Angelo Pietro's was a restaurant on Oahu. They originated in Fukuoka, Japan and served Japanese Italian fusion food. Definitely unique and so delicious! And those sauces were what drew you to the restaurant. They sold it inside the restaurant also. They closed in 2023, but they still sell the sauces in stores and online.

I like this video! I lived in Japan for two years in the 70's. This store reminds me of a Japanese store i used to go to only it was much smaller. Your information about the products is right on the mark - keep it up.

My friend, don't buy tonkatsu sauce, make your own at home, all you need is ketchup, worcesters sauce, shoyu, and sugar, and to put you in the ballpark, 1/2 cup ketchup, 1-2 TBLS Worcesters sauce, 2-3 TBLS shoyu and a slight heaping tsp of sugar. Combine everything into a small bowl and mix, taste and modify to your taste and adjust to your liking! Enjoy my friend! Btw, I live in Hawaii!🤙😃

I don’t think Pieteo originated in Hawaii but we do have majority of the Asian items your showing here in Hawaii. We have a very big Japanese influence here since plantation days so alot of the cuisine here is Japanese “local” or local style food which is mixed ethnicity foods.

In Chinese cooking, light/regular soy sauce is for flavouring/seasoning and dark soy sauce is more for the colour (it has sodium, but less than the light/regular soy sauce). So yes, some dishes use both types of soy sauce. When you make steamed or pan-fried Chinese dumplings (pot-stickers), I would suggest dipping it in black vinegar. For soup dumplings, they can be topped with thinly julienned ginger and dipped in black vinegar or some people like to soak the ginger in the black vinegar first before eating it with the soup dumplings dipped in black vinegar. Some people like to add soy sauce and/or chili oil into the black vinegar & ginger dipping sauce. I prefer to have it without the soy sauce. I prefer to taste the dumpling without being over-powered by soy sauce, so black vinegar and julienned ginger is a good balance bc the black vinegar has a mild subtle flavour profile. Usually the meat filling in dumplings are already salted or may have soy sauce in it anyway, and soup dumplings are already salty too. Actually, black vinegar is somewhat like the Chinese version of Worcestershire sauce to me.

Dark soy sauce actually has more salt but the saltiness is tempered by the flavor so it tastes less salty.

Never dip soup dumplings or potstickers into soy sauce. That’s a no-no. I only dip shrimp dumpling and sui mai into soy sauce but only lightly dip.
@wctoronto
@wctoronto 3 ай бұрын
@@lt5466 I personally don’t but some people do. It’s a matter of personal taste/preference not necessarily a ‘rule’. Generally, black vinegar is the more recommended sauce. Some people use red vinegar instead of black.

@@davidmasaoka8455 Interesting, I didn’t know the saltiness is ‘masked’ in dark soy sauce. Looked it up and I found different conflicting information. Some say dark soy sauce has more sodium and others say the light soy sauce is saltier. I can tell the dark has a slight sweetness to it (also a bit thicker in consistency), where light soy sauce mainly has umami flavour. Which ever the case, just based on taste alone, light soy sauce is saltier.
