“If I don’t need it, do not buy it”. I have to repeat that in the mind whenever I feel the urge to spend money.

I can't argue with my self. I will always find a very good reason why I actually really need it. Best method I found so far is not to go to the mall.

I realized I may be a shopping addict, when I started dreaming about shopping and I woke up feeling happy and euphoric.

I could stop buying clothes and books for 3 years and not be even close to running out. I do a spreadsheet for my spending now. And slowly I have cut down my shopping so much. It's crazy how much I justified spending bc it was little purchases but it adds up. I saved up much more. And I like seeing my bankaccount do better. I started to use up my skin products and parfume. But I noticed with clothes and bags, while I use more of my clothes now when things get worn out I still have my favorites and don't wear everything. Also I stopped online shopping completely.

I'm struggling with a shopping addiction right now. But I'm realising shopping isn't fixing me. The temporary high isn't helping my anxiety and depression. It's not making me less bored or lonely. Because it's fleeting and then the item becomes just another item I need to find space for. I have enough and I'm grateful for what I have. That's what I'm telling myself.

Decluttering was the best thing for me to realize my shopping habits and now I’m more aware of what I bring in and really appreciate what I have. Great video!

Shopping addictions are real! I developed one during the pandemic & breaking it has been tough. Unsubscribing from marketing emails has really helped & I've decluttered my closet multiple times. I used to do hauls on my channel & even stopped those because it was hurting my finances and adding more to my already small apartment. Things are getting better but the self-discipline is a tough piece to work on as I'm not getting those dopamine hits from shopping like before. I created a checking account that's just for the "fun" things that I'll contribute to & if the money isn't there for what I want, then I can't have it.

I was thinking about the clothes I used to 💕 love. I had this one pair of suede combat boots, my best Levi’s and some cute sweaters. I had a suede jacket and a white denim anorak. I loved these clothes and wore them a lot. Now I can’t wear the same thing twice in a month! I woke up one day and opened a Poshmark closet and started selling three closets full (!) of clothes, shoes, and bags. I’m still working on it.

Relatable, especially with the shopping as a way to boost one’s mood, my latest struggle is online shopping. Just took off my virtual credit card so I don’t just buy impulsively online.

Great video, a lot of us really can benefit from this insight. Something we should all take note of is the way advertisers very often help us create excuses for mindless impulse purchases, while using timers, countdowns, and other fake scarcity tactics to convince us not to wait until we think better of it. They'll say "treat yourself, you deserve it!" and tell you that buying their product is all in the name of "self-care"...even if you weren't even considering buying it until you saw the enticing ad. Also, the bizarre mix I often see of the "self-care" angle along with a message that you need their product to fix your very normal "flaws". Understanding these marketing strategies and breaking free of them will go a long way to helping to be more mindful of your habits and take responsibility, it's very empowering.

It's hard breaking that shopping habit,, I shop out of boredom, depression. My weakness is house Decor. Then the pandemic showed up, all I hear was stock up n I did, it's everywhere still. My house is a clutter mess n now have to deal with that. Now TEMU has become an addiction. Finally decided enough is enough, just started taking an area n start decluttering n that's not easy. Slowly learning stuff doesn't make you feel better, it can make you more stressed when it clutters up your house n cause chaos in your mind. Just started a savings account. Need lots of prayers n luck to make it through this.

This is such a hard journey. I really got into a place where I had bought so much that I really didn’t need to buy anything and would rarely outfit repeat too frequently shopping in my own closet. I just moved from living in a warm climate for 7 years to a very cold climate and now the urge to shop for warm clothes is so strong but it’s hard to differentiate between want and need.

Just bought an impulse purchase in the supermarket and im ao annoyed at myself. It was so last minute. I hate the item on now ive got it home. I have to return it now this week which is another waste of time and effort. I find myself unable to learn the difference between need and want

Hugs 💜 A good rule of thumb is if you have to ask if you need it, you don’t. Most of us really have everything we need and more. A true need will be clear before you even enter a shop. It will be “urgent” vs something that can wait💜

Great video! I definitely shop too much, and I think it’s to fill a void. Seeing you shop in the video was interesting because it looked so dull- shops have these ugly bright lights, they’re filled to the brim with things, fashions come and go so fast.. but if you put me in a mall, I get so happy 🙈
