I get asked a lot how I prepared food for Harry and Megan when they were weaning so thought I'd put this short video together for you. If there are any other foods you want to see how we served let me know in the comments and I can make more videos like this!

This video is so helpful! My baby has been showing all the signs of readiness but we've been worried about choking.

ugh i’m so scared to even try it! i want to so bad bc i see my baby show so much interest but the times i’ve given her she gags (also seems to not chew on the piece) and it makes me nervous. she’s 6 mo already.

Gagging is a normal and appropriate response for a baby starting on solids! You will even see a baby with purees do this.this is their natural instinct babies have so food doesnt go too far back in their mouth, their gag reflex is actually much more sensitive than ours so when theyre gagging, the food is not hitting the back of the throat but moreso in the middle of the mouth.

I’m the same way! I want to keep doing this so bad but it really scares me. Especially offering grains like bread and stuff, I just don’t understand how my 6 month old can swallow and digest this very easily

I was too! Anything with slight texture gave me so much anxiety to try! I got over it (& baby got over his gagging) with trying rice crispies soaked for a few seconds in formula. Now he eats them dry, and he goes for 1 handful, with 1 kernel seemingly ending up in his mouth; the rest scattered on himself and the floor. I don’t know if that is good advice from a medical or dietary standpoint, just something that we tried and had luck with.

From myvexperience, the longer they go without eating solids the weaker their gag reflux and the more likely they are to really choke.

I’m worried my LO might choke on the berries/grapes. Have you had any issues with that being a choking hazard? Also, is the toast soft?
@KayleyAnneM
@KayleyAnneM 3 жыл бұрын
The grapes and large berries I always halved. The toast I just cooked the same as I would like to eat it. I found it was easier when it wasn't too soft as bread can turn gloomy if chewed a lot and can be harder to swallow x

I would not give grapes even halfed as their skin can be chew especially for non organic grapes

Question. That grape quarter is about the size of a blueberry that you advised to smoosh. What’s the difference?

My baby literally will shove a whole broccoli stem in his mouth And roll it around his mouth where it is not being swallowed but just in his mouth and it’s freaking me out because it seems like a choking hazard. My first baby did baby led weaning but wasn’t really interested in solids until he was like 11 months old so it seemed way less dangerous.

That banana trick is amazing. Love it. Do you need to steam the cucumber? Is it a little hard for them?

I gave my baby finger sized toast with a bit of pb and he seemed to like it, but then he stuffed the whole piece in his mouth and I got scared and quickly removed it. Is it normal for babies to stuff the toast in their mouth?

I'm scared of this and it's apparently very normal. They call it "stuffing" and the video I watched the little boy put a whole half kiwi in his mouth 😱

My little one it's everything.....I can't leave skin on because it's going to be gone.... I did that with banana 😨 and I watched him chewing on the skin first before he went for the middle...it was peeled I just left some skin so he can grip better. 😬

Another question. The piece of mango Is about the same size as an uncut grape. What’s the difference?
@KayleyAnneM
@KayleyAnneM 3 жыл бұрын
The grape is longer than the mango. When they aren't cut grapes are the perfect size and shape to get stuck in a child's throat and get lodged tightly meaning first aid would struggle to remove it x

What I've read is that they don't need teeth. The get the front ones first and those are not used for chewing. Molars don't come out until later. The gums are strong enough to chew. Solidstarts.com is great. You enter what food you want to give and it tells you how to prepare it. They are also on Instagram
