How I really feel about my cyber security degree ft. a confused college student

Cyber Security is a degree that can be beneficial in pretty much any IT-related field. Personally, I think I'm going to be taking my degree over to the world of web application development. ✩ Comment your career path below! I completed my degree in CIS then did 1.5 years in IT Support, before moving into IT security. It was quite a big change but, some of the skills are transferable from my degree and I really enjoy my position. Btw I really enjoy your content. Keep up the good work 💪

Its refreshing hearing someone have the same thoughts as I do. Im in my 3rd (out of 4) year of Cybersecurity and I just can't help but feel as im not doing what I truly am best at or actually want to do with my life...I could ramble about this for hours but it's calming to know im not the only one :)

We were all confused at some point, and that’s perfectly normal. And I think anyone can easily change their mind along the way cause you just never know. Either way, just enjoy the ride of learning new stuff under your belt. I believe every path is unique!

I'll be a junior in the fall and I'm majoring in computer science. I too am lost in what exactly what I want to do with it LOL. I'm thinking software engineer because that seems like the natural step for people with my degree but I'm still unsure. Good luck with web development, that's fire!

Great video! You will do great in Web Application Development! The cool thing about a cybersecurity degree is you learn a lot of useful skills that you can utilize in many different technology focused jobs.

There are a lot of different jobs that touch Cyber Security. Even if you do not work specifically in a Cyber Security department there are things to secure. Application development and anything to do with web NEED security champions because they have not traditionally focused on building security into products.

Sounds like you want to be a full-stack dev. You can use your skills in cyber sec on the backend to sanitize inputs to prevent xss before sending to database then pass your clean data to a pretty frontend that you built. Look into full stack development.

Im a senior in high school and im taking a cyber security course in a college near by and its really fun especially the ethical hacking stuff but is a degree worth it tho?

I agree with them! ^^ College taught me so much that I would have never learned on my own. I value having a full understanding of business compared to just learning about cyber security. For me college has been beneficial because, as I mentioned in the video, I don’t think I want to do cyber security forever and my business/cyber degree gives me the flexibility to do that. It’s hard to know what you want to do for the rest of your life while you’re still in high school, so if you do chose college, I’d say chose something that gives you some flexibility. :)

A degree will help you into much bigger companies if that is something you sre intrested in, but if you are not intrested in that a cert or associate can take you a good amount
