Wow, this technique oil on top of acrylics ist great. Your results are stunning. I got your brushes in the meantime and I like to paint with them very much. May I ask which oil colors do you use, traditional ones, water-mixables or alkyd ones,

What do you do to prevent the sketch from being washed off your surface? Is it a specific type of pencil or do you put something overtop to prevent it from coming off? I end up with smudges everywhere or my lines being eliminated completely.

A bit Fast in explaining if acrylic paint in too think , and use of oil over may crack in 2 years.. NOT knowing How much of acrylic is too thick? Is is ok to maybe carefully sand a bit of areas to thin down the acrylic. ? Do you use any clear coat spray before using oil as an over coat? My budget it frugal,, neve could afford to pay for all the hidden costs to enter, and matt and frame my work , or even make copies. I know how to paint. Even Robert Batman before I knew who he was, caught me doing some geese in a park that he later bought and donated to TORONTO. Owen Gramme taught me much what I know. Being female, life went into a different direction. NOW TIME I want to paint all the 344 birds that visit the state i live in. Bird WING FEATHREs on some hard to get the fine detail on 11X14 canvas. Only board size I have plenty of. How do you get the very thing LINES At moment working on the Painted Bunting, an accidental bird to were I live, but bad weather pushes them elsewhere.

I was many times in the fabric of the brand Royal Talens. I learned to take a cloth with some turpentine and push it a little at your acrylic to open it up. Let it dry, After that you can use the oilpaint. It has now a grip in the acrylic because you opens it. (Think about a plastic cup and turp in it, it’s going to shrink) hope this helping you. -Always not a thick layer of acrylic paint. Use acrylic with water mixed. (The layers are staying flat)Also acrylic is plastic and flexible so doesn’t crack very fast. Even if you use a thick layer. You put a layer of retouche varnish over the oil. It’s an open varnish (The brand says, after 3 months) after six months, when it isn’t a very thick layer oil, you can do a slot varnish. Also the varnish for acrylic because that is also a slot varnish.

@@Dita66 Thankyou for responding. I am maybe overly frugal, Use flat Rebbermaid plastic with a sheet of Parchment that I we. My flat boards are cheep. but I do use Rust-oleum Flat white, sand in between, use acrylic over it. I also spray the back. People were having problems of their acrylic board, the PAINT CHIPING BEFORE any complaint of use of OIL paint added.. Heard the Gesso had changed their formula, I WILL try your idea to use some turpentine and rub (assume genitally ) The painted Bunting the back male a lot of detail more than I expected but I don't want him not looking illustrated,, nor the female. problem the same goes for the background leaves and the Raspberries on the branches. which are taking longer than the Bunting Pair. Was planning to complete 2 paintings a week, 344 birds plus accidental not easy , Have only 50 done.I try to get in Trillium., fire pinks, lady slippers, and many other wild plants. some insects. or the little peepers, Wild animals not too many, in WISCONSIN. LOVE RED DEER but they are used as LIVESTOCK to be eaten. Sorry., LOVED YOUR PAINTING , and rather see FREE.

A good way to tell if the acrylic is too thick is to feel your brushstrokes after they've dried. Do you feel the texture of the strokes? Then it's too thick. And if there is any give to the dried paint when you press it with your fingernail, then it's WAY too thick.
@tusk2425 ай бұрын
@@ConchitasCanvas On my 11x14 canvas, yes I can feel some bumps where I would do more detail in berries an insect, bump detail along the back of a toad, I have seen some who have almost like oil paint globs. My art is very limited., and yes ,if a leaf over laps ,and I can see in the light the under direction of another leaf I will sand that Grass weed down, Acrylic is plastic. and if my canvas was larger, perhaps then I could feel some movement. I think I am safe. However time will tell. Thinking of adding Egg yolk for the Egg Tempera look. more Flat with direction of light and shadow Not sure If I could use Oil over that, for special highlights. or may be a bit too much . May be just keep it simple, like in Wyeth's Paintings

Projectors are used by many artists for a variety of reasons. They go all the way back to the Camera Obscura.
@jondoh5875 ай бұрын
I'm glad no one expects me to weave my own cotton for the canvas, nor buy dry pigment base to mix my own paints. But I'm not sure why anyone would expect me to draw my subject from scratch more than once -- first in my sketchbook and then all over again on the canvas at a larger scale. The projector just makes the workflow more efficient. It's way faster than using the grid method for redrawing and scaling up.
