I relax my hair every 8 weeks which my mum does for me. This video is just to show her relaxing my hair and is not an indication to say that you must relax your hair in the exact same way. My mum chooses to do it this way, so relax yours in the way you feel most comfortable.

If you apply relaxers to the ends of your hair (that has already been relaxed) it will cause overprocessing thereby weakening your hair and causing it to break. Relaxers should only be put on the new growth.

so? It's still her hair and it's healthy. Therefore, healthy Afro Hair. Y'all claim to be supportive but then the natural hair community shames everyone that doesn't fit into the 3b 3c hair. Then go back and shame the mixed girls with 2b 3a 3b hair, and now we're moving to shame the relaxed hair huh?! Well kindly FU!

I never leave the relaxer on my hair, instead I wash it out as soon as it's all been applied. If your hair is breaking at the front, then avoid relaxing that area for now or if you can, try and stretch your relaxer to allow time for your temples to grow back.

I swear I'm so tired of relaxing. It keeps my hair at the same length and the new growth just breaks off so you don't see the difference. I really don't like relaxers. I'm just going to transition and cut it of then go fully natural. Because im tired of the nonsense it caused.
@HealthyAfroHair
@HealthyAfroHair 10 жыл бұрын
Relaxers are not for everyone and requires a lot of effort to ensure it's cared for after the process. It makes the hair weaker, so if regular protein & moisturising treatments and moisturising of the hair is not carried out often enough, it will eventually start to break.
@SalimaZourbaOG
@SalimaZourbaOG 10 жыл бұрын
just start over FROM THE SCALP, relax it and then do a Brazilian blow dry with keratin to repair it, that's how I do it, my hair didn't grow and when it grows I had to cut my ends, like you said, because of the damage. But last year I started a new routine. DON'T CUT IT ANYMORE, BE PATIENT And don't straighten your hair every day with a flat iron... if you can't live without it, try to blow dry your hair with an airstyler. it's effective and easier.. and healthier for your hair. try to moisturize your hair with coconut oil, leave it in for the night.. It took me a year, it takes long but it's worth it. my hair is smooth, shiny, long, and stronger.

There is a huge relaxed hair community and honestly my hair is the longest it has ever been after 10 years of being at the same length. My ig handle is @relaxedriri and you'll see my before and after. I think both natural and relaxed are great but imo relaxed hair works better for me at the moment.

Stretching is prolonging the length of time you relax your hair. So for example; let's say you relax your hair every 8 weeks, but then decide that you would like to relax it every 10 weeks instead. Stretching would mean that you would stretch your relaxer for an additional 2 weeks. It's just another word for extending.

I am happy to see someone with long hair who relaxes after 8 weeks. I used to relax every 12-14 weeks but I have so much new growth now by 8 weeks that it is becoming more difficult to stretch that long.

@keedaomen It's hard to say what's causing your breakage problem. It could be that your not moisturised your hair enough, you could be using too much heat, it be your overall hair regime. You'd need to tell me your current regime for me to make suggestions. Yes, I do protein treatments one week and moisturising treatments the following week to give my hair the even balance between the two. I mention this in my Top 10 Tips vid.

It's best to read the instruction manual that comes with the relaxer kit you use. I use ORS Relaxer kit and the entire activator and relaxer must be added together in order for the hair to process correctly. But never worry about wastage.

I am really inspired by your hair growth, I've done trial and error now for a few years and I think I've FINALLY got it!!! I can't go natural because my hair is way too thick and my schedule is way to busy to maintain and spend the time but I can do the hair growth and good maintenance with relaxing. I'm glad you update often and I will subscribe. Thanks!!

@keedaomen I always use a (light/mild) protein conditioner a week before, during and a week after my relaxers. As for using a hard treatment like Apoghee, I've never used it prior to relaxing before, so it's hard for me to comment on whether it's ok. I do find that Apoghee products are quite strong on the hair.

I wouldn't recommend you relaxing damaged hair. You need to try and bring it back to health first by doing weekly washing & conditioning treatments. Managing relaxed hair requires a lot of maintenance, so prepare yourself now, by looking after your natural hair. You can have a look through all my videos for tips on what you can be doing to help improve it's condition.
@HealthyAfroHair

There's two different terms for 'natural'. There's 'natural' as in 'not chemically treated' and 'natural' as in a 'person's real hair'. But bear in mind that this process is damaging to the hair, as it breaks down the protein bonds (in the hair) altering the natural curl pattern making it straight. So the correct care must be taken to avoid breakage and any further damage.
@HealthyAfroHair
@HealthyAfroHair 12 жыл бұрын
It's called; Healthy Afro Hair because regardless of whether you have natural or relaxed hair, overall it's all 'Afro Hair'.

@ReginaShenelleFullwood, aren't those questions you should have sought answers to before applying the relaxer to your hair?? I'm not being facetious. I'm just trying to point out that it's important to gather all the information you need before doing something damaging to your hair instead of trying to find answers after applying chemicals to your hair. Seriously would you go skydiving without finding out how to do it safely??.. Yes that was me being facetious.

@keedaomen Before I started my hair care journey, I used to relax my hair every 6 weeks, but since starting I decide to stretch it to every 8 weeks. Stretching can be good, however, not everyone's hair can take it. So you have to be careful not to overdo stretch and 'listen to your hair' as you rightly said. My hair was due the weekend gone, but I'm stretching another week making it 9 weeks.
