@@JeniseSpiteri First thing: "sidecountry" is a term used to describe backcountry areas that can be accessed via a ski resort but are out of bounds of said ski resort, it does not mean the terrain is any less dangerous or requires less expertise and gear to ski/ride there. Second thing: This appears to be a very low-angle hill and (although I am not familiar with it and cannot be certain there is no avalanche terrain here) it does not seem from this video that any of this is avalanche terrain. This is basically a sledding hill which is why you haven't seen anyone with avi gear there... If you like riding here thats fine, but just know that it isn't "sidecountry" it is a low-angle, very small backcountry hill. Hope this clears things up.
@JeniseSpiteri
@JeniseSpiteri 5 жыл бұрын
@@therestwheretaken You're right on the "sidecountry" thing. It's next to Mt. Rose ski resort but not accessible from the resort. And yes it was very low angle (20-25 degrees) and you can see when I rode that it wasn't that deep so I was very very safe without the equipment. Hence me getting annoyed with the 1000 comments freaking out on me for not having a beacon.

Super low pitch so I’m not too worried about the lack of beacon probe shovel. But she seems timid riding powder (look how straight her legs are and how she kicks turns instead of bending the knees and leaning into them) and she definitely shouldn’t have been alone. Even the best of us can get stuck head first in a tree well or sent flying by a hidden rock and break bones/ damage organs. These situations don’t have to be life ending- all you have to do is go with a friend and keep an eye out for each other. Please please please ride with a buddy next time. Also snow shoes and a backpack to carry your board are affordable and will make hiking much more enjoyable.

Bruh why would you assume the date it was filmed? On my first video of the year I said I had two videos I had already filmed and hadn't posted. This was like that day after Christmas or something. And you can't assess avalanche danger by watching a KZbin video. However, I was there in real life and could make an assessment myself. I assessed that on a 20° slope, with a 1 foot base and 7 inches of week old or more snow, there was a -1000% of an avalanche. Thanks for your concern, but I know what I'm doing.

@@JeniseSpiteri as a KZbinr with 15k subscribers I think you can and should show a better example specially if you know what you are doing; You have the power of being very influential! We as viewers don't see the behind the seen, all we see the lack of basic safety equipment like helmet so you have less injuries if you hit a tree or snow goggles so you don't get snow blindness, or using waterproof clothing so you don't get wet and get hypothermia or frostbite. So what happens when your viewers that are less experience than you sees that you don't have any of this safety things they may think that it is ok to go into the backcountry without it since maybe they can't afford it and than they may go into a 20° slope but don't realize that the steeper slope next to them is very unstable and could brake and hit them. I get it that you can't be responsible for people lack of responsibility but you can be the example. Everyone that is going to the backcountry should go to a AIARE Avalanche Lev.1 training because even on blue sky day on low angle terrain there are always risks. SO let us all be safer out there, use appropriate clothing, have, use and know how to use our our safety equipment and have a blast in the backcountry and return home to our loved ones!!

Jenise Spiteri Haha, yeah, of course. Some people consider asking someone out for a drink harassment, so I was kind of joking. Nice powder find. Wide open bluebird. Mammoth is going to rule next few days!
