Stephen, Reduce negative thoughts. Its quite simple. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, hands on lap with palms upwards, eyes closed, be still and observe your natural incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 10-15 minutes or more. Let thoughts come. Slowly negative thoughts will reduce and relax the mind. Whenever you are free during the day or night before sleep sit or lie down still for a few minutes and observe your breath. Being still reduces negative thoughts. Feel the stillness flow within you. Make it a daily habit. Do the above meditation daily to have a good life. Best wishes and prayers. Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

Marissa Etchison If your current situation is loving, caring, safe, fulfilling, and depression persists then it may be necessary to explore further back (perhaps with a clinical psychologist) into your pre-birth history and early childhood years and into late adolescent years and understand your life script which formed your adult personality. It may provide identification of unresolved pain or trauma encountered during formative years, impacting current mental/emotional state. Or loss of a loved one may be a reason, which bereavement therapy is effective to resolve the depression. Or your life may lack deep-seated spiritual meaning in terms of having purpose and meaning to your earthly life, and engaging with the needy and offering some service to groups within the community may be the answer. For last mentioned consultation with a spiritual director or life couch may be beneficial. Best to you.

I've been trying to explain this for years. Depression & anxiety is a normal part of living in a society that no longer has close communities, we work long hours in jobs that often don't feel meaningful, we are not close to nature all day because our jobs are generally indoors, jobs these days are also not stable which contributes to anxiety, most people have very few close friends, people seem to value being "busy" over spending time with friends, and then there's this whole materialistic culture, that makes people feel like losers if they don't have a fancy car/job/house etc. Yet every doctor has just always tried to give me pills, which have bad side effects and actually made me feel worse.

Doctors give pills as it's the only real measurable they can help in their professional capacity, not because they're lazy. Thank you for this. I've been dealing with Anxiety attacks since 6th grade. I was bullied. They broke my nose, ripped apart my clothes. After my first few panic attacks, I started to stay home more and more. Which later turned into agoraphobia. Going to a simple shopping made me sooo nervous, I thought my blood pressure was 200 and I'm going to have a stroke. Seeing all my friends travelling made me even more sad. Beause yes, I was happy being alone home, it felt like my safe spot, later this came back as feeling depressed even at home. Especially more recently. Now, I'm turning 23 and started feeling REALLY lonely. I've started crying for no reason. I felt I'm alone on this world. No one undestrands me. No matter how introvert I am, now I started feeling the desire to go places, meet people. Forget about my problems. And yes, they also prescribed me SEROXAT when I went into middle school, but that changed NOTHING. My father was the main person I did things with. We went to random places. Worked together. And he really started curing my Anxiety. After his passing in 2018, I relapsed and went back to have agoraphobia. I rarely left my room. But just a few days ago this overwhelming feeling of lonelyness started to hit me. Crying for no reason. So now I booked a visit to a clinic. But what you've said here is sooooo true. Now I undestand (hopefully) what my body wants, and I'll look more at this "feeling depressed" thing more as a sign, rather than me thinking I'm just going crazy. I'll try going out more and more. Maybe making the big leap to travel again to other countries. Sorry for the long comment, but had to let this off of my chest. Thank you. I'll update my comment when I feel more and more better. I pray to God I will.

Best of luck to you. Really sorry about your father. I hope things end up turning around. I would recommend a public gym as a first step in reintroducing yourself to public settings. Physical movement kills anxiety like nothing else and there are often staff that will help guide you. Joining a class can also help, although I would recommend something that has less risk of being self conscience. You would be surprised how happy and welcoming people can get when they see someone new at their facility.

So, as I've promised; an update after visiting my doc: The first problem was that I suddenly stopped taking Seroxat, which as a side effect made me feel like crap 90% more. So as I started taking it I feel better, but I do feel that weird feeling in my chest. The second thing he now prescribed me are long walks. Walking and exercise makes these feeling pass by a bit faster. Not only that, but I started being around my family a bit more than usual, which also helps to forget a bit more. I hope my next comment update will be when I feel completely me again.

