As long as it doesn’t go bad before you use it up, it’s more cost effective to buy a gallon of milk, then decant at the halfway mark into a half-gallon mason jar (then into a quart jar etc) as you drink it up.

Greetings from south india, and I will be honest with you,when I say it's your pretty glass jars, that are my favourite as well, that actually made me watch your splendid video. As Indians, we're used to a lot of stainless steel,hardy, practical utensils, which we're comfortable with, except when it comes to opening hundreds of jars in the fridge as well as the pantry,to discover what's in them. This is a no-no for me, when I am in a hurry, so I switched to glass jars, and my life is beautiful 😅. Thanks for sharing your tips too!

This is nice because I have been doing this for a long, long time. I was raised with milk in glass, so I hate plastic except for Debbie Meyers containers or bags. I also hate bulky boxes, so I transfer everything, I put my cereal in a large glass container in a cabinet, and my milk is transferred to glass milk bottles as the milk lasts so much longer. For those who don't know boxes from the market can sometimes contain bugs.

Although a little more expenive, they are ultra pasturized and have an expiration date at least a month into the future. Also the 2% will froth in a frother, instead of needing to use whole milk.

I have a 2017 LG counter depth refrigerator. I don’t think counter depth is the “standard”, it’s for small townhomes, condo, etc. It doesn’t look as big as yours inside. I’m hoping you’ll do one on a smaller interior.
@TheCrossLegacy3 ай бұрын
We actually got a tape measure out after seeing this comment. When I talk about it being standard it is the standard size that we had in our home before, the house was built in 1980 and its 36" wide. Some people thing I have a really highend fridge and it's a 36" wide counter depth. Yes some apartments/condos have a smaller standard size that is 30" wide. Our home in total is only 1100sq feet total. I did do alot of research and own a housekeeping company for the last 16 years so I knew when I purchased a fridge that I didn't want the icemaker taking up shelf space and exactly what I was looking for in features, then it was 2020 when we were doing this kitchen remodel so by the time we saved for this fridge it took 9 months to actually get it. For 3 years we didn't even have a fridge in our kitchen that worked and a smaller fridge in the garage 2 flights down of stairs that I worked out of having 4 under 7 living here.

I love this storage style. Do you have tips on how to store all the glass containers in a small kitchen, this is where I’m getting stuck
@TheCrossLegacy3 ай бұрын
I have all the Pyrex containers in one drawer. The glass jars we also use for drinking glasses for the pints and pint and a half so over the years I got rid of the Tupperware containers and glasses as I started making the switch over. This is the same house we have been in for 20 yrs now so now that I have a bedroom empty I am able to store my canning supplies in there but that has only been the last 3 yrs we have had space to do so

Beautifully stored produce! Now I need to figure out how to accomplish this with a full sized refrigerator, with no drawers. A design flaw from manufacturing. Rarely does anything go to waste, the chickens get any produce that goes soft. Any suggestions for a full size refrigerator that has no drawers or freezer, to emulate a crisper drawer?
@TheCrossLegacy3 ай бұрын
That is interesting to have no crisper drawers. I would keep things in bowls so that they are apart. For example I keep my apples and pears on the top, while lemons and citrus as in the crisper drawer so I would keep those on the bottom. They are more sensitive to the ethylene that is released and cause them to spoil faster.

Hi, I wash almost everything before it gets put away, there are very few exceptions. Washing them correctly kills mold spores and other harmful pathogens, so it actually helps them last longer. In this video I share a lot of washing tips: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJ61pX5qeLuEaJI Also if you look at the fruit or vegetable playlists on my channel you'll find videos for most produce items. I also have a downloadable eBook with directions for 75 items. Let me know if you'd like that link! :)

Hmmmm, I used to can all the time, but since being empty nesters I no longer do very much. Needless to say, I have a huge inventory of empty canning jars. Going to start using them next time I clean the fridge. Interesting video!

This might be a stupid question… but once you use the mason jar what do you do with it? Wash and re use or repurpose or trash?

Does it work to have oranges, or something else w avocado? I have a lemon tree and normally just pick when needed vs storing them.
@TheCrossLegacy10 күн бұрын
You can use oranges, limes or other citrus with your avocados and it will have a similar effect.

I thought avocados were not supposed to go in fridge. Great video. I got some ideas! I usually buy milk in gallons but when they are half gone I can put into a smaller container. Often I wait until last quart and put in a quart jar.

They have been in cold storage unless you picked it from a tree yourself.

Can you use plastic lids on the canning jars instead? You are Amazing. 💕
@TheCrossLegacy2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Yes, you can. You can use whatever lids you'd like. Most of my jars have metal but plastic is fine for most items, I wouldn't use it on something like a cut avocado or apple because it's not totally airtight. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hi, I love what you did with your fridge. However, I'm a senior and I cannot go to the store as often as I want. I buy groceries once a month and everything I buy is compact in the fridge. Unfortunately, sometimes my fruits and vegetables go to waste because I don't get to use them all. I would love to preserve them but don't have the space to store them. Is it possible for you to make a video for seniors who cannot buy their groceries as often as we should? By the way, this is my first time watching your video. Love it!!!

I use a dehydrator and/or canner to save a lot of my produce. Also my freezer has loads of soup/stews. We are a family of four but it helps lower the grocery bill each month.

What do you recommend for a standard apartment sized fridge? I always buy a lot because I don't like to run out but if I'm expecting guests from out of town I don't have enough room for everything that I need to get.
@TheCrossLegacy18 күн бұрын
Limit the extra things in your fridge like multiple bottles of condiments, have a plan for leftovers so they don't get forgotten. We just posted a new video today on bulky containers that might also help.
