Changing the shape of the nails is possible (sometimes) by skilfully and gently adjusting the sides to make them grow more even. Somehow wearing polish helps in this case to make the nails less flat and extend the nail bed.

I have the same "shovel shaped" nails and in the last 5 years they've become prone to splitting or peeling. I've watched other videos in this channel and learned buffing and hardeners or strengthening products are the exactly wrong things to do. Now I have hope I can eventually have a pretty oval shape, too. 🥰

Meanwhile, I never even thought that there was anything wrong with how my nails looked until videos like this told me that there was. I always loved painting them. Personally, I won't bother. Too much filing, which I hate, and it looks like you need to keep some length on your nails for this to work which doesn't work with my lifestyle. Tried it, and they just trap dirt and snag on things. Glad this is helping other people out but it just sucks how insecure women have to be about every little thing that doesn't fit some beauty standard.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU I watched this about 3/4 months ago and bought a little nail kit to do this. It's somehow cemented into my night routine to fix up my nails after i wash my face. Also miraculously the fact that my nails don't snag or chip anymore has completely removed my bad habit of biting them. The tips of my fingers used to flare out, I always hated my hands because of this. Turns out it was my nails all along! I only have one finger that still has a bit of that flare, but that is also the finger nail i have now noticed grows much slower then the rest. For the first time in my life i like looking at my hands. I didn't realize the flare also made them look shorter, they look just a bit slimmer now too! Again, thank you. Being able to shirk an insecurity like that so quickly and with such an easy fix is a gift. (i'm like actually tearing up) thank you

I have worn false nails for nigh on 25yrs as my own nails are paper thin (my mum & a lot of her family are the same) I am at the point now that I cannot have my own natural nails as the feeling without them is alien to me & they are still so soft & papery that I cannot file them without them ripping & they won’t grow nicely. I’ve recently learned how to do BIAB & 3 weeks ago I gave up the false nails, I have fan nails too & now after watching your videos on how to shape them along with the builder gel coat on them I actually have nice natural looking nails that are strong & dare I say quite pretty 💅🏻 I’m also treating my cuticles better & pushing them back gently with remover & not trimming them & also using a little oil on them daily, all of this has helped with the overall shape of my nails & has helped them look less fanned out. Many thanks for your advice ❤

Thank you for sharing how you helped change the shape of your client's nails. It really does take time and there are no miracle fast cures or changes. I learned a lot from your channel, from advice on helping get your nails healthier. 💎 I stopped biting and chewing my nails around March 2023 after 50 years, and it has taken until December for me to go longer than 2 weeks without a nail breaking. I keep them polished and always use base coats, I file them with a glass / crystal file once a week, I use cuticle oil and lotion constantly, and I still have peeling on two of my nails (but instead of all 10!). Next, now it's cold out, will be to try warm jojoba soaks and see how that might help. The weirdest part is relearning how to type! I could always type with my fingertips and never touch my nails to the keys until now. 😅

Everyone's nails are so different. My nails are hard and curl down on both sides, I had to shape tip of my nails flat so my nails would look like elongated squares rather than triangles if I had shaped the tips like yours. And it does make it easier for me, just cut the tips straight across, no filings needed. My nails seem to stay strong, as long as I don't apply nail polishes or go to nail salons that seem to easily damage and weaken the nails.

These look a lot like my natural nails. I have fanned out nails and I also have eggshell nails that bend and fold and tear like paper. Finally, I have nails that grow unevenly so that they grow faster on one side of the nail than the other and they try to form a sideways oval. I also have very thick sidewalls/calluses, especially where I used to have a periungual wart. I want pretty manicures so much but my skin around the nail is so thick and overgrown compared to healthier nail borders that I can seem to keep up. When I get acrylics, the acrylics even grow out unevenly on a few nails. To me, I use that as a sanity check that my nails really do grown unevenly to a noticeable degree. PLEASE HELP in any way you can.

