A little fun fact about the trees turning yellow: the yellow is actually always in the leaves (the pigments), but the green (chlorophyll) overtakes it during spring/summer. When autumn starts the trees doesn't give the leaves much or any energy anymore and the leaves start to die off (including the chlorphyll inside), which causes the yellow/orange pigments to be more 'dominant'. So the autumnal colours are actually always present in the leaves (even during summer) :)

Many people are saying she doesn't have to defend herself, while I agree with it, it's very helpful to some of us to hear that, even though we know her intentions are pure. When I started watching Ruby's videos I used to live in a third world country in a middle income household and wasn't as privileged, now I live in Europe and earn enough to have a lifestyle similar to ruby's and be in similar surroundings but my younger self would've loved to hear that people who are fortunate are appreciating it. I appreciate anyone who realises that because I've had both perspectives and most people only have one so it's difficult to appreciate this life when you haven't seen the lack of it, and I have respect for Ruby to realise these things. Perhaps because of Ruby I am now able to appreciate my life more than I would've if I hadn't come across her videos :)

You don’t need to explain. You are allowed to show us how you romanticize your life. I work full time, a mom and help my husband with his work and I still try and romanticize my life. There is no right or wrong way of doing it. You don’t need to say your privileged or any of that you are just doing it your way. Whoever has an issue are envious. We all tell our own stories exactly as you said and you are sharing yours. Please don’t feel the need to defend your life. It’s your life. I adore your videos.

Also if you disagree with a point it doesn’t always need to be voiced lol the amount of criticism and crap youtubers get is stupid. I really appreciate Ruby for pointing out how romanticising can be easier for some than others. It’s something important to recognise that I think we should reflect on more, particularly in autumn and winter as we enter this cost of living crisis. Thank you

Yes and also maybe romanticizing isn’t making all your life cute and pretty… I have romanticized my worst moments imagining I’m in a movie or a book, and it has helped me to overcome depression. It is extremely difficult to romanticize anything when constantly distressed due to external factors, but it is worth trying. Sometimes it helps to see myself as a book character, I feel much more empathy towards myself and realize that anything can happen in the next chapter. I think nowadays romanticizing is also coming out of the social media bubble and appreciating more mundane things and seeing beauty around you instead of expecting everything to be like in social media (=perfect).
@sc-iu1tq2 жыл бұрын
And also I think it depends on what aesthetic you’re going for. I love the dark academia and English countryside aesthetic in these videos but I live in a poor area and immigrant setting. I have learned to romanticize the immigrant hustle, social networks, thrifty mindset, crazy stories, learning about cultures, going to ethnic shops… Like Ruby says, it is more about how you perceive things than your actual surroundings.

I come from a financially non-privileged position and I always love the idea of romanticising life in a healthy manner! Like you I absolutely adore books, the nature, the Academia aesthetics, Autumn & Winter and just because I'm poor doesn't mean I cannot enjoy these things! Of course there are things that shouldn't be romanticised (e.g. illnesses - physical or mental, extreme poverty, abuse, etc.) and deserve to be dealt with immediately, but that shouldn't stop us from learning to live in the present and appreciate the things we can do for ourselves at the moment (which includes finding ways to get out of whatever bad situation we're in)! And the truth is that it's impossible for us to constantly worry about the lives of every single person in the world - I know I might sound selfish by saying this but you get the idea. Love your content Ruby and happy Autumn! 🤎🧡💛🍁🍂🌾🌼🦊🦌🦉🐿

I realised ever since I started romancizing my life I became so much happier, my everyday anxiety attacks now became only one day of a week. I appreciate people, nature so much more. I work at grocery shop, yesterday I was selling pumpkins outside of the store. Raven landed on a basket just looking around. I took picture and that made me sooo happy, later I just chatted with my coworker and appreciated that I have people to talk to, to joke around with. So even depressive looking job is much more enjoying if you are appreciating small things. I also study Geological engineering in uni, first year. And just being there makes me gratefull. I can't even make a list of how much things I am gratefull for and I think that's when I know that I am in right mindset

One thing I've noticed (and I'm not entirely proud of) is that I have a signifgantly more extensive wardrobe for the warmer months than the colder months. I think this is for two reasons 1 You sweat more when its cold so its hard to rewear things without doing laundry 2 I don't have to do very much to enjoy autumn and winter, i love my sweaters and long skirts and pants but I rewear them because they already make me feel so happy. In Spring and Summer I don't enjoy nearly as much. Final exam season always crushes me. I am also graduating this year (high school not college). I think feel like I have to overcompensate for weather and uncomfortable feelings with new clothes or more variety of them. I know this is shelfish, but it's what keeps me positive even when its not my favorite time of the year.

Her parents are rich. I live in that area and a place that big and old with acres of land is worth a million pounds and more. Possibly two. I count myself privileged but my cottage is small in comparison and we ‘only’ have two acres but I know how lucky I am. Her parents can afford for her not to earn money and pay for her to have help with the videos and to get a literary agent and probably have contacts that get her things like the tea company tie in and setting up her stationery company. I am fine with all this. Some of my best friends are this wealthy and clearly she is aware but I think it’s important to understand and emphasis just how much wealth enables her lifestyle and her possibilities. One day she may well be a famous writer and earn her way to an extent but most writers are poor, even well respected and famous authors. Only the rich can afford the arts. I’d love to know how her family grew their wealth.

I also really appreciated your disclaimer at the start speaking about how your life is easier to romanticise than maybe some other people, and how some of us are more priveledged and it made me wonder if during your year out, if you've thought of maybe working with less privileged groups like maybe volunteering to teach English to refugees or starting a reading club to read stories for children in poverty? I think romanticism doesn't play part at all in my life and in the way I am. I'm a fire sign and I'm what the esotericists (in a good way) call a choleric: I tend to point out the injustices and the negative aspects of life to pursuit change in better. I'm never for acceptance, I tend to anger and revolution. Sometimes it's hard but I do my best not to turn this feeling into something distructive, but always constructive. It's something I'm proud of and that keeps me free and conscious of the evil aspects of life, to be ready to face them and do what it's needed to make the change.

Beyond that there is just something about the connection between Elliot and ET. As he is an outsider/loner who experiences the world with many sensory difficulties. Except for his family Elliot only has one friend ET.

I think there's potential for healthy romanticization, but there's also potential to self-delude. For example if you're eating breakfast on a patio and two birds land nearby, maybe you take a moment to enjoy what's happening and think about how great it is. Surely the birds are not trying to make your morning more enjoyable, but whatever. Then there's the potential that you misread someone's motives, and think someone is doing something romantic when really they are doing something totally different.

Love this video! It’s so relaxing and autumn vibe. I appreciate it but you don’t have to explain that some lives are more difficult to romanticize. Romanticizing is all about your mindset, it’s not necessarily materialistic IMO.
