It takes so long to dry because of the deodorant stick. It is not absorbed into the fake skin so it just stays wet on the surface. Just pat the skin with a damp cloth, apply the stencil and it will dry within minutes...seconds with the hairdryer.

As a tattooer just 5 years in the industry it’s definitely a plus to get a apprenticeship under a tattooer you really like and that have a name in the industry since the industry is super gatekeepe’y, in my opinion it’s an art form and you don’t have to do what anyone tells you, but if you go into this without a mentorship it always going to work against you, it’s going to be a lot harder to get into a respectable shop and attend tattoo conventions and so on. But keep on drawing, and learn the hygiene part and tattoo your leg, you learn a whole lot more by tattooing yourself then the fake skin, needle depth, voltage, machine angel, pulling/pushing lines and when it heals you can get a better idea of what actually works in skin vs what doesn’t.

I’ve been considering getting an apprenticeship but I move so often🙃 I’ll look more into it. I’ll definitely start focusing on hygiene stuff soon. Thanks so much.

@@imonawatchlist ofc no problem, and a tip for smaller lines, hang the needle a bit more out, lower the voltage and use your pinky finger for some more stability and drag/pull with your arm and not just your wrist. A important thing in tattooing is not going to deep in the skin but also not to light, by tattooing yourself u get a feel for the vibration in the skin and machine as you stretch the skin and pull a line. And no human body part is flat so I would suggest to get a 1L cola bottle or something similar and laying the second skin over and fastening it with some tape to imitate the roundness of a arm or leg, use both hands even though you don need to stretch the second skin it’s a good habit to learn early on. Bigger needle requires a more 90’ degree angel, but that’s for 15 liners and up, smaller groupings don’t really need a top down angel but remember the entry point of the needle and the way you angel it, you want it in an angel so that the needle in the skin doesn’t go outside of the stencil (if it makes any sense, like if you’re pulling towards you, you want the tip of the needle to point towards you and not to the side, a bit hard to explain but if I find a video I’ll link it) And for coloring go in smaller circles so you pack the ink in good, but lower voltage for color packing and shading then lining. Use a liner to get in those little cracks in the design, it’s hard to pack black line to line with a curved mag. If you want a smoother shade black for detail you can make your own gray by watering down your black by adding steril water, 50/50 ink/water is a dark gray wash and 70/30 is a medium gray wash and so on. Depends on the quality of ink your using, kurosumi is a really good brand of ink And watch the old guys/girls on KZbin, “iron will” is a good series, it’s by grime. And the vice series, the “tattoo age”

You are doing Great Few Tips to consider the tattoo machine you are using will struggle pushing the needle especially if its bigger than 7RL probably you'll get by if you are using long taper adjust your voltage according to your hand speed but stay away from high voltage on 3RL , 5RL as you will cut the skin and that will result in scarring take your time and look for consistency in your lines by adjusting your hand speed to voltage -3RL , 5RL go between 5.5V to 7.5V (remember to adjust hand speed ) -11RM to 22RM run your machine between 6V to 8V hope this helps ... Wrap the fake skin on a bottle or something round so jou don't do it just on flat surface.

I’m beginner too 1.i use other type of stick for stencils hairdryer do the job after that spray it with alcohol and it’s staying visible lines or instead of hairdryer i wait 45-60 mins and alcohol again. 2.For cleaning the skin i use baby oil while tattooing its clear very nice and is cheap.. vaseline or other A&D doesn’t clean as well fake skin i use them only on my hand to glide better. 3.if your stencil doesn’t go away after you finish your design try soak it in bleach from 12 to 48 hours most of the time will disappear. 4.Always try to use gloves and sanitize your stuff when tattooing it’s a nice habit to have for future. 5.make design with both lines and shading that way you don’t advance only in lining. is there anything that youd suggest for people who are interested in tattooing? or something you wish you knew when you first started, some advice you wish you had?

I kind of wish I experimented more with the machine instead of jumping into tattooing designs. Knowing what different angles, different voltages, different movement speeds, different depths, etc. do is really helpful for when you actually start tattooing designs. Watching others helps a lot too! There are tons of great artists on KZbin to learn from.

Use pig skin it’s the nearest you get to real skin from butchers and it’s pence to buy but be warned it can sometimes be a little smelly lol But it gives that real touch
