fixing a roller blind, in particular putting the string back on a roller blind.
Getting the chain back on to the blind mechanism can be frustrating especially when the cord comes of the blind and you don't know exactly how to get the cord back on the blind.
in the video you will see how i put the string back onto the blind to allow it to be opened and closed. nice easy fix.
if the blind is in warranty i would try to take it back if its covered, before trying to fix it as it might void the warranty on the blind.
IMPORTANT : the blind and cord should be installed correctly and in accordance to the guidance, legislations and instructions from the manufacturer, and can be seen on the GOV UK website, the cords/string/chain ect.. on blinds pose a strangulation risk especially to children. so it is important they are fitted safely, correctly and kept out of reach of children.
thanks for watching

Nice detailed video but when I saw 2 tools require and sawing involved I decided to go back to the "brut force" approach. Fixed mine just using a kitchen knife to prise open a 'channel' and then with a little tricky dextererity you can push the beads in. Once a few go in slide knife (or use a screwdriver if you have one) along a little and get more chain through. Definitely can't thread it back in but was easy with the plastic on mine being cheap flex it - if I snapped it I had resigned my self to buying a new one. I ain't got no time to be sawing anything. So my tip for lazier types just get at with a kitchen knife and force that chain back in.

Only way I could think you could do it is if you cut the string and push it in one side spin the mechanism so it comes round then either not the string again or get a saftey brake joiner thing that clips over 2 balls to join it.

Pardon my ignorance, what is the use for the chain if I simply can pull down the shade? Thanks!!
@RustyDIY
@RustyDIY 2 жыл бұрын
The chain moves the barrel inside so the spring allows the blind to roll. Unless the blind you are talking about is designed to be pulled down ?
@julieharris8021

With all due respect, there's no need to go to all that trouble of dismantling the mechanism, I did mine in seconds by gently lifting the closed lip part with a flat screwdriver and slipping the bobble cord under, works like a dream.
@RustyDIY
@RustyDIY 2 жыл бұрын
ya i have done that before but i for some reason couldn't do that on this one felt like it was to tight and might brake. but the easiest rout to get the same job done is often the best so nice work and thanks for taking the time to comment 😊

If you put the cord in the channel and hold the main tubular mechanism and twist the part where the cord is inserted this then runs that cord through the channel put the other side without taking everything apart ;)
@RustyDIY
@RustyDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I guess if the cord is one that has a joint in it then this sounds nice and easy. But if the cord didn't like mine then I'd guess you could cut it and buy a jointing bit ?

my chain stopped going around , the damn thing was brand new ! I took the house apart and there were TWO springs inside, it made no sense since it only has to use one ?!. The spring taps were fine, as said they are new. So spinned the whole thing back into position, it can only go in one way, but still does not work, chain still does not budge when I pull it , I dont get it. Got any advice mate ? Debel roller blind if it matters.
@RustyDIY
@RustyDIY 2 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing it has 2 springs for strength maybe if it's long or heavy blind. 🤔 dose it spin before you push it back onto the blind or is it just locked all the time seems strange unless one spring has shifted a bit and is holding it tight.
@shywalker404
@shywalker404 2 жыл бұрын
@@RustyDIY it's just locked. I wonder if it was fabricated wrong- I will leave it in my "stuff for later" box when I have time to explore it and take it apart. I just need my curtain up so will buy a spare part today - thanks for reply and thanks for the videos , it gave it more sense to what I was doing
@RustyDIY
@RustyDIY 2 жыл бұрын
im sorry your reply was held for review i didn't see it, it is possible it was put together wrong, if its new surly its under warranty and you can swap it ? maybe the 2 springs are working against each other so wont allow to spin in either direction could try spinning one around and seeing if it makes a difference would be my guess.

This just happened to me. You don't need to dismantle, just pop the end of the cord in the roller and use a key to spin the roller so it pulls the cord through.

Take the blind off the window, remove both ends, reverse the end with no chain and stick it in the back of the end with the chain, connecting the octagonal bits, then the mechanism moves freely.

You could cut the cord and feed it into one side of the roller and manually rotate the roller as you feed it in till the cord comes out the other side then get a joint piece. But that joint piece might not fit through the mechanism so you'd want to work it out that it dosnt have to, by having the blind fully closed then put the joint on at the top and hopefully there is enough chain to go round to fully open the blind before the joint reaches the mechanism again.. if that makes sense.
