Great video, love to see how organized you are. Great tips as well. When my husband was alive we constantly had people over and our friends knew that if they cam to pray with us they would never leave hungry. My husband primary role was to feed their souls and I feed their bellies. Blessings to you and your beautiful family 🙏🙏🙏🥰

I n these uncertain times I've found another plus to having extra food on hand, when a friend lost herhome early in the shut down I was able to ask her if she could take some surplus off my hands thus sparring everyones dignity. I am blessed to be able to do this whenever I see the need. Love these videos I learn so many new tips.

I’ve found that it is super easy when cooking a casserole, crock pot or instant pot meal to make several of them at the same time. There are four of us and when I make a lasagna I always cook it in at least two or three separate aluminum pans. I either cook them all at once or cook one for dinner and cover, label and freeze the other two. We also order monthly meat from Butchers Box so I often have numerous types/cuts of beef, chicken, fish, etc. What really helped me, because we have our inside freezer/refrigerator and our chest freezer in the garage, was maintaining a list attached to my refrigerator that notes what I have on hand. It’s labeled “Inside” and “Outside”, what the item is and the amount. I then use this to make my menu and shopping list. On the “I don’t want to cook” days I check the list and then send someone out to grab the Mac & Cheese casserole and pop it in the oven!

@@theMennoniteMom I've been trying to purchase items at Goodwill like used Pyrex pans for $3 then I fill them with food to give to people who I know that needs them... I write on the bottom of the pan for them to pass along to the next family as they see fit? Years ago one family who went to my former church, turned out that 2 kids were murdered as Mom had gone into the shower. Unbelievable! The hvac repair guy was a massive surprise! He wasn't scheduled to be there for a visit, while Mom was headed into the shower. The kids were watching cartoons. I had a surprise idea one day while I was in school taking paralegal studies, I asked the girl's brother to verify?? He never said yes or no. It's just something that I learned from my classes. It took some time to come thru the legal process for all of the mess to come out of the news. Idk until the end of the case?? Was almost 2 years until the Mom got off legal charges & the hvac guy was eventually sent to prison. Please find a way to keep these scary people out of the family's homes! Those kids were 7 & 9 years old when they passed away. 😳 Everyone always thought that I was such a scardy cat, but it's not funny how things come back to haunt us! I'm a member of Methodist Church now. My friends were Presbyterian Church members, and I tried to help them where I could to keep their daughter safe. I did take care of 6 nieces and nephews, along with my 3 boys. I tried my best to make sure to keep all of these kids safe! I was blessed to have seperate income from 1st husband who died in a car accident, so I had a lawsuit seperate income. I was busy taking care of raising the kids now I'm trying to write a book about the lawsuit. Thing is that I have health issues from contaminated drinking water at Lake Travis. I'm asking God to help me fight a brain tumor now. It's benign, but Idk if the tumor will be stopped? I just turned 54 years old. I'm trying to stop this brain tumor before it gets ugly. I'll ask for quick prayers if you can add to it? My 2nd husband filed for divorce in 2004, but he has apologized. He can't come back to me, and now we know that I did have the benign brain tumor but he has remarried. I'm still trying to make our lives better for everyone. I've been looking for husband #3 and our boys have finished HS.

My family heritage is Mennonite as well, and I definitely grew up with the big garden, canning, etc. It’s such a valuable thing, to have a pantry filled with food to share. Right now we live on a tiny city lot and I would love to have more space to garden.
@kristinatidwell6563

Does your city allow you to raise a few egg laying chickens, so you won't go without eggs? I wasn't raised as a Mennonite but I was raised in fostercare for 19 months when I was turning12, and I won 4H club in youth fair. We were in the country and we raised 12 egg laying hens, then we also raised 75 turkeys & 150 broilers and we put the meat in the freezer. My foster parents split half a cow & pig with neighbors next door. We also raised a half acre garden and we had lots of food we had plenty of food to eat. My parents tried to keep food coming in, faster than we could eat it!

Egg laying hens takes a few months to raise them so that you can use them as hens, at least for 10 months or so you can keep up with the chicken.

This was great! I was just mentioning to my husband that I should begin to stock up more, be prepared for, well, whatever we might find ourselves facing. The Lord has always taken care of us, through 54 years of marriage. But, preparation is something we can do, again, and perhaps have something to share with others as we go forward. Your wisdom in storing your food is worth so much to many. Thank you.

Thanks for the video, it’s always nice to see what other people do with food storage. I’ve been doing it about 20 years or so and something I would recommend would be to have some water in your basement storage like gallon jugs or 5 gallon jugs or outside your home somewhere in the shade like 55 gallon barrels or 275 gallon tank(s). The reason why I recommend it is because you never know if you have city water if they might turn it off for any reason or just to have in case an emergency happens. Another tip is if you keep your yeast in a mason jar in the freezer it will last forever and it won’t expire. Thanks for being a genuine person I love your videos because of who your are.

