I'm allergic to dairy and soy and boy has eating become a major pain, The dairy allergy isn't so bad but soy is in everything! The most annoying part about soy is that "soybean oil" is claimed to not be an allergen but that's a complete and utter lie. The worst part of it is that thanks to lobbying soybean oil does not have to be listed since its not considered an allergen even though it is.

Soy didn't used to be in everything its in the last like 10 years things have been pumped full of soy (In the USA) In the UK only recently has lots of recipes been changed to include Soya Its odd.

Other sources of soy I have found are…natural flavors…mixed tocopherals…glycerides. These have soy derivatives and the FDA has determined that they don’t cause ENOUGH of a reaction in ENOUGH people to warrant putting a disclaimer that it contains soy. Sometimes the “natural flavor” isn’t from soy, but I no longer take that chance. I ate something once with that on the label and no warning of soy and within 10 minutes I had a rash around my mouth which was tingling and my whole face started to itch..it felt like it was on fire.

A soy allergy is genuinely so difficult! But I have been able to make amazing Asian dishes (dumplings, peanut noodles, spring rolls and a whole lot of other yummy foods!) coconut aminos is really a great replacement!

Be careful for whats called a "cross allergen" when your immune system is down anything in the soy family can make you feel poorly. You can make homemade ramen, which taste better, and the best "soy sauce" replacement is coconut aminos mixed with black fermented garlic. Ive been soy free since '09 so reachout if you need any help or just a support system.

Thanks so much. I’m in the same boat. I have a bad soy allergy. What do you do for skincare ? I have recently found out that a lot of beauty companies derive there ingredients from soy even if it doesn’t say soy on the Product list so things like glycerin, etc. come from soy derivatives do you know anything about this and have you found anything that you use that doesn’t contain anything?

😢 sorry girl I know it’s hard. Some people don’t understand the struggle and the seriousness of this allergy. I have those hard days a lot but I’ve learned to just limit myself. I cook in batches and just tell myself that it’s okay. I rather feel better internally and physically then worry about having the things I know prob taste great but will obviously not be worth it. I’m gradually converting as I didn’t believe soy was an equal allergy to gluten. But once I cut both out I felt so much better. Like within a month of cutting it out I knew it was the problem. Thanks for you video and educating us!

I wanted to say thank you for sharing your story with soy. You are absolutely right about there not being too much information about a soy allergy. I have recently found out that I am allergic to soy and gluten as well. It's a journey. I am definitely going to follow your videos, and maybe learn something from you. Again, thank you so much for sharing. You are awesome.

I have a soy allergy (9 /10) and have researched and found that soy lecithin does not have enough of the protein which can cause the allergic reaction, I consume soy lecithin with no problems however soy sauce causes severe reactions.

oh wow I'd love to read that. unfortunately for me whenever I consumed soy lecithin there was a noticeable reaction but I wonder if it's changed throughout the years 🤔

Yeah soy lecithin gives me a huge reaction. I believe its a emulcifier and perservative so its in everything. But soy lecithin certainly makes me sick from stuff like just one cupcake, or a few Tbs of sald dressing, or the chocolate in a starbucks mocha. You maybe just got lucky and are not sensitve to soy lecithin

Ive had a severe peanut allergy my whole life, so whenever Id think “food allergy” Id always impulsively think of a full body anaphylactic reaction, forgetting that u can be allergic to something with even just mild/moderate symptoms. Throughout my whole life Id get chest pains, gassiness, or burning sensations in my mouth from various foods and I would just shrug it off as indigestion, low spice tolerance, acidity, etc. I simply didn’t think about it because I thought it was normal (obviously because it was most certainly normal for me and I didn’t know any better). It wasn’t until these past 2 years or so, since ive had worse reactions and became more conscious of how my body feels, that I learned its due to various other legumes (peanuts oftentimes show cross reactivity with other legumes). Completely stopping it is going to be so hard since everything has soy in it. Every once in a while I’ll probably still have a chocolate I like or tbh will probably end up having it by mistake, but hopefully if that happens ill be fine… I mean I have been eating it and just been putting up with it my whole life right 😅. Im glad u brushed over understanding and accepting one’s allergies because I definitely needed to here that. Its been hard realizing that I have more dietary restrictions now and fully explaining my situation to the people around me has been difficult. Im still learning more about myself as I get older and will definitely get tested for all the commonly used legumes soon. Thank you for the video and if u could make one about foods soy is commonly in and what the best alternatives for products containing soy are that would be much appreciated 😅

