Great video, Rob. Thank you so much. You are a gentleman and a scholar. And I hope your book(s) have sold many thousands more since this video.

I know this is an older vid, but thanks for this! This is one of the more down-to-earth videos I've seen on this subject. I've seen so many "How I sold X many copies" from people who already have *massive* social media followings. This was a lot more helpful!

I realize this vid is like 6 years old, but I'm just finding this now as I'm ramping up to release my second novel, and in addition to what I've already learned from the first, this really helped a lot. Thanks Rob, cheers to your success in the future.

I'm liking your videos writer guy! My way of saying thanks for your time with these videos this time was to share a link to your Book Page to my small FB friends and followers today. Maybe some of those crazy b*stards will get a few copies. Thanks again for doing these! Good luck! (yes, I see this was from 2015 :) )

Again, I found your input exactly what I need. Great boost and speed-up for me. I will go through your list of recommended web sites and try. Very helpful. How about getting 10,000 books out there and sharing how you did it?! I would LOVE to hear that how you even get started on that one.

how do you send the reviewers your book before the launch date? is there an option or code for that on Amazon? Or do just line up reviewers and give them a free copy on launch date?
@RobDircks4 жыл бұрын
As you're editing your manuscript and getting it ready for final, output an .epub, .mobi, and .pdf file, and offer your advance readers their choice of format. If your word processing application doesn't have epub/mobi/pdf as export options, you can send your text document to something like Calibre (free) and output the file formats from there. (And don't worry too much about getting formatting perfect, the folks reading advance copies are very understanding about that. Good luck!

Looking to get my audio book out there, but little concerned with Audibles contract. Did you have any concerns on their control of your product distribution? Great video by the way :)
@RobDircks7 жыл бұрын
ACX (who distributes your audiobook through Amazon/Audible/iTunes) is great. Totally straightforward, you have no distribution hassles to worry about. My only negative is that you don't have any control over pricing.

Amazon guidelines forbid giving reviewers anything (including a free book) in exchange for review. I know, I know, it's done all the time. Just saying...and it completely sucks that they cut off virtually all avenues an author has to get their books reviewed.
@RobDircks7 жыл бұрын
Hi dvnobles - yes, agreed, and as others have said this video is from 2015, so the rules were more lax then. But I think there's still a way to work within Amazon's rules without "cheating." Here are Amazon's latest guidelines: "You may provide free or discounted copies of your books to readers. However, you may not demand a review in exchange or attempt to influence the review." I think the key words in there are DEMAND and INFLUENCE. SO... what I've been seeing from reviewers of my books lately is a disclaimer in the review to the effect of "I was given a free copy of this book. I was not required to leave this review. It's my honest, unbiased opinion." So when I ask for reviews now, I'm very clear that it would be nice if they could leave a review, but they are NOT required to, and if they decide to leave a review, they should include that little disclaimer at the bottom.
@dvnobles7 жыл бұрын
Yes, that sounds like a reasonable way to do it. Win/win. Great video, btw.

Actually you can give away your book for free in exchange for a review. However, when the review is written, the person must clearly state something along the lines of "I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review."
@dannobles42994 жыл бұрын
@@TheHeartofjackie True. But you can't make it mandatory that they post a review.