Bro, I'm sorry about everything that has happened to you. If you are physically able, and you want to feel better, do a few things for yourself: 1. believe the past doesn't determine your future 2. start hitting the weights and start building the strongest, healthiest physique you can. the BODY will fuel your MIND. 3. eat well and get your rest. so you can LIFT more weights. i don't care what any doctors says or anyone says: if you are able to lift weights, get to work building your body up. it will do more for you than any therapy, prescription, book, etc. good luck. the more you lift, the better you will feel

@@denisdenak The unmet needs that the speaker is talking about are the inborn basic social needs that a person requires for survival. For example, orphan infants that are not held and hugged will just die, even if they are well fed, clothed and housed. We all have basic needs for loving human interaction that are consciously destroyed by the school system, corporate employment, and suburban isolation. THIS social isolation that is absolutely unprecedented in the history of mankind, is what the author is talking about. Perhaps you are lucky to be born into a loving family, caring community, and wealthy inheritance. THAT is NOT the life that most Americans live, and it is doubtful that your own character had much to do with your own good luck in America.

@denisdenak5 жыл бұрын
@@atwaterpub I understand the quote and I don't necessarily disagree with it. I'm just saying that those needs can be met in almost any society regardless of where you are coming from. The alienated society is absolutely detrimental to a person's mental health, but not the main reason behind depression in my opinion. Risk factor - absolutely, cause - uh, I'd doubt it. IMHO, the main issue is the high standard of living in the West. Living in those conditions puts child's "basic needs" too high and when that child does meet with reality - his expectations are not just unmet, they are utterly destroyed by the cruel reality. About me - if you have not guessed by now, English is not my first language and thank God I wasn't born in the US or Europe, nor was I raised in a wealthy family.

I can’t imagine how Covid19 lockdown has affected people, in terms of anxiety and loneliness.
@namehere49543 жыл бұрын
Covid was an awakening. People were forced to accept that which they can not change. When you accept what IS, you do not suffer. When you fight what IS, you suffer. People were forced into their inner worlds and face them. Perspective of the external world is merely a reflection of the internal world. We apply our thoughts and emotions to events to label them but events are facts and that's why two people can go through the exact same event and come out with completely different perspectives. Covid was not good or bad, it was an event and either you grew or suffered.

I can tell you how it has affected kids. I am a camp guide in a summer camp, and we make activities and games for them, each series of kids staying for a week. What we observed this summer is that they are extremely starved for attention and touch. I mean, we take care of these through talking, playing and high fives. The real issues are with the inter-person relationships. Some are extremely introverted and stuck into their phones or playing with their toys, especially the younger ones. Overall, we have noticed that they are extremely aggressive and unkind, becoming outright feral. Us, the adults, have already adapted to the situation, but to kids it seems to have been catastrophic. They fight much more than in the previous years, they bully each other more, and they are harder to work with. I do hope lockdowns do not get enforced anymore. These poor kids deserve more.

Home doesn’t feel like home anymore. It feels like a prison. That’s not me trying to be edgy I’m really serious when I say that schools have forgotten that children and teens can’t just sit in front of a screen for 6 or 7 hours, and then do possibly another few hours of homework, and I’d just like to say that if you need to assign students an overview of the lesson for them to do at home, did you really teach the lesson well?

I lost my six week old daughter to SIDS. Every day after getting my four children out the door I would fall to my knees and cry where I would stay all day long. Four months later I ordered myself 100 baby chickens which I knew would make me get off of my knees because I would have to take care of them. I still grieved my daughter but I was able to get my life back

Keep trying. If this EXACT MOMENT isn't the one where you die then you might as well KEEP SWIMMING until you feel differently. Take care of anything that's been gnawing at you while you're at it. As simple as washing the dishes or as hard as that phone call. Not the angry one. The other one. The one where everyone is a flawed human in need of love and understanding. As awkward as that might be. Either way, you might feel better after. Anyways...I've got a few unreported scars in vital places and a 5150 under my belt. I ask the question of if I'll make it to tomorrow almost every day...but I'm still here a long time after I thought I wouldn't be. Hopefully you will be too.

That was excellent! I’m in tears and finally feel validated. I don’t need a bunch of antidepressants I need what I have been asking for all my life and that’s to BELONG TO SOMEONE! Belong somewhere, be a part of something. And to be LOVED UNCONDITIONALLY. And not be abused. The first time I was involved in something I created with a group of people is the ONLY time in my life I felt I belonged somewhere and a part of someone. This was so good and validating I am going to share with my therapist and ask if we can watch it in group. I’d love to hear the feed back from everyone. I’m that group I’m just opening up and wonder if others are feeling what he just talked about. My daughter who has a BA I’m psychology and an MA in Social work just sent me a long list of why and how I need to change my thinking bc I’m acting like a victim. When all I did was express my feelings about things that happened to me and my other children in the past. Then I got scripture thrown at me which was taken out of context. I am a Christian so I know scripture well and I’ll go read and study whatever someone gives me. What she sent me doesn’t pertain to depression and anxiety. But she’s still young and will figure it out. This was really my life saver tonight bc I felt so defective and now I’m leaving here with a direction to go. I have social anxiety and panic attacks that’s what keeps me isolated. It’s so hard for me to initiate a conversation or friendship but I can give my time to someone in service like I did last time and I come back out of my shell. Thank you for the talk.

