This isn’t just fixing a toy, it’s restoring life to an art piece. Great work.
@waynesbutler78342 ай бұрын
This is why you never keep your figures sealed in a box, off gassing will eat the rubber and plastics without ventilation, So many collectors have their sets sealed in a box thinking blindly that it will retain its value for future resale when without knowing its a greasy mess. That smell we all like when opening a new Hottoys or similar figure is off gassing and the beginning of the end if not dealt with early. Great job on the restoration.

Wow didn't know that. Thanks
@waynesbutler78342 ай бұрын
@@unorthdoxcleric6953 Adam Savage interviewed a lady from the Smithsonian talking about the preservation of rubbers and plastics and she mentioned the need for ventilation due to off gassing, some plastics and rubbers are worse then others, She was talking about these as they applied to a space suit made with quality components not as mass produced product with less then quality components but still plastic and rubber.

@waynesbutler7834 nailed it! I'm a hot toys collector who DISPLAYS his figures and never have I had this issue. Even my darth vader, over 10 years old looks brand new. You actually ADD value by displaying these figures. My 10 year old open box items look better than other collectors sealed items. 👌 You paid for it, enjoy it! Lol
@waynesbutler78342 ай бұрын
@@Lord_Pistachio_Nut Couldnt agree more, i have collected alot of Hottoys over the years and displayed all of them, you can have your figures protected in a cabinet or case because not many are sealed tight. Its the clam shelled figures like this one that is completely sealed that dont fair well, to see the lower black clam shell broken apart like this shows the destructive power of off gassing.

Its not the choice of materials but the storage factor, especially with these clam shelled figures. I have alot of HT figures with mixed media over 10 years old and all is like new because i display all my figures in cabinets that are not air tight. Its keeping them sealed in a box especially these clam shell boxes with the tight fitting plastic shells that cause problems, off gassing can be destructive over time, some materials worse then others. The destruction of the lower black plastic shell shows how potent off gassing can be.
@lordaniolist2 ай бұрын
@@waynesbutler7834 Aaah hmm interesting I watch a 1/6 scale figure reviewer that lives in Australia and he talks a lot about pleather not lasting because of the temperature where he lives. Guess it depends where you are and like you said, how it's stored. Still nice to get real leather where you can.
@waynesbutler78342 ай бұрын
@@lordaniolist Yes that is another variable for sure that i should of mentioned but i already have an issue with being a chatter box, lol. Temperature and humidity are huge factors with alot of stuff in our house from collectables to wooden furniture. The only place that is safe is a vault 30 feet in the ground where the temp and humidity is more regulated. At the end of the day you do what you can do nothing more nothing less. We dont last forever and neither does our figures. Like in life enjoy it while it last.
@lordaniolist2 ай бұрын
@@waynesbutler7834 lol i gotcha, no problem for me, I like hearing about this kind of stuff. True but they are very expensive, I would hope everything that could be done was when ordering something that costs so much. Big props if you know and don't mind to replace pieces but I feel like in general these types of things could have been altered for not toooooo much more. Then again I've never bought a 1/6 scale figure and maybe temperature isn't a big deal until you get to higher extremes. It seems like I've had pleather items and they've been fine, but i'm not sure about items on this level, besides what I've heard.
