A lot of people have asked, "Ryan, how do you fit all that in your car!?" And to be completely honest, it wasn't easy...at first. But after playing many rounds of Tetris with my gear, I found a place for everything, well except for my ORU Kayaks. Once again, I'm in LOVE with your whole set up and seeing how you camp with a toddler! My husband and I are trying to find our packing routine for camping as well and I'm really impressed with how you packed everything inside the corolla! I used to have a corolla myself and my was it a challenge. THANK YOU SO MUCH for putting into detail what you put into each container in the description!! :D

Wow! That's a lot of equipment you were able to fit into your car! Great that you lashed down the items in the backseat for safety. I have a Corolla too and I chose my Springbar Compact Tent based partly on the room I have in my car. Though I'd like a taller tent, as a female who mainly camps solo I want a setup that's manageable for me, thus the smaller size. I also have a Teton Adventurer Cot, and other smaller accessory equipment. But I don't want to exhaust myself loading and unloading my car and the Compact is 20 lbs vs a Vagabond at 50 lbs, so I think I'll be happy with my selection.

I have to do an updated packing video soon, things have changed quite a bit with the addition of a roof box. The SB compact is going to be nice and like you said much more manageable then a larger model.

My cross country road trip to yellowstone truly made me interested in camping but I just don't know how to. During my road trip I stopped by so many national parks that I could have camped at (sad face). Can you make a vlog on whats a typical camping day and how you use the gear?

That sounds like an amazing trip! As long as you keep your camping gear minimal/purposeful and organized it’s pretty easy to set everything up! I’ll try to get something up here showing how I use everything in more detail. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for your helpful videos! Maybe a foolish question: what do you do with all this stuff when you're away from camp during the day, on hikes/swims/etc? This is heavy gear, so I'm (naively) guessing you're not carrying it far from parking lots in national parks? Have you had concerns or issues around theft or vandalism?
@rtmadani
@rtmadani 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks a lot! Totally valid question, especially as theft is unfortunately an increasing issue all over the place. When we're camping at national parks, we always try to pick campgrounds with hikes and waterfalls fairly close to where we're set up. In some case, we can even see our set up from the distance. However, when we go on hikes, usually shorter ones for an hour or so, there's definitely always a chance of theft. We always leave all of our lights around camp and inside the tent on with a couple pairs of shoes out staging someone may be in the tent, but honestly it's always a gamble. We try to save longer activities (such as spending hours on the beach) for either before we set up or on the last day after packing up. An easy way to do this is reserving a campsite by paying for it and placing a tablecloth down with some other items less valuable to claim your site. This way you can enjoy your time doing these activities and not have to worry about loosing a good campsite or worse getting your stuff stolen. I think there's always a chance of theft whether at campgrounds or dispersed. At least at campgrounds there are usually other campers around to help out if someone's trying to cause trouble. Dispersed you have to just hope that no one will mess with you. Another thing to keep in mind, a lot of people who go camping usually have weapons like axes, knives and sometimes even guns. So it's always a risky situation in the mind of a thief when approaching people camping. I recommend always keeping your car keys close by as you can always press the panic alarm button to deter any unwanted visitors and alert for help. I know this probably goes without saying but when your in a dangerous situation where someone is threatening to cause harm to you, always use your best judgment to protect yourself and family, not your stuff. Fortunately, we haven't had any issues yet, but it's definitely always a concern. Thanks for bringing this up because a lot of people probably have the same concern, so it's definitely an important thing to be aware of while out there!

@@rtmadani I have all the same concerns. If I'm car camping and go on long day hikes, I literally break down my expensive stuff, put it in the trunk and set it back up when I return. That's still not a guarantee that my stuff is secure, they can just as easily break into the car, but it's at least a little deterrent.

What type of container you use to transport water. I used couple from Amazon but they leaked. I’m using the sea to summit xl water works but doesn’t give me enough of it.
@rtmadani
@rtmadani 2 жыл бұрын
We've been using the Scepter 2.5 gallon water containers. They don't leak, but the water has a strong plastic taste after sitting in there for a day, so I don't recommend them for drinking water. I've been looking at some options to get also and I'm thinking the Stanley Adventure Fast Flow 2 gallon is probably good. I also bring an extra 1 gallon arrowhead water jug and my 1 Gallon Yeti Rambler jug.

Be careful when bringing firewood with you when not camping near the wood source. You might be bringing disease and pests that may damage the ecosystem
@rtmadani
@rtmadani Жыл бұрын
Excellent point to bring up! I always purchase local firewood harvested in Oregon/Washington forests, I’m not sure if that covers what your referring to though. I’ve had some bad experiences when purchasing wood within a close proximity, as the wood is usually the worst kinds. Maybe I’ll have to start gathering my own while I’m out there.
