One overlooked tip is that YOU WON'T CATCH AN EDGE ON A FLAT BOX. It's natural to go heelside when turning in the snow, but it'll make you eat it on the box! Just gotta commit to getting that board flat. Hope this helps.

In the beginning what you were trying to teach him was the "counter rotation" method. When you get on a box when you first start out, you have to turn your upper body in the opposite direction of your lower body, the counter rotation will keep you stable and stop you from slipping out. You can see him clearly doing this at 1:49

Do you have to worry about digging your front edge and face planting? I always thought you needed to be on the back edge so you don't catch the front. We did not have any boardparks in the early 90's so we just built jumps but I am taking my kids riding for the first time this year and want to be able to give the best advice I can.
@jordanlowe8515 Жыл бұрын
Actually if youre on your heel edge at all you will slip out onto your butt. I'm learning this trick right now. Your base has to be totally flat on the box. No edge! You won't catch your toe edge. Don't lean back at all . Even weight and flat base.
@TheAsciiadam Жыл бұрын
@@jordanlowe8515 Thanks!

To be honest, the actual and main problem I faced when I started sliding on a box (next step is sliding a rail) is that you MUST NOT USE your edge, because as soon as you use the edge, even if you use a little of it, your ass or your face is already beating the box. And there is a big difference preparing to slide on the slope, as shown at the beginning of the video, because on a slope you always use edges, at least a little. SO, for me, the most effective excercise I experienced was trying to slide in the slope, basckside or frontside, but trying to not use the edge, so with EXTREMELY FLAT board ot the ground. So, before to augment the difficulty of the excercise, for example increasing speed, be sure to be on a box WITHOUT USING EDGES.

actually with more speed you get more weight forward than onto the rail when falling, so in a way you won't impact the rail as much as if you would if you have slow speed so higher speed can be good, + it gives momentum and smoother feeling
