Beginner here✋🏻 question: 5:16 can I use vallejo gc ink 'skin wash' instead of agrax earthshade here? What's your opinion on vallejo inks in general?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio2 жыл бұрын
Most skin washes have a much more red tone to them than a brown/black wash like Agrax Earthshade. So... in short, yes, you could use whatever you liked in place of Agrax here, but you'll get a noticeably different result. I've used a few of the Vallejo Inks and they're alright for the most part; if they're what you can get then a brown or black shade from Vallejo might work better than the skin tone.

It really looks good. The colors are easy to find and make a very realistic miniature.

Looks great! I'd done the webbing a bit different though. Maybe German camo beige and then use some sepia wash on them, then highlight with 50/50 G.camo beige and light sand. For the tunic i just use straight Khaki.

What tufts did you use? Basing looks awesome! If you can find it.. Gunmetal from testors acrylic is the best for gunmetal it's like an oily light gloss silvery grey black looks perfect for ww2 figures

This is perfect. Have just started modeling again. Great advice and really good step by step. Could you include the names and numbers of the colors you use in the description below? I have no experience of vallejo and sometimes the sound isn’t good so no matter have many times I replay or the volume I cannot hear what you say.

So when the top tunic became as bleached just paint it the same color as the pants? Also maybe you could do a DAK video with some of the Italien pants or captured English uniforms? I've been watching numerous videos to figure out which way I've wanted to paint my DAK, I like yours 👍

In the case of even lighter tunics, I would personally still use a green colour, just to differentiate between jacket and trousers. Vallejo's Yellow Green would work well in that case, or you could mix in a little Dark Sand into the Russian Uniform for his jacket which will give a lighter, more 'bleached' kind of green. If you can find a supplier that does figures with rolled sleeves and open shirts, they usually look good with just the dry beige look.

It's a good thing to bear in mind, particularly with historical miniatures. If you're worried about colours being 'perfect,' then go a little lighter in bright settings and darker in wet, dirty conditions. Helps to have them look right even if your colour choice might not be a perfect match!

How did you do the basing on the Kiwi rifleman?
@simonfaircliff74294 жыл бұрын
Hi - do you by any chance have a list of the paints used for this model available at all? Also, I was wondering if I could pick your brains on basing - how do you disguise the height difference between the base and the model when the models come with the pre-moulded bases?
@wartornminiatures25334 жыл бұрын
Once you glue your figure onto its base, you can fill around the figure using a lightweight spackle (Patch n Paint is a brand in North America). Apply this lightweight spackle with a wooden or metal tool and apply it until it matches/covers up the figure's metal base then level out the spackle. After the spackle is applied to your liking, you may add small rocks or debris but set these in before the spackle dries (obviously).

What shade ink do you use? I don't think you mentioned (or I missed it) it and I can't see it from the bottle.

I use Agrax Earthshade in this case, but I don't think I actually mentioned it except once! My mistake. You could also use Army Painter Strong Tone for a fairly similar finish.
