How I Solo Start in Kenshi | Zero Mining

The TLDR of this video goes like this:
1.) Make 10,000 cats and join the Shinobi
2.) Head to Rot (or any other swamp town), and bodyguard job on the wandering Shinobi Assassin
3.???
4.) Do this until bored/geared up/combat skills in the mid-20s to 30s, with attributes to match.
Save yourself however long this video turned out--or, don't, and watch me get my leg ripped off by a damn blood spider.

I am proud to be the only Kenshi player who enjoys mining early game. Maybe because I only do around 1 playthrough a year, I like to enjoy the start and not rush to mid-game. One of the more unique experiences is living in an NPC town.

This is a good strategy. I think a better strategy for a truly new player would be to take a breath, and then ignore most everything they've heard about mining. Don't spend 4 hours real-time doing it. Just fill up a copper resource node once or twice, that's it. That should be enough to get you some gear and new friends from one of the local bars. Unless you are going for a solo only run, getting a squad of 4 together will greatly increase your life expectancy, and general enjoyment. You'll spend a lot of time watching your solo character unconscious in the dirt without someone to swoop in and do first aid, which isn't fun when you still aren't even fully sure what's going on.

Wow what a starter strategy! Less than two weeks in and already missing a leg! Now to find a way to get rid of the other 3. Actually I THINK you can use a character who is missing a leg to rapidly train up toughness.

My recent start was as a trader. Thought I'd scavenge for a while but steal some food first. Saw numbers fly outside of town and found 7 dead garrus. That got me thieves guild access along with the unique companion in the bar. Of course, I had to do a little thieving and before I know it, I'm spending a day picking locks. Seeing that I'm a trader it wouldn't be right not to go rob the trade guild. That got me 9 leviathan pearls among other things which I sold to the thieves to remove the stolen tag, bought them back, sold them to easy to steal from shops and stole them back again. I'm now two weeks in with a group of 14 and still have 6 of those pearls. Don't know how many times I've "sold" them. They also served as weight training.

That's one of the things that keeps Kenshi so replayable: those little interactions that cannot be planned for, spiraling out into who knows where.

I almost always end up as a mining/industrial settlement when I play Kenshi I get so caught up in managing production that I never bother exploring the world

I find that's one of the many beauties of Kenshi. You could ask a hundred people how they play, and you're likely to get just about as many answers--with some overlap, of course. End of they day, we're all about the crab.

You could pull Tora the Fearless into the waystation nearby. Let the guards take her down and claim the bounty. 10k within 10 minutes. Or get a traders backpack and 2k. Get some (non hiver) mercenaries and go find a beakthing nest. These methodes carry some risk especially the 2nd one but it got me to 130k in 5 days without sneaking and stealing

I'm sure everyone has their favorite kind of start. I'm always looking for new/interesting ways to solo start, myself. I've just always found that to be reliable with the static loot spawns, and it always puts me in a good place--so long as I don't go losing limbs to blood spiders.

My first ever playthrough was a no mine playthrough i didnt even know that thats what everyone seems to just default to lmao. I grinded stealth in the hub for a bit, leveling lockpicking wasnt all that necessarry since most buildings can still be picked it just takes a while. Then i just started robbing places.The hub is actually a kind of OP start for a thief, since you can just go backwards and forwards between squin and stack and just sell all your stolen goodies no issue in the hub on the way. No fence needed. Got caught a couple of times because of low stealth, but earned enough to get a pack animal which was the gamechanger. Completely rinsed the armory in squin of all its good stuff, and invested the money into becoming a trader. Also a drug smuggler, allegedly, so some people have claimed. No comment..

when stealth breaks, you need to run...it means youve been fully detected.

If you quickly run behind some terrain and sneak again you can usually lose them. Unless text is popping up like with manhunters then they'll laser focus onto you no matter if you hide again

I feel like your early attempt of explaining how to get easy quick cats to begin with is pretty core, depending on where you are, you can always sell peasant farmers to the UC after stealing all their loot and selling that separate, looting bandits that decide to attack squin or as you train athletics and stealth, sell Heavy and Prince heads in Mongrel, scavenging, whilst fun to explore, I find isn't as quick and as reliable as the methods I've suggested, especially head selling at Mongrel, don't even need to kill any of them, just chill outside the front and inspect the dead.

easier 10k would be to go to the exile camp below squin and turn in Tora for the 10k bounty. just run her to the waystation and let them take her out.

On the start just go sneak and walk inside the hub perimeter to one side all the way to the other side at games max speed, this takes like 30 secconds and you level stealth way more than you did pass 5 minutes in the vid, then you can just run normaly the entire time and reach things faster and just sneak when necessary.

What's wrong with mining? It is easy money without paying much attention while you can watch KZbin videos at the same time. Then you can recruit over 18 NPCs in 10 days in 3 major cities, just by mining. LOL
