I have questions! 1. When do you teach the actual concept as a whole class? 2. Where do the group rotations session fit in into the school day - what do you do/what lessons do you do before the session and after the session or do you do this the whole day?? 3. How long is the groups session in the day?

I have a question about the return of work finished and the catch up folder. #1 Do they walk to the finished work bin and highlight their name after you ring the first bell then return to their center table before you ring the second bell to rotate? #2 What if yo have two centers with turn in work? Does it get chaotic at the turn in table? #3How do you make a child accountable if they put their work in the finished bin and they didn't finish it?

Thank you! This video was very timely. I'm looking to incorporate centers into my first grade class. How long are your centers, and how do you balance your centers with whole group instruction?
@itsmoniquesworld7 жыл бұрын
Hello, Thank you for watching. My centers are 15-20 minutes long. I have a total of 6 centers but I only rotate through 3 a day. I recently changed back to this routine because of time. I tried to do all 6 in one day but I felt rushed and although I would love to meet with every guided reading group each day I think 20 minute meaningful small group time is better than 10 minutes rushed. I do centers at the end of the day after all of my whole group instruction.

Hello, how often do you change the activities in the centers? Also, it was recommended to me to introduce two centers at a time. So should I have them practice rotating for a few days and then add actual activities but enough for each student to do? Last year was my first year teaching and I really want to stream line my system. I love the bear prop for the restroom! What kind of work do you give them that would require them to finish in centers? I struggled with making my students accountable during this time. Thank you for the video, it was very helpful!
@itsmoniquesworld6 жыл бұрын
In my classroom their centers activities change daily. I practice switching through all of my centers but start off with very simple task at each center. I may have play dough at a center, blocks at another just to get the students use to rotating.

@itsmoniquesworld7 жыл бұрын
HI there, I do each center for 12-15 minutes. I changed from 6 centers to 5 about 3 weeks ago. Last year I had a larger class size so I had to have 6 centers. Having a smaller class this year allowed me to do less groups so that I could meet with the students for a longer period of time.

They typically correct it when I hand it back to them. I give their work back at the end of the day around free choice / pack up so they correct it then.
