Here in the USA we have access to various dimensional sizes (1/2"-2" diameter) of PVC conduit which is purchased at any hardware store. Depending on the diameter of the hook on a knife I use an 8 inch long piece of PVC, cut it length wise in half, sand the edges and then glue sand paper to the outside and or inside of the pipe. It works for both sides of the hook knife blade and keeps the bevel symmetrical along its entire blade length. This works for me.

Beautiful! The most important skill for every carver is this: to put a good edge on the blades. When your tools are sharp you are happy. I love to maintain my blades. Love sharpening, strop and do all the honing. Also I love to try different materials for made my strops and also use different compounds. Beautiful video! I wish you happy carving!

Lovely job, now that's what you call SHARP. my hook knife is not quite that sharp but, now I've seen how sharp your's is, I will try again and hopefully it will become as sharp as yours. Cheers Les.

With the mora hook knife it is almost impossible to really flatten the surface without catching the sand paper, and the next time you will sharpen it you will round it again, there is no other way around. The solution is to grind the inside with a dremel, there is a video about this on zed outdoor channel. Hope it helps !

Get yourself a couple of wooden hand screw clamps. Glue some crubber, cork, or leather to the inside surfaces. You'll never stop finding uses for them.

When you have gotten it as sharp as you think is good take a piece of soft wood, my favorite is yellow cedar, and put a dab of metal polish on it and polish the edge, in both directions until you start to get fine skims of wood. This is very good for shaped chisels and knives because you can cut the profile into the wood and then add some polish. I keep the wooden block beside me and touch up my edge often. Look for an old wooden clamp with the two screws to hold your knife. It lays flat and can be clamped to the table easily and securely. When I see a big burr like that tells me it is of inferior quality or tempering and get rid of it because it will not hold an edge for long. If you try this it will feel like you have broken through a sharpness wall and you will not consider your past knives sharp anymore.
