Great info. I have a very similar process when I decide to do the QT myself. Thanks for sharing 👌🏻

Thanks for the information. How often do you do water change in your 10-20 gallons tank during the copper powder treatment? And how many gallons did you use for the water change, what percentage? Nvm - 5 gallons on a 20 gallons tank…
@Reefing1320 Жыл бұрын
Mine is a 10 gallon. 2 days after I dose GC, I do a 50% change (5 gallons). I also change as needed. If ammonia gets too high.

I am new so please bare with me lol. When you dose the metroplex it’s with the food right? Also i always thought that when you do the water change the water with copper you put back in should match the same copper levels in the qt tank?
@Reefing1320 Жыл бұрын
sorry. just seen this. I dose metro in the water itself. when you dose genral cure, you can do it both ways. for the copper, yes. make sure close and not below 2.0 PPM if using copper power. Im not sure on the other brands. hope this helps.

QT is good for sure but you can also manage ich in a tank with proper stocking and correct diet. I Qt my stuff but I do have one of my tanks that has had ich in it for about 4 years. It is manageable but can be stressful at times.
@Reefing1320 Жыл бұрын
I don’t want it in my tanks at all. You are correct, it’s manageable, but I’d rather it not be there at all.

Thanks for the video! I have copper power but just ordered the other two. How often are you testing the copper level? I have the Hanna copper checker as well..
@Reefing1320 Жыл бұрын
As long as I’m not doing any water changes and you don’t have anything in the tank that would absorb and take the copper out it normally stays the same at least in my experience, but I would check it every three or four days just to make sure

@@Reefing1320 I have rock in my qt tank for hiding spots. I had it laying around and pvc fittings are getting expensive. Especially the 4”+ fittings. Based on a couple google searches, people say it may absorb it but not as much as you would think. So I’ll just run with it. Thanks again
@Reefing1320 Жыл бұрын
I would say run it and just check copper a little more often to make sure it’s not dropping too low. I think you’ll be fine but just remember which rock you used as that rock can also release the copper into the water so down the road you don’t want to reuse it in a different system.
@MikeLemming Жыл бұрын
@@Reefing1320 yes, it will strictly be qt rock.. I just have a bunch laying around so, might as well use it

@@Reefing1320 just did my first dose in hopes to raise the copper level to 1.0. This may be a stupid question but, how long should I wait until I test the copper level?

Is it enough just to QT the fish for 2 weeks and observe them that they dont have any disease, without putting in the copper power (or the other meds)? Then if they are clean after 2 weeks, move them to the display tank. My point is why subject them to copper power and other meds if they dont for sure need it. I realize that once they show sign of disease they will be under stress, but if I am checking their health every day I would catch it right away.
@Reefing13204 ай бұрын
In my experience, no it’s not enough. I mean, if you want to risk the heath of all your other fish then go for it but I wouldn’t. Using copper power the way I do, I’ve yet to have a fish die in the QT tank. Trust me, I don’t like putting the fish through anything I don’t need to. I was against the copper in the beginning but realized after losing fish, it’s needed. You do you, but I recommend QT in copper around 2.25-2.50 PPM for 14 days. Have a good one.

If I build a quarantine fish tank, what should I do with the tank after each quarantine? Since there is mature filter material in the fish tank, can I just change 100% of the water to remove the residual drugs in the water? Thank you
@Reefing13205 ай бұрын
you sure can. I change 100% of the water, put the copper back to a 1.0 PPM and add the next fish.
@forsongonly29095 ай бұрын
@@Reefing1320 Do you have any mature filter materials in QT? As long as physical filtration is required, the water needs to be changed every two or three days, and copper medicine needs to be supplemented all the time.
@Reefing13205 ай бұрын
I currently am running a waterbox 10 gallon aio, so for the mech filtration, it’s just some filter floss (change as needed). I have a couple PVC pieces in the tank as well as a small cycled rock from another system. I only change the water a few days after I add GC and that’s it as long as there’s no ammonia. When you do a water change, make sure you match the PPM of copper (running currently in QT system) so it doesn’t drop below the 2.0 PPM limit or you should start over to be safe. Hope this helps.
