Yes sir! You are da man! I've played drums since 1968, but I'm getting a late start in life, recording. Thank you for an excellent, understandable, presentation on how to tune and record! Really getting a lot out of it!!!

i'm not sure how anyone could give this a thumbs down, a really helpful tutorial on micing and recording, best on youtube, thanks

Thanks! I don't have any latency problems. But I don't use any outboard gear or any digital processing during the recordings. It all goes flat to the computer. Also, even if there was any latency I wouldn't "feel" it because I'm listening to the play along track from the CD player connected to the Onyx, I don't get the play along track from the computer, meaning the firewire cable is one way only during recording.

Great job! ... a question, can you play from the PC via firewire, recorded tracks, in order to add new ones? Greetings from Argentina.

Fantastic series, especially since I'm getting this mixer, and even more fantastic because I too have a starclassic kit!

@MrNickdrummer You're welcome! :) You have do great job although I think that maybe the right title would be : "How I processing and mixing my drums" instead "How I record my drums" because I didn't see you anywhere to push the "red" button!:) I would like to see the recording of the drums.

@MrSpyX You are correct my friend! My board isn't modified, so I need to correct what I said. It is indeed pre or post EQ and not pre or post fader. Thanks for pointing that out, my blabbering in these videos were not rehearsed so that was an honest mistake... Thanks!

Hey Nick great job man!I want to ask you if you have any latency problem with your onyx 1640i in the the recordings?
@MrSpyX_L13 жыл бұрын
At 3:47 you said that the pre post FW button take the signal pre or post fader. So is this a modified Onyx? Because at the standard configuration the pre post FW button take the signal only pre or post EQ.

I just looked on Sweetwater and this mixer is no longer available; if u had to buy one rt now would u buy this model used, or what would u have your heart set on now....?

I honestly don't know because I don't need a new one... But as long as it has great mic pre-amps and a digital interface to more recent USB-C ports, etc... it should work for amateur recordings.

Since I'm not working with a SSL or NEVE console here, I didn't spend too much on cables. Just bought in bulk at amazon, and out of 10 cables one was dead on arrival. If I was doing professional recordings in a professional studio then yes, I'd get more expensive cables. No need for that in my home studio. I don't even know what brand the cables are, but I didn't buy the cheapest.

Thanks for your reply Nick!I have one more question,In your vst connection you choose stereo out per channel or choose channel 1 and out 1 and the same per channel? Because the channels 15 and 16 its the stereo out of the mixer. And one more...I which way have you connect your pc like tape machine?With the tape machine buttom? Thank you.

MrNickDrummer perhaps a stupid question, but I will ask it anyway....how is the quality of your XLR cables....I am assuming using crappy ones will yield a lower quality recording. What brand of cable do you use?