No, the jars won’t burst unless you put too much in them, just allow for expansion. Also, I keep my baking powder in the freezer and peanut butter in the refrigerator because it doesn’t have as long of a shelf life.

This gives me a kick (a very needed one) to handle my own freezers. We have an upright, a small deep freeze, and our "old" fridge/ freezer... and our mini storage in our basement. I know I'm going to get some grief, but use the dates as a guideline. People read over the fact of "best by" and think that somehow it just magically knows when to go bad. Of course there are things you want to watch, but we had frozen blackberries (home bagged) that were 7 years old and were kinda concerned so we very carefully tried them and the only reason we didn't use them in a recipe is because we hogged them down. In order to keep product moving you have to sell them. What is a better way to sell something than to get people thinking they need to replace something that's "outdated"? Your organization is great and those baskets are amazing! I tried the bag system and it was a no go for us, but I think that was because bags (like the reusable grocery sacks) are not exactly stationary (oh how many times did the fall over😑) and so we gave up on them. My question is do they hold up pretty good? Are they super brittle? I've had some food storage that called themselves freezer and they cracked when you looked at them...or so it seemed. Thank you for your sound words on Biblical preparation. So many times we look at our circumstances and jump to conclusions and, you nailed it, it hardly ever comes to pass. We Moms tend to definitely be overactive with our imaginations. Excellent video, Jeanine!

Nice to see how you have things setup. I have one chest freezer for one person, so 3 for 3 people sounds great! I can food but I try to rotate what I can each year. 6 month stocking in the freezer is the max for me. If it don't save me money stocking up , I don't stock that much. I am eating down the freezer big time getting ready to buy Belted Galloways grass feed beef(same omega 3 as fish) and some grass feed pork. That butter is a great deal it's from grass feed cows! I make a point to gift / give caned food. Prepping isn't needed if we get past the "it's all about me culture" and share with others! Sharing with others will come back 100 fold. Have a great weekend!

Looks awesome! I have my stockpile in the basement of an old farmhouse as well. I didn’t put my spaghetti down there in fear it would get moist but maybe it would be ok. I’m ready to get some apples at a local orchard who will be closing for the spring season so their apples are on sale. So I plan to get a couple bushels to make applesauce. I’m learning to watch for things that are on sale and stockpile on it (if it’s something you use) I had gotten a case of butter at Aldi too, and am almost out of it. Was hoping for another good sale soon. 😊

I still keep trying to be stocked up...but never quite make it to be like I used to. I do the best I can and rely on God for the rest, because, you're right: "take no thought for tomorrow"...and "if He takes care of the birds," how much more will be take care of you. You are definitely prepared! Love how you organized your deep freezers! Great idea to make the wood lips. Does your meat last over a year because of what you wrap it in? Is that shrink wrap extra thick? My meat looks kind of sorry by six months but we don't use any special wrap. We usually go through it well before 6 months though. Think once that butter is frozen, the expiration date is not relevant. Should last a year or two, I think, anyway. Am also thinking saltines or graham crackers or things like that might be needed if we can't make or get bread. We grew up eating brown bread from a can with franks and beans sometimes. I haven't had it in years, but bought some to have on hand. It really is delicious with baked beans. lol. Also trying to think about issues if we can't prepare things the usual way. If we have no electricity, do I have a way to prepare things? My favorite rice uses the microwave. Can I prepare it another way? Things like that. I have just started canning chicken and hamburger and definitely will do more of that. Our reserves pale in comparison to yours, but you are a young family and burning a lot of calories. Agree with your thinking about being prepared, but not worried. Also firmly believe our world issues are directly correlated to a loss of faith by so many and even a lack of gratitude or deep prayer or reparation by those who DO believe. God is calling us back in His usual way. He let the Israelites suffer and be overcome until they returned to Him on many occasions. This time however, nations have the power to destroy each other so it is even more important that hearts turn back to Him before real horrors occur. God bless to you and yours and all your subscribers!

Great video, filled with lots of helpful tips and suggestions. I would love to can and prep more, but it’s difficult for a single person household with very limited space , to do. One thing I was able to do, is buy a new, bigger upright freezer. My previous one was much smaller, and not frost free 😩. But it was almost 35 years old when it finally gave up the ghost, so no complaints about that. Definitely got my money’s worth. Going forward, at next butchering, my sister and my niece and I will be sharing a cow. If my brother in law gets another deer, we’re going to share that as well. He aims for at least 2 per year, one to eat, and one to process and donate to our local food bank. If he gets a third, we share. I also have a chicken farmer nearby, and once his hens are ready in the spring, I’ll be stocking up on chicken, so the new, bigger freezer is going to be a great blessing. And with meat getting scarcer especially. I’d love to can some pickled beets…they’re my most favorite vegetable of all, and of course use the pickling broth for hard boiled eggs.

