Getting old now so my last cup of tea is just before I pack away my tools. I sit on my tool box and write myself a one paragraph note telling me what I need to do the next day and a shopping list. As the van warms up in the morning I have another cuppa and I read my love letter from "yesterday me" and it works an absolute treat. I still fuck up, but on the smaller things.

Forgive me for asking but, shouldn't the breathable membrane be fitted on to counter batons to provide an air gap between the blocks and the membrane, instead of directly onto the block walll ?
@thetallcarpenter13 күн бұрын
Hi there🖐The membrane is fitted behind the battens to allow ventilation to the back of the cladding👍Cheers Del
@Dubjaxfilms13 күн бұрын
@@thetallcarpenter I thought there needed to be ventilation both between the block wall and between the cladding, hence the use of counter batons

When I fix buttons, I usually use a frame fixing screw 50 mil long it just cuts putting a plug-in and speeds the process up and it bites a lot more into the timber and brickwork hope you don’t mind me saying this cause you’re obviously very experienced 👍
@thetallcarpenter14 күн бұрын

I is 65mm galvanised roofing nails. Not gun nails anymore and hammer by hand it pulls the feather edge boards in much better using a hammer. 👍🔨

I use a gauge rod and a similar set up. Once you set out once you can just fix. No different than doing bricks or blocks. You use a nice big nail like me. I was watching Clevett putting up similar board on his video. I kept looking at the gun he was using. Finish nails. I asked him and he replied. 18 gauge stainless pins. Never heard of such a thing. I know where I live now they specify a headed nail and a minimum size in mm. Didn't get 18 gauge pins.
@thetallcarpenter14 күн бұрын
Hi Dave🖐Everyone does things different I guess🤔and like you, I prefer a meaty nail for fixing thus cladding💪Thanks for watching mate🤩
@shizzleinthenizzle4 күн бұрын
shouldnt you be using stainless rather than galv del ? staining ?
@thetallcarpenter4 күн бұрын
Hi there🖐I've never felt it necessary to use SS🤔Electro Galved don't tend to rust especially if the boarding is stained regularly👍Cheers
@shizzleinthenizzle4 күн бұрын
@ galv paslode defo give black streaks over time on featheredge. Not sure about the painted though. 👍
@thetallcarpenter4 күн бұрын
On raw timber cladding like oak, cedar or larch, I WOULD use stainless steel fixing, as you are quite right about staining👍

I would have made an upside down t batten to the gauge and just held it to the bottom of the board below then sat the next board on top and nailed it,like when you nail feather edge boarding on a fence.
@thetallcarpenter14 күн бұрын
Hi Barry🖐I do normally use a gauge stick similar to what you describe🤔but as this is only small runs, I went with marking it out to the top of each course instead👊Thanks for your comment and for watching 😎 Cheers Del