I went to the allergist and he couldn’t find anything from the tests, yet I sat there with a swollen arm and all he could say was that I had hives, and that I could take injections, which by the way had side effects of cancer, parasites, something else. My dermatologist had diagnosed me with histamine intolerance. What was that? We I had to go on the same adventure as all of you have had to do. I cut out everything that has soy in, crossing my fingers I don’t miss something. Plus I can’t eat any form of chocolate, or derivative of it, I.e., cocoa powder, carob, etc, shrimp, eggplant, avocado. The last three are easy, but I bought a great brownie mix in vanilla, no chocolate. I told a tiny piece the next day to see how I would react, bam! My arm swelled up, felt like a bad sunburn for a week. I emailed the company and the soon received a reply saying I wouldn’t be able to eat their products, because their facility used cocoa powder…transference. There was none in the brownies, but it was the cocoa powder which probably transferred from a bowel or utensil. Some of these allergies can come under Mast Cell Activition. I’m lucky that live in an area where John’s Hopkins has several studies on this issue, however, it’s not easy to get into see a doctor.

Great video and advice! I have a bunch of tips to add here. Vegetable oil is usually soybean oil unless it is made from canola oil or another oil. So no fried foods ( unless fried in canola or another oil) or FAST FOOD restaurants! Raisin canes uses a combination of canola oil and soybean vegetable oil so I can tolerate only them for my fast food consumption. And no breading or bread unless if it’s gluten free bread it usually is also soy free. And no flour tortillas, they have soy. Corn tortillas are safe though. And mayonnaise ( I make my own with canola oil instead of vegetable oil) and salad dressing also have soy (I started using olive oil and salt and pepper on my salad instead). And a lot of saltines have soy but I found the store brand saltines are usually soy free. And cakes, cookies, and pastries also have soy ( I can make my own cakes but I use canola oil instead of vegetable oil) and I found that even fine chocolates have soy lecithin. I found some chocolate chips that are really good and I snack on them for my chocolate cravings. It’s called Enjoy Life chocolate chips or chocolate chunks. And I make my own chocolate chip cookies with it also but usually I just snack on them when I’m craving chocolate. Also if something is made with cocoa powder instead of chocolate, it’s safe. And coffee creamer also has soy. I started using milk or heavy whipping cream is a great coffee creamer. And peanut butter also has soy (I make my own and only use peanut oil in it) Check out my KZbin page, I have a really good recipe for peanut butter on it. But you are correct that EVERYTHING has soy! It’s so difficult to find products without it. I lost weight once I got the soy allergy because I am forced to eat cleaner. I always know when something has soy when I start getting itchy and have gastrointestinal symptoms (my body will tell me) If I start feeling sick and then look at the ingredients, I will find soy in some form. 😢 It makes me seem like a high maintenance diva because I can’t just eat what I want and almost everything has soy! It’s crazy

Been following GERD and low fodmap diets for the last 1 1/2 years and finally got an allergy test. Found out I am allergic to 11 foods and was prescribed an epi pen. Soy is only one of the allergies. My husband and I got a wake up call when we visited Walmart's salad dressing aisle a few weeks ago - we discovered 1 mayonnaise that didn't have soy oil in it and it was a paleo avocado mayonnaise. Guess what? I'm also allergic to avocados. Burning question: Will I be able to eat out again?