I know that’s not everyone’s thing, but I agree as Christ’s followers, we must stay true to the Word of God in all we do. I love your references, because in Bible Study Fellowship a few weeks ago, we studied the 10 bridesmaids. Matthew taught about the return of Christ in that chapter but being prepared for His return means obeying His Word. I pray in this busy season of preparing for your new little one that you are able to rest. You’re a beautiful, hardworking Momma so make sure you are taking care of yourself along the way. ❤️

I used to live in Reamstown PA, and then Holtwood in Lancaster County, I loved and miss my time there I have had Mennonite, and Amish neighbors I learned so much from all the people I cross paths with...I did my weekly shopping on this farm or that farm! And 1 family would yell me go down yo so and so's farm they have this or that and then would go to the discount groceries which I miss that shopping, but able to get Azure Standard so I can get alot of good food ...we are at 3.999/10, here in Central Florida ..At end of 2019 I realized I wanted to start upping my pantry game I need to organize the freezers.. Have you heard of Homestead Tessie raised Mennonite, and she is in Manheim PA, she has so many videos. I'm glad I found your site..lol I'm one now and I want to can alot and replenish the freezer but, it's amazing how much food we go thru in a whole years time..yes we have pot lucks every month...do you have a canning video using the frozen tomatoes for the tomato juice...that's a good idea with the wood pieces..I like being stocked for 2 years at least ,not there yet but alot of work ,but so worth it...parsnips and parsimony,, they are having their 9th baby anytime now ,they are in upstate NY. she does trim healthy mama also..like your organization!!

Nice video. I use the bags I bring to the store to put in the freezer. I have a lot of bags LOL. This way they aren't hard, and you can work with them more than crates. The handles are easy to grab and pull out. II have a freezer for meats, and one for veggies and fruits etc. I also put raw eggs in those silicone muffin cups and freeze them one in each. Once frozen, I take them out of the cups and put them in a zip lock bag. I use them for baking after I thaw them. It works out so well. I also can a lot of food. The key to doing all this is NOT to put in your stockpile things you won't eat. Don't forget you can also freeze bananas for banana bread, so you don't have to throw old bananas out! Also use them in smoothies. Keep up the good work.

What is scraple? I'm on my own & I have a chest freezer, an upright freezer & the frig freezer so yes, it is nice to have extra. I have no vehicle to drive when I need groceries so I too like to have a bit extra - always nice to have foods you enjoy. I can only wish to have all that room for food ... great job!

Some think of preparation for emergency , and other food stocking is excessive. But, as we look to God, for His leading, we have the opportunity to bless others. We live in a small space, but we shop for sales. We use our freezer like you do. We also have creative storage for the backup items. We rotate by purchase dates. So we just do it all on a small scale. God bless you all. Good vlog.

I have tomatoes in my freezer that I need to can into tomato juice too. Most of my tomato juice then goes for either chili or making pizza sauce which I also can. I just cannot appreciate any other pizza sauce like my homemade sauce. I can eat that stuff right out of the jar! I have similar freezer organization for my upright freezer. It's the only one I have right now other than my refrigerator freezer. I'd like to get a chest freezer as well. My family also splits cows my dad raises as a hobby.

Janine. Love your videos. Like you I purchased corned beef and hate it but my mother in law showed me if you boil potatoes, cabbage and onions together then open a can and mix it together it’s good. So that’s how my family eats it.

I love your freezer organization. I really need to get containers and organize mine. I agree people really don't understand how much food we need because of eating out and being able to go shopping any time. Now more than ever though, people are starting to keep a stocked pantry. Who knows what God has in store for 2022. God bless you and your new baby.

Thank you for sharing your creative ideas. I’m looking into buying a freezer. For long term storage do you prefer chest freezers. I don’t know which to purchase an upright or chest type. I also appreciate your thoughtful reasons why you have invested into storage and prepping. The Lord will are for us. It would be great to have things available for hospitality. God bless you as you prepare for a new baby! ❤️👏🏻🙏🏻🙌🏻

Thanks for the freezer tours! It makes my heart happy to see families are stocked up and able to feed their families no matter what. And what a blessing to have a cattle farmer in the family!!! Thanks for the ideas and motivation. Someone gave me the idea to use strong canvas bags with handles to store different types of items in my deep freezers.. That allows me to easily access all of the layers, not waste any space and is easier on my back. I make laminated labels out of different colors of card stock and attach them to the handles for easy identification. I have found most of the bags at rummage sales.

Great inspiration & organization; thank you! When we got our yearly side of beef, they had the boxes labelled so I left them in the boxes & we kept the label upright, put the box & all into the chest freezer & cut just the end flap off the box. I really had to organize my 2 little freezers to get the veggies & frozen apple sauce (from own trees) into them. I’m trying to dehydrate & can some things to save on freezer space. We just installed our wood stove & bought firewood in case of winter storm power outages. Here in colder Alberta, Canada, we have to prepare for higher utility bills even though we have natural gas heating (that requires power to run the furnace). Many blessings to your family 🤗❤️🇨🇦
