The outside of the Sprite's bonnet gets a coat or two of primer! Sanded back to bare metal, body filler removed and replaced and at least two coats of 1K rattle can primer applied to the outside of the bonnet.
My original intent was to hand sand back the worst of the rust. I got carried away and didn't bother to pull out the power equipment except for when I removed the old body filler. Although it was a messy job it was almost therapeutic seeing the rust disappear and the shiny metal underneath begin to show.
Just a quick disclaimer... this may not be the "correct" way to do this job but it's how I did it with what resources I have on hand.

In case you were wondering, I'm using pieces of styrofoam insulation for my sanding blocks. I go into some detail on these back in episode 44 so be sure to check that one out, after watching this episode of course!

Nails in the hinge, mirrors on the door. I love what people did, or had to (with best intentions), to keep these cars going!

Great job as always! As I've never painted any part of a car before let alone a whole car, will you be wet sanding the primer? Or is it smooth enough for the color coat to look nice. Just wondering. Keep up the great work!

Thank you. I will be sanding the primer, not sure if it will be wet or dry yet.
