I think the 3rd last image you showed (of what you call the abstract versions) is clearly the best (for me) - so dynamic and the light is perfectly balanced. I also want to commend your description of photography as a sequence of selections....it reminded me of the inverse description I received from an old prof. in the 80s. Speaking about design, he described a sequence of denial (the throwing away of all possibilities) - progressively you get closer to the thing by defining what it is not. I like to think both ways of thinking can coexist.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. I think the two ways of thinking can not only coexist, but actually complement each other very well. Especially in photography, where (for me at least) it's often an iterative process of what to include in the frame and what to exclude. Personally, I place more emphasis on what I want - even when making non-photographic decisions. Knowing what I don't want is a good starting point, but I believe that also finding out what I really want leads to results that best express my personality. Cheers

Enjoyed watching your self critique and be critical of your work. I think this is central to our craft and helps us create a strong body of work to share. Always enjoy your videos and your car park video especially resonated. Finding beauty in the everyday is a real joy and your work exemplifies this

Totally agree! It's not easy, can be very uncomfortable and you might have to kill your darlings during the process, but after going out at all and experimenting on location, in my opinion reflection is the third important task to develop your photography further. Cheers

Thomas... Thanks for taking the time to explain your process. My take away is your tip about the tripod. Slowing down. Even so, it's hard, sometimes, to focus on all elements of a composition. My self, I compensate by purposely framing loosely in camera and drilling down to my final composition in post. Really enjoy your minimal presentations. Please drop in with your commentary from time to time.

Hi, I'm glad you enjoy both types of videos! I also like to give subjects more space - especially when doing architecture shots without a shift lens, to be able to correct the vertical lines in post without cropping the subject to death - because I'm also more focussed in front of the computer. Unfortunately, camera positioning can't be changed in post and sorting out those lines, shapes and relationships between different elements of the composition has to be done on location. Cheers

Hi Thomas, thank you for the video and the explanation of how you make certain choices. What I personally like in your videos is that you make a conscious choice between storage, portfolio and printing. I fully agree with the comment about using a tripod. It puts you in a flow where you are more concentrated. Perhaps a nice tip that often helps me is to put on music. Strangely enough, with music I often see things differently during both photographing and editing in Lightroom.

Thanks for letting me know your thoughts and your tip. I tried with music, but for me it adds an additional distraction level which confuses me more than it helps. However for video creation I once want to turn things around and choose music bevor filming (and listen to it while doing it) instead of searching for suitable music during editing. Cheers

Interessanter Einblick in Dein Auswahlprozess.