@Saphindra
@Saphindra Жыл бұрын
if you are using any products with nail hardeners in it, stop using them (sometimes they are included in base coats). They often make the nails too brittle. Using Jojoba oil on your nails a regular basis is a better option, as it makes the nails grow stronger while maintaining their natural flexibility. If you have naturally thick nails, they have less flexibility because of the thickness, but if you are not using any hardeners they should still have enough natural flexibility to not break. @@DebbieK1107

I 100% know this isn't fake. I didn't even know I had nails that are fanning out until I had to file down my entire free edge (my nails were a bit brittle after removing fake nails and broke off during work where my hands get wet all the time) and start over. I let them grow naturally without any manicure and was a bit shocked that they would start to fan out. I had to re-shape them later and could literally see how the skin around the nails changed its shape. I always thought I had the same nail shape as my mom, but it's really a combination of my mom's small nail bed and my dad's nails (which are fanning out too). How did I not know? Well, I always intuitively did my manicure similar to what you did on your client. And I had started at a very young age. Prior to this, my mom had done it for me. She never just cut my nails, she always filed and shaped them too as soon as it was possible.

Should I trim my nails in the way shown in the video and I will get results? How many times a week? Please reply

Actually I was doing this some times unknowingly but I didn’t do it in routine. But I also sometimes thought after doing this filing if I force them to be on sides by putting some bandages or bandaid to force them into that shape, but never tried😅

My grandma is in hospice and one of the aides does her nails for her but she makes them fan out and not oval and they grow out a little and cut into her skin around the nails and are very painful and we have to file them to be more oval.

I am trying to do this for my boyfriend's fan shaped nails. The problem i am experiencing is he has short nail beds, separation of the nail bed that goes straight across so the white of the nail is long even without passing the tip of the finger. We want to keep his nails short with a clean appearance, so i have bought him a nail brush and asked him to not scrape under the white of the nails to clean because we are trying to encourage the nail bed to lengthen while shaping it into ovals. I dont want to cut that white off back to the nailbed because its so far. Advice welcome.

Tell him not to cut his nails at all. I think if he files them once a week to maintain a certain length then they will reattach on their own

This is incredible. My nails are just like that. I’m going to take your advice and aim to emulate what you did. In your filing are you filing back and forth? I was told you’re only supposed to file one direction repeatedly. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Hello! Thank you for putting out all the useful content! I did DIY on my toe nails with your routine and it came out amazing! After watching this video, I have a question on how to do the opposite… my finger nails are naturally curved inwards on the sides. I noticed that it’s less curved right after a shower when my nails are moist and softer. Even if I applied cuticle oil and lotion, after a while, it started to from the curve again. How could I make them more fanned out and less curved? Thank you!

Now that i watch your explanation, it make sense why my left index finger nail on is prettier and longer.. I unconsciously cut my nail in curve for that finger which made it eventually appear longer than other nails. Other nails more like cup shape bcs i cut it straight

This is amazing!!! Thank you, Anna. I have been following your advice for a couple of years, and my peeling, bendy nails are finally looking healthy and feeling stronger. (Jojoba oil is a miracle oil worker!). My nails are all very different shapes, many of them triangular 😂 I assumed that the shape could not be changed, but this video proves otherwise. ❤ Now that they are healthy and that I have established a manicure routine (all thanks to your advice and guidance), I am going to think about the shape. This video will help enormously. Out of interest, Anna, do you offer online appointments in which you could guide and teach people how to shape their own nails? I know you offer your advice service with sending in pictures but I just wondered if you offer live calls too?
@TheSalonLife

Hi Lucy! I have tried live calls and it’s difficult because most people don’t have the set up for me to actually see what they are doing. Most people have hard time to take pictures that are bright enough and clear enough for me to see what’s going on with their nails. I think I’m going have to start in person classes :)) These are the best :))

I know that you recommend using a buffing block for smoothing out after filing. But what should be the grit, and is the grit the same between different materials, or does it only apply to the "sandpaper" files, not glass, metal etc. (I never seem to see any reference to grit on files that aren't the emery board kind)? I was looking for some buffers and they were like 100-120 grit, just like a regular file! That seems too rough for buffing the nails! But also if it's the same as a file, it can't exactly give you a smoother finish. On the other end are the two-sided flat shiners, like 400/3000. Which is also not the best fit for this purpose. So I'm assuming something like 200 or 300 should be fine? But it's not a popular choice for the buffing blocks, I have trouble finding any that "high"!
@TheSalonLife
@TheSalonLife Жыл бұрын
Hello there :) Thank you for writing! Yes the grit is the same but buffers are more gentle because they have the "bend", they "give" and they don't put a lot of pressure on the nail plate. I recommend 220 or 300 grit but some buffers that are 180 are good too. These are the ones I use: Gold Buffing Block amzn.to/3p2EooJ Gold buffing block amzn.to/3LagbY0
