Back in 2013, I was working on a startup idea with a guy I went to college with. We needed some coding help, so I reached out to Kyle on a whim to see if he was interested (we went to the same high school and his dad was my banker at the time for context). I felt that this was a huge gift to have someone like this on the team to really help launch the project. Unfortunately, the other guys involved with the project had other plans, and ultimately ran it in to the ground. I felt massive guilt for the time and money that Kyle gracious provided as this project was sinking. I really stuck my neck out for these guys. It ate at me for years. Finally, I came to grips that I did everything in my power. Sometimes, as much as we want things to work out, it's just out of our hands...

Hey Justin, Thank you so much for speaking openly about mental health and your experience. This video has really come at the perfect timing for myself. As a founder of a company in an industry that has been significantly affected by covid 19, it has been a really tough year. I am constantly unsure on what to do to keep going or to close the business down and return investments, and I feel extremely guilty because of it and find myself in a pretty bad mental state. If you are reading this Justin and you have 5 minutes to spare, I would really appreciate the opportunity to get some advice. Don't worry if not at all, but please continue to make such videos speaking up such topics.

I wish more people would talk about the not so glamorous side of being a startup founder. Actually most of the time it's not pretty at all. It's just a lot of doubt, sacrifice and emotional swings. And hearing someone who is successful to actually say that out loud in no nonsense talk is very comforting and powerful. Thank you, Justin.

I went through a major depression in the past. I got my life back together, I got back into web development, I finally got a job. I really liked where I was working. A few weeks ago, I got laid off. I worked hard at trying to scramble to another job. No one is looking at me. A lot of the words you say in this video, I feel. I don’t drink, but if I did I imagine I would be as you described your situation. With me the anxiety is so bad I start to shut down. I want to physically hurt myself to distract from the internal pain. I don’t do it, I just want to. I start looking to study to be better so the next place I apply will love me and want me. Then I think…. They won’t see how hard I’m studying, they will only see what I haven’t done for work. I don’t have a degree, I do t do well with assessments, they won’t see what I know I can do. This is when the anxiety ramps up and I feel like I’ve already lost. I don’t want to loose my house, I don’t want to disappoint my wife. I’m scared and it’s self defeating at times. Thanks for the video. I know I can come back from this again, but at my age, I’m scared. I feel stupid and even more so with every rejection. I feel like I’m running out of time. I’m trying to change my mindset, but it’s hard while in this moment.

Justin, the chance of you reading this is slim, but just want you to know how your honesty relieved the loneliness I’ve felt for the last few years for running two high growth/high risk companies at the same time. I watched a bunch of your other videos and thought so horribly of myself thinking that a truly great entrepreneur like you wouldn’t feel lonely, weak, and struggle with the relentlessness of every day operations. This video in many ways saved me when I felt like I had completely ran empty. Really appreciate what you do. I sincerely thank you for making this video and allowing the rest of us feel like what we are going through is called being human.

You can see it in the persons eyes. Some people have eyes that feel "funny" and wrong but some have a genuine good feeling when you look at them. You have these second eyes that I have described, the way you talk with your eyes compell me to listen what you have to say. But the eyes are the first thing that attracted me to even start listening to you. Very cool and true video tho, I'm 19 and have learned this throughout my teen years. Some people live their life too fast without looking back and analyzing the acquired data. My disease taught me that everything has to have a balance. Not too much or too little of anything. Wish I learned some of these things sooner becuase it would of saved some pleasant ex relationships.
