Love the callout that we already read tons of words every day and that we can relatively easily redirect that energy towards books. Never thought of it that way!

Ah thank you! Hope it helps!

I really liked the non-zero days tip. I apply it with everything I care or that I am trying to improve. I used to be a voracious reader but daily life got in the way, I set a very modest reading goal of 20 books this year but now that I got the hang of it I am aiming higher, 48 in 2024. The hardest part is giving up a boring book, but life is too short to suffer hehe Awesome video, thanks!

20 is pretty solid! Glad you enjoyed the video, I've got another one on books coming out that I hope will be really useful 😅

Maybe it's easier if you don't think of giving it up forever, but just postponing it to a possible future. Sometimes it's just not the right moment for reading a book, you set it aside and when you come back to it a few years later you wonder how you could have possibly judged it boring...

What the heck, I just found your channel from your 1 year piano progress video.. My interests are piano, home workouts and reading lol. I think I might be you, so I don't have a choice but to subscribe.

Haaaaa! It's a great set of interests to have. You should take up Brazilian jiu-jitsu, then you've got the full set. Thanks for the sub!

Also just found this channel from that same video! And also had a similar reaction, as I am into reading/writing, learning/creating music, weight training, and self improvement!

I feel validated 😂 I always have multiple books on the go! Great tips thanks

Love this! Last year was my first time reaching/passing a personal reading goal (of a modest 30), and some of these tips basically capture the essence of how I shifted my priorities in order to follow through on that and also keep up with all my other hobbies. Making reading or playing an instrument the default is key for me, too!
@JoelSnape12 жыл бұрын
Ah that's great! Any books you'd recommend? And what do you play?

Depends what you like, but sounds like you’ve got quite a broad range! I’m currently reading and loving Prodigal Son, a new release and first book by a classmate of mine from high school theatre, Robert Toms. And I started with guitar, so that’s my “main” instrument, followed by piano/keyboard. I have bass, ukulele, and mandolin lined up, but don’t play them much, let alone anything advanced. Also love playing the kalimba and tongue drum to relax, singing bowls etc.. The flute is my newest challenge!

Just don't have the attention span for fiction, need a steady supply of facts. But you've convinced me to give it another go. Would love to know what worked for you with every book. Would love even more for you to tell us how you spend almost every minute of your day for a week. Example: Wake up, private time 10 -15 minutes, made his oatmeal, had coffee, tea, smoothie or a protein shake. Now it's 7am, ate beans or avocado on toast, played with son, read 60 pages in 30 minutes. I know how my friends spend their time. A realistic day in the life of. Thank you. Subscribed.

Hello Joel! I discovered your channel through piano progress video. But stayed because of very informative self improvement videos. Definitely reading the selfish gene! Also your channel is a good practice of English for me because I am not a native speaker.

Tu canal me motiva. No entiendo mucho de lo que dices pero me agradas. Me dan ganas de empezar a grabar mis progresos en la música o cualquier otra cosa que quiera aprender. Ojalá entender bien los consejos que das algún día, me tengo que proponer aprender inglés.

I count short stories in my "books" of the year, so that they balance the 800-1000 page books.

This is a good idea! What's a short story you'd really recommend? (And maybe a 1000 page book 😂)

Interesting, I randomly click on link to watch a 40 year learn piano, click on another in a playlist because I am interested in becoming a beginner again after 20 years of focusing on Jiu-Jitsu, I click on link about learning and you also do Jiu-jitsu, play piano, read tons of books, and make KZbin videos. I liked and Subscribed…now to mine to explore. Thanks Joel.
@JoelSnape1 Жыл бұрын
KZbin KNOWS. Seriously though, I feel like piano is the perfect complement to BJJ - one you have to do with others, the path to progress is not very clear, it's super-physical and demands getting out of the house: the other you can lock yourself in a room and do solo, and the path ahead is pretty clear. Glad you found the channel! Let me know how piano goes, and if there's anything you'd like me to cover.
