australia and just purchased my first car, a Subaru Forester. Your channel was the defining factor in my decision to go with a Subaru, and I LOVE watching each of your videos. Keep doing what you do!

Slip a key ring through the zipper, it will make it easier to zip. Fixed a jacket that way.

You inspired me to get an outback, after watching a few of your videos sometime ago. Got the wilderness and plan to go on many adventures. Thanks for the cool content! Me and my boy plan to have many adventures on the outback

I have the deluxe tent that attaches to that awning. It's amazing. Has an inside opening so you can access your vehicle. Opens up to a full screen room, or fully closes to an unvented tent. Pretty much 4-seasons.

I really liked your video. The content was precise and the radical candor was very clear. Tacoma beast had the CVT 79” marked down to $250 US, and I couldn’t pass it up. I have a 2018 Tacoma that I take through National Forests, and campsites. It’s a really good option and very similar in build. Hopefully this is helpful for anyone looking around the time of the comment.

Thx for the review, I built one using ABS piping. I like the support on the edges. I just use a regular 6x8 awning and it served me well for one season. Total cost less that $25.

Great insight Chase, always wonder what items you are using to rig out your Subaru. Personally after a lot of research I chose Cascadia Vehicle Tent (CVT). They have a number of locations nationally. What I like the most about them was the awning included an integrated LED light with dimmer. It’s awesome and easy to use.

I have the Yakima 6.5 x 6.5 on my 2015 Forester. It attaches to the Yakima rails so, height isn’t an issue. It’s great to have the shade here in AZ. Easy to setup.

I personally on my 15 outback bought a Yakima off grid roof rack and used the LP aventure brackets for the ARB series of awnings. I’m sure they’d work with others as well but it’s by far my favorite thing I’ve added to my car so far.
@lazynorse56073 жыл бұрын
I've been casually looking into awnings. Knowing how shade is thrown at a campsite, I'd tend to think 6.5' is a pretty narrow slice of shade to chase around. Intrigued by the Yakima SlimShady as it comes with a locking clamp mounting system that fits stock Subaru crossbars, comes on and off in seconds. They are $3-400 though. For sun and rain, I often take 10x10 pop up canopy. It weighs 35#, fits across the rear footwells in an Outback, is fairly quick to deploy, can leave it in camp, move it to chase optimum shade. I've thought about downsizing to an 8x8, even lighter but more coverage than a 6.5' car awning.. hmm. It, like any awning needs to come down with gusty winds, which I find happens more than not in the Pac NW unless in dense forest. Pros, cons, it is fun to geek out on this question.

Well I cannot seem to link to a site where I posted the details of my diy awning. In short I used a nylon tarp, adjustable tent poles and guy lines from Canadian Tire. I recycled old conduit and a metal broom handle to create a collapsible rod. The rod gets attached to the cross bars with oversized tie wraps when stationary. The tarp is attached to the metal rode with 3 locking pins from Princess Auto. All this is stored in a diy roof box made from an old gun case.

Hi Chase. Thanks so much for your great videos and info. I am curious what type of cargo box are you using along with the roof rack? I like that it sits on the side and you still have room for the roof rack and awning.

Nice… I’ve been thinking about one for my Outback. 6.6 to 7 feet looks like a good length for the car…. This might be a great option if not sure how much one might use one. You can always upgrade if you wanted. I’m thinking some kind of 8020 L bracket attacked to my Thule rails. That 1x3 or 1x4 stuff. Then figure a way to be able to raise and lower the attachment for headroom. Hmmm… Thanks

The static weight limit is within the smaller roof tents and 2 people. The weight limits posted for these cars is the dynamic limit of about 150.
