I really like this departure from the world of Warhammer and seeing you use some different tools. Nice change of pace, I started painting some non 40K stuff too in my spare time while I work on my first Blood Angels unit, these WWII and fantasy figures make me want to give those a try too.

Thanks bud! I've learned a bunch of stuff from historical gaming groups that have worked really well on my Warhammer stuff, and vice versa; it's all just tools past a point! It's good to practice with a variety of different manufacturers, I find, since you might bump into something you didn't know you liked. :D

The Quickshade medium is some amazing stuff. Especially if you want to only build up some very fine contrast over a 2-3 washes with something like 1-2 drops wash to 3 drops Quickshade.

Great looking figure! The color scheme looks really nice. I have to admit the Army Painter paints look quite good. Thanks for sharing this.

There are one or two colours that are still a little thin compared to their Citadel equivalents - Averland Sunset would have given me an easier yellow base in this example - but given that they're not marketed as a range of separate Layer, Base and Edge paints, that's one I can shrug off. The colours are really rich, which makes them really bold from across the table.

It can be a little daunting to approach - there is a LOT to take in at first - but you don't need to master everything on your first miniature! I'd suggest checking out this older video of mine if you haven't painted anything before, I think it gives a pretty good primer on trying your hand at this for the first time: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5ibiXR-oNV5nq8

To be honest when I first saw the model I wasn't to keen on it, but once you have painted it, it looks great, I particularly like and much prefer how you have done the tone wash on the jacket compared to your original AP review version. Thanks for sharing :D
@jacquelinelove8481
@jacquelinelove8481 5 жыл бұрын
Okay, now I think I like the Strong Tone a lot more. Army Painter seems like a really good system for getting very natural tones on a model. It seems silly to switch into the system now, but I do have a bunch of Sylvaneth that might benefit from a really simple scheme for their wood...
@SonicSledgehammerStudio

That medium stuff does a great job of smoothing out the finish and getting rid of the super hard-edged look from the pure Strong Tone, I'm really liking it.

Your painting is awesome as usual. The model is also fantastic. I *really* need to get the female soldiers box from North Star, and when I do, I'll definitely assemble one gal to look like this one! (I don't know if you use your minis to play, but Rangers of Shadow Deep is indeed a very cool game).

I rarely find the time to put out scenery and play a game myself, unfortunately! I've got my hands on the rulebook, and North Star also have the official Rangers of Shadow Deep miniatures coming so there's a lot to look forward to hobby-wise, as well. :D

Army Painter paints have so much pigment, if you 50/50 with a good glaze medium and paint over a white undercoat, you get pretty much the same as the new Citadel contrast effect.

I noticed in your previous army painter video (the female gunslinger) you said you put a steel ball bearing in the dropped bottle. I’ve seen a few people say this can rust and stain the paint, and suggest using a glass bead... any experience of this?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 5 жыл бұрын
It's not something I've noticed happening yet, and some of my paints have had bearings in them for a year or more at this point. I think as long as it's stainless steel rather than an ordinary, functional bit of metal it should be fine - AK Interactive where I got mine from use stainless steel as the agitators they sell, as do Army Painter. Glass beads would be a fine solution, of course, but I haven't had any problems with steel. ...yet!
@darkstorminc
@darkstorminc 5 жыл бұрын
It will depend on the quality of the steel. Get them from AP or look for those used for nail polish. You want a high quality stainless steel. Glass beads just dont have the weight needed to make a good agitator in most cases. Still better than those who say use plastic beads lol

They did send me the big box with all the kit. The completionist in me is determined to paint something with every single one of the paints, but there are some I don't think will see a huge amount of use. That being said, their Effects line has been really fun to play with, too - expect to see a couple little bits with those soon!

I got the Mega Paint Set from Game Nerdz for 10 bucks cheaper than Amazon. ($79.97 with free shipping.) First time I ever ordered from them, but they give you a point for every dollar you spend and they give you 300 points for making an account AND the 80 points you get for ordering the paint set puts you over 350, the first tier of rewards, which will give you five dollars off any future purchases. *Deep breath.* Just a thought.

And again a nice painting video and new Inspiration for my armies :-) My next project will be some chaos guys and I really liked your Alpha legion guy! I want some friends from black legion for them, fighting side by side. The video gives so much zoom, part of my issues for painting stem from my eyes starting to go (i'm new) and proper lighting. I've got a small directional light with a 150 watt bulb but what do you or anyone in the comments use?

I've got a ring lamp on a swing arm that's got an LED light and an inbuilt magnifying glass in the center. I'm lucky enough not to have to use the magnifier yet, but the light's a lifesaver. A quick search for 'lupelicht' or 'magnifying lamp' or something similar should give results in your area. :)

Woohoo, finally using a wet palette :) Congratulations! Btw, I use those frostgrave soldiers sprues mostly as a source for conversions, tons of weapons and cool tools on them...but the bodies are not that interesting.

@SonicSledgehammerStudio 5 жыл бұрын
I've been using it for a while - it's only now that I've moved the desk around that I can at last get it on screen while I'm working with it, too. ;D There's one or two bodies that are very definitely for specific poses, it feels like, but it's nice to have the variety. What other parts are you converting them with? Might be fun to have more plastic to play with...
@MentoliptusBanko
@MentoliptusBanko 5 жыл бұрын
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio converting them mostly with GW minis, but also some Reaper minis. The GW infantry (e.g. daughters of khaine) have more dynamic poses than those frostgrave minis, but their weapons are all the same, so this makes for nice variants. I don't play army-size games, only skirmish games so I don't need them to be "uniform" and can use them for d&d, frostgrave and similar games.