I hope your daughter did figure it out because that sort of stuff is why so many people in rural areas hesitate to go to a mental health professional. I went to a counseling center and one of the questions the counselor asked me was, "Are you a Christian?" I told her no and she stared at me for 10 seconds and then said, "You have a little anxiety, but I think it's medical not psychological. So you need to go back to your doctor and have them test you for everything." Basically, it was her way of saying she didn't want to help me because I wasn't Christian. I had gone to multiple medical doctors before that meeting and since. They've all said the same thing: anxiety. The other mental health practitioners here messed up my mom, so I definitely don't want to see them. Basically, I need to earn enough money to move to a larger city in order to get the chance at getting decent mental health care.

Real success is truly doing something you are present in and not always jumping to the past or future trying to be something more then just an experiencer of things that fascinate you. people will pick up on that fast and become interested in you. Deuteronomy 22:28-29 28 “If a man meets a virgin who is not betrothed, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are found, 29 then the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has violated her. He may not divorce her all his days." Is the bible encouraging rape? No. Rape was a common practice back then where a guy would rape a woman take her virginity and leave her for dead or in the gutter so to speak so God is saying now you must marry her and pay the bride price to the parents (much better than what happens now to women when they get raped).

@@thebodykeepsthescore2828 One of the biggest mistakes people make is to blame all the evil in the world as God’s fault. Make no mistake, the dEVIL caused it. But your sins gives the devil a license to cause mayhem in your life. God never created a world full of hate, murder, children being aborted, cancer etc We live in a fallen world the more you sin the more corruption there will be. If Everyone were holy, then the world would be a much better place because God would be present.

@@umamii936 Heal yourself from negative thoughts. Whenever you are free in the day or night sit still for 2 to 5 minutes and observe your breath. Being still reduces negative thoughts. Make it a habit. Do the above meditation daily to have a better life. Best wishes and prayers. Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

For everyone who searched for an explanation for their depression or anxiety, we’ll get there. I’ve searched for it while crying in my bed at 3am in the morning but I know I will recover and so will you! We will find our happiness soon enough ❤️ update: I posted this 6 months ago and I can say I am finally happy again. I forgot I posted this comment and now I see all the kind words. So for anyone still dealing with this, I am the living proof it gets better :)

Look into Ayahuasca (eye-yuh-waw-skuh) and San Pedro in Peru. The shamans saved my life. Ketamine I think is now legal in the U.S.

@@barneygoogle3277 I second that. First pysc I had was acid and the months after that experience were the most growth and learning I’ve ever done. Completely changed me as a person. Some bad, and some good. As you know though, the bad is usually the good in disguise. Just takes time to filter out the dirty water in the tap.

Helping others is a great way to not only feel better about yourself, but also gives you a break from yourself, and that's another lesson. Criticizing yourself on whatever so you will do it better next time is one thing, but too many of us ride ourselves in a way that hinders us more than it helps. I stopped constantly critiquing myself about a year ago, and doing that lifted a weight and now I have a mind that's more clear to handle everyday tasks much better.

7:45 "This is what every depressed person needs, and it's what every depressed person deserves." This line straight up gave me goosebumps and made me tear up. As someone who struggled with mental illness but always got brutally blamed and dismissed just for feeling the way I did, I never in my life felt this understood and exposed by a talk. What an incredible and heartfelt message.❤️

I really felt what you said, as I am also someone who’s been brutally blamed and dismissed for feeling the way I did. I experienced the worst betrayal of my life when my husband left me for another woman who convinced him that he “deserved better” than a depressed wife. I absolutely despise the way mental health is viewed in today’s society. It’s despicable and stands fundamentally against the tribe mentality we should be embracing. One would think that as more and more people are finding themselves depressed, depression itself would lose its stigma; but unfortunately depression is still perceived so negatively that few are brave enough to come forward and admit to experiencing these feelings. Our world is in desperate need of a drastic shift before it becomes too late and we all lose hope for good.
