I mentioned at 7:57 that I wouldn’t overcomplicate things by explaining this point in the video, but I thought it might be beneficial to explain it, so I’ll do that here in the comments instead. My blood pressure originally dropped upon being tilted up to 70 degrees and then immediately the compensation from the heart beating faster artificially raised it up to a more normal level. All of a sudden after a minute or so of being tilted, my blood pressure shot up and continued to remain at a very elevated level. This happened because of certain sensory receptors located within my brain called chemoreceptors; these receptors sense the amount of carbon dioxide that’s in our blood. When high carbon dioxide levels are sensed, the body recognises that it needs to expel the carbon dioxide, and it does this by vasodilation (opening up) of the blood vessels. When low carbon dioxide levels are sensed on the other hand, the body recognises that it needs to retain what carbon dioxide it has left, and the opposite occurs; vasoconstriction (closing up) of the blood vessels. When I was tilted up to 70 degrees the blood flow velocity up to my head dropped to approximately 65%, when ideally it should’ve been much closer to 90% (this level was measured by a device I wore on my head called a trans-cranial dopler). Because less blood was making it to my brain, these chemoreceptors in my brain suddenly sensed lower than ideal amounts of carbon dioxide, and so signalled for my blood vessels to vasoconstrict; which caused my blood pressure to increase. Unfortunately, this starts off a nasty cycle, where the increase in blood pressure restricts blood flow up to the brain, the brain senses even less carbon dioxide in the blood and then signals for the blood vessels to constrict even more. After blood flow has been compromised to the brain for a long enough period of time (this could be seconds/minutes) the body forces the host (you) to sit/lie down to restore blood flow back in the brain.
