One little observation, my business coach used to always tell me to be aware (beware) of the sting in the tail i.e. if you're delivering feedback, never give the negative feedback last. He always recommends getting that out as early as you can, and then build up from there.

Roam looks great, and the only reason I'm not using it is that it's paid. Who's in the same camp? Also, Appy Hour is such a creative name and something I'm really excited for!

@DettolObsessed4 жыл бұрын
Same. The only way I'm going to join is if I cancel one of my previous note apps. It's just not possible to keep endless amounts of subscriptions going like this for every single app you use. It's a money grabbing ploy for these companies and it's an ugly one for the consumer. I mean I don't mind paying for updates. An app is providing extra service so it makes sense to pay for more features or better stability; however, let's face it-- how often does an app developer updates EVERY SINGLE MONTH? Unless they intentionally add features like a dropper to keep leeching money, it makes no sense. The previous app developing plans made more sense. You pay for sizable updates when and if they come available. Not a monthly salary for developers. And frankly productivity influencers live off reviewing these apps for their own business plans. It becomes an addiction-- using a "productivity workflow" for the sake of productivity when using a pen and paper, if we're being VERY honest here, is just as effective.
@musicspinner4 жыл бұрын
@@DettolObsessed Not to mention, RR's pricing is absolutely absurd. The subscription pricing model is out of control in 2020.

Every time I learn about a new productivity tool I immediately want to use it. But I've realized using these apps becomes like "busy work" for me. They actually keep me from focusing on the *few* things that are truly important. Not to mention, I actually like that my brain forgets things that aren't that important or life-changing lol. So far, nothing has beaten using a plain old bullet journal for me.

If you’re looking for a good note-taking software and you can’t afford the costs of stuff like Roam Research, take a look at Joplin. It’s free and open-source, with applications for any device (android, ioS, mac, linux, windows), with synchronization between devices and end-to-end encryption, it respects your privacy and even has a web clipper so you can save stuff from your browser to your notes. Besides that, it supports external editors, uses markdown formatting language and also other tools like KaTeX notation for math and chemical equations, Mermaid syntax for diagrams. More than that, it has a lot of plugins that can be turned on or off and enables markdown features to improve your writing. Finally, it’s open-source, so functionalities can be added every time by yourself or anyone else.

I never saw your videos before. I came here because I am learning ROAM, and your video came up. I have to say, the quality of your video production knocks me out!! Really second to none. How did you learn such gorgeous lighting and scene transitions? I’m an “older guy” (retired 50-year software developer) contemplating starting a channel with my wife to teach old boomers like me the ways that ROAM could be useful to them and how to use it. I can handle the content, but I could use help with video production knowledge: what do I need? How do I use it? What are the typical techniques used? (I can learn a lot about that one simply by watching your videos.) any resources you could recommend? Many thanks!

I will say one thing - *RemNote* . It is MUCH MUCH better than anything (Notion, OneNote etc.). Just google it and see. It _combines_ all that Roam/Notion and Anki give u in one app. Discovered it a few days ago. It is amazing. And there are med students in the dev team so yeah... And it is free (ofc there is a pro version but there is nothing that limits the free version...)

You’ve dropped some very interesting hints about your personal state of mind. You live in your head a lot as do a lot of information junkies do. It doesn’t give you peace of mind at all. Is all this note taking helping you achieve happiness? What if thinking absolutely nothing, being calm, and emotionless could bring you some peace? Takes a lot of work to shut down your mind. The destructive ways of shutting off your mind work but I wouldn’t recommend or encourage that.

Roam is absolutely brilliant! I'm a student willing to pay for it because it organises my thoughts in a way I never could. It helps me with my writing because I've often thought about the topic before and can just find the 'page/link' for it in Roam if you use it to write your thoughts down. Amazing. I heard about this initially through Ali's podcast 'Not Overthinking' with his brother which I would also highly recommend. I wish they did livestreams though, or even an episode with a live audience once Covid settles down. I binged the whole thing when lockdown started.

Two things: First, I am the 667th comment, disaster averted, you're welcome. Second, this app is exactly what I've been looking for. I'm an Epic Ambulatory Manager and have 30+ hours of meetings per week. I try to organize everything in OneNote. It's a constant failure because even though my meetings are all 30 1-hour units of time with specific topics, in my own mind over the span of weeks and months, they feel like one big long stream of thought. The way Roam handles note taking with quick and smart linking to other ideas lets me pop in and out of my thought stream.
