Excellent video! I totally agree with you about stacking rewards, make your cards work for you! I'd just like to add that as you think about what credit card to get, think about your lifestyle. For people who don't travel much, a cash back card might make more sense. The money adds up quickly and when you decide to "cash out" you can use the money toward travel, shopping or maybe just your bills during a month when you need a little extra 💰. The website nerd wallet is an excellent resource for figuring out which card might work best for you. Thanks, Allison!

I use my Bank of America travel card for every purchase/bill & Ebates for any travel purchases (mostly through Expedia & Hotwire)
@Mik56885 жыл бұрын
Another "trick" that's saved me thousands - "price match guarantee" when booking directly at hotels. Often sites like Expedia/hotels.com might only be $5 cheaper, but the hotel won't just match it, they'll also give you 25% off (in some cases). There is a fine print (e.g. rate must be the same type, must be within 24 hours...), but if you book a flexible room, you can cancel it if they don't match the price (and reduce it by 25%). Particularly useful for longer stays.

Yes!!! I just followed these steps! Except, I used coupon cabin instead of Ebates because it was 5% back vs 4% (taking a last minute trip, no time to wait for Ebates @ 8%). I didn’t realize hotels. Com did the free night reward, now I’m converted from Expedia!!
@Caimille5 жыл бұрын
I should start using Ebates. I've heard about it for years but have never tried it. I love my Chase Sapphire reserved card and I also have Chase freedom (×5 points for select categories) and Chase freedom unlimited (×1.5 points for all other purchases) cards. So all the other points I earn from those cards I add to my CSR point balance and can then redeem at a better rate. I also try to remember to use the Chase portal for shopping. When I need to buy something, I check to see if I can do it through Chase and earn the extra points.

I have found that when I use Ebates on Hotels.com that it cuts into the savings I am already getting on their site. I pulled up two tabs at the same time to check this because I noticed the price of the hotel went up.
@allisonanderson5 жыл бұрын
That's strange, you should definitely be getting the same rewards, since the two companies are partnered in order to offer that cash back with Ebates. When I just tried it in my browser it didn't change the price at all, although once I clicked checkout it added the room tax, which made the price jump. But the original room price stayed the same. Is it a special listing or something?

Just wanted to be the annoying comment to tell you that 1 free night for every 10 nights is 1/11 which is 9%, not 10%. :DDD Very informative video Allison! Miss your beauty videos but great content nonetheless!
@allisonanderson5 жыл бұрын
I had that same thought before posting, because you're right 1/11 would be 9%! I think of it as 10% because you get a 10% credit from every night you book. The free night is worth the average of the 10 nights you've booked. So if you book 10 nights for $100/night, you get a free $100/night room. So the value is 10% of what you have already spent. Should have explained it that way :) Thanks for watching!

@allisonanderson5 жыл бұрын
You receive it as a credit on your account after you have made a travel charge on the card. And it doesn't have to be all at once! This year mine started off by just reimbursing me for Ubers. So the Uber charge showed up and then was refunded with the note "$300 Annual Travel Credit." Then I booked a flight which wiped the rest of it out. So easy!

I only travel max once per year, would a cash back credit card be more useful?
@SavannahSedai5 жыл бұрын
iScribblee we can only travel once a year and we do everything with credit card points for travel...haven’t paid more than a few hundred dollars for a family of 3 since 2016. All of the trips have been international except one to NYC (which ended up being $79) It’s worth it to us, we try to stay on top of any offers and not spend what we don’t have. We would love to travel more but work won’t allow it 😐
@allisonanderson5 жыл бұрын
I think it would depend on the cash back deal and how much you're putting through the card. But if you do travel once a year, you could still funnel everything through something like the Capital One Venture and it might be enough to make your annual trip close to free. One thing I like about that card is it's 2 points earnings on EVERYTHING. I feel like a lot of cash back cards only work for spending in certain categories. Might be worth doing some research to find what suits you best!
