I think it's fine to not like universally adored authors like Austen, but I also think her books are super different. I didn't think much of her before I read Persuasion which is her last and less known work. It has gravity and earnestness that spoke to me on a personal level the way other books did not.

DROWSY BIRDS Limba Romana SOMNOROASE PASARELE Drowsy birds at even gliding, Round about their nests alight, In among the branches hiding... Dear, good night ! Silence through the forest creeping, Lullaby the river sighs; In the garden flowers sleeping... Shut your eyes ! Glides the swan among the rushes To its rest where moon light gleams, And the angels whisper hushes... Peaceful dreams ! O’er the sky stars without number, On the earth a silver light; All is harmony and slumber... Dear, good night ! Translated by Corneliu M. Popescu By Mihai Eminescu 1883

That’s amazing. I also like to study philosophy, currently Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, and the Bible every morning followed by a little foreign language study. Learning a little late that it is necessary to train not only your body and your intellect but also your moral principles. Setting aside time in the morning to bring your ethics to the forefront of your consciousness helps avoid unhelpful “shoot from the hip” responses to the challenges of the day ahead. I must reserve my major reading for the evening. Thanks for all your excellent videos. I must be on the right track!

You are a new fond treasure. I’m 72 years of age and listening to your topic of writing is so delightful. As a young boy watching my mother write to her siblings was the only way to communicate. She had brothers and sisters totally seven. We were very a poor family and she couldn’t afford at that time the cost off long distance calls. So her letters were multiple pages depending on which family member. One favorite sister might be eight to ten pages in length. See let me practice my reading comprehension to read them as a child. Some were not permitted for adult content. But as the year’s passed and one by one of their passing Mom continued with those who were alive. It was a delightful experience to read their correspondence. Oh the stories they would share, as if I were living in their homes. We always had family reunions once a year, since most were in different states, and when attending You felt very much caught up on every aunt, uncle and cousins, with the letters that constantly were being sent. They have all passed away, but those letters were part of my past and memories that will last forever. You have reminded me of the cherished memories of my youth. I have enjoyed listening to your in-depth knowledge of the subject. Keep up the wonderful education to all who need to reach out and connect with others.

I've found that I love watching your vlogs while folding my clothes or organising paperwork, they make chores feel so much lighter and even relaxing. Also, I really need to give a chance to Jane Austen as well, since I'm not a big fan of romance, I've been putting off reading her books for years now, perhaps that's my sign. Oh and if you like The Girl Who Couldn't Read (or even if you dislike it), I highly recommend Florence and Giles, it's the unofficial prequel and, in my opinion, much better! When you think you know what's happening, it takes a 180° turn.

I utterly adore Jane Austen, she was a genius and was so ahead of her time. Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books of all time. But you should try Persasion which is my second fsvorite and utterly wonderful. She wrote it in a race against time as she was dying from what is believeed to be Hodgekins disease ( I think). Emma is also wondewrful and one of my fsvourites.

Thank you for sharing the Oxford scenes with us. I can understand your frustration with the rain as Oxford is a walkable city, and no one likes carrying an umbrella 😅

Loved this video (as always with your Oxford videos, so scenic and moody)! Do you think you would consider making a video talking about your master's thesis? From what you've said about your course it sounds like it would be fascinating...
