I think it's very cool, if not a bit chaotic, that you sort alphabetically regardless of genre with all the records that you have ahaha. I sort my records into three categories: Rock/Pop/RnB on one shelf, Jazz and Classical on another and Comedy/Spoken Word on the final shelf. It can be a fun process when you get more records and it's time to reorganise. My CDs, however, are an unorganised mess, will need to get round to that at some point.

Great library Kenny. I like to keep my listening area separate to my library. So I can have aisles in the room 🙂

I have too many records and gave up having to move huge numbers of albums around, every time I filled up a particular cube of records. So now, I put a number in each record outer sleeve. Then I have every album put in a database. Artist, Album Name, Year, Genre, Label Name and notes (if it’s still sealed, autographed, a gatefold etc.) This way, when I get a new stack of records, I just number them, put them in the database and add them in the next empty shelf. It has saved me weeks of my life and I know exactly where every record is.

Wow nice collection! I have my records like this: In separate sections I have boxsets, Phase 4/Command label, jazz/fusion, various artists compilations, soundtracks, comedy, 12" singles, non-music (train sounds, sound effects, speeches etc.) Everything else A-Z except Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix and KISS are pulled out in their own sections. Most of the records are in one room together, except for the section of new/used/sealed records that I have not got to yet and they get filed in once I listen to them. My stereo is in the room next to the record room (dining room) and my speakers are in the record room (living room).

So many choices! I have a jazz section in an old console cabinet. On top of that is the turntable and equipment. Then a second nicely built cabinet houses my ultimate favorite rock and pop records in alphabetical order. These are all in the living room where the system is. Then my office has 2x8 kallax cubes. I need to buy another 4 cubes to put my need to sell records (overflow)... My cds, dvds, and laserdiscs are all in a closet kind of like yours. It's a constant battle between listening to and enjoying what I have and wanting to buy more! Thanks for your videos!

Amazing collection of records an CDs. I could spend hours, no days, flipping through the records and CDs you have. I wish you were on the Steve Hoffman Forum because I have shared pictures of the evolution my record library on there. I don't feel comfortable sharing publicly here on KZbin. My record library is probably the thing I am proudest of in regards to this hobby. Yes I love my system even more, but the average person can't really appreciate it the way they can appreciate and enjoy my record library. I will try to describe... For 35 years of my marriage our Living Room and Dining Room were neutral turf. We agreed that none of our hobbies could be visible in those rooms. My record collection was stored in the Master Bedroom that served as my office and listening room. I liked this room to be clean and sleek so the LPs were stored in the clothes closet in here. I kept them behind the closet doors in a 4x4 Kallax cube. They were organized into two categories: Collections A-Z and Artists A-Z. My box sets A-Z were on the top shelf of the closet. This was not convenient because I was often reflowing the collection as cubes filled to bursting. I eventually had piles of overflow LPs along the walls of my listening room. In 2021, In desperation, I proposed to my wife that I have one 4x2 high Kallax Shelf centered under our Living Room window. It would not require the moving of any furniture and would look natural there. To my GREAT surprise she agreed. I moved my Jazz LPs out there and put record related books on top. I made it look nice. My wife loved it and I found I had created a monster. She kept asking where we could integrate more Kallax cubes. I am a retired architect so the aesthetics were more important to me than her. She kept asking for more cubes. I didn't really need more at first but I struck while the iron was hot. I left room for growth and split my collection over time into genres. The Kallax being modular helped and eventually I am up to 10 Kallax units and 10 genres now with sub genres in each for boxes and collections. So Rock Collections A-Z and Rock A-Z, Jazz Collections A-Z and Jazz A-Z. Classical Collections A-Z and Classical A-Z ... etc. I created a custom popup in my Discogs to tell me where I filed all my LPs so I could find ones that span several genres. The cubes are all 2x high so they are lower than the windows and furniture. I display box sets and vinyl related boxes of top. I have all of my LPs in high quality .4 mil outer sleeves and .4 mil gatefold outer sleeves from Vinyl Storage Solutions of Canada. I have A-Z divider cards for albums in each of the 10 categories. The final touch was last month I installed 2" high engraved plastic signs on the shelves describing the genres. Visitors to our house gravitate towards this area often without asking. They just start browsing through their favorite genres. We never used to sit in the Living Room unless we were entertain company, My wife now she calls it the Record Library and loves to sit in that room now because she says it is so full of life and color. Honestly Kenny I sometimes wonder if aliens came and kidnapped my wife.

Kenny: My mind is still boggled by your amazing collection of LPs. I could see myself going in there and disappearing to the point where people would have to send food in. Visiting a record store or listening room like yours is like going to a museum of art and culture. These art museums display 12"x12" pieces of art which displays idealized versions of where the people saw their countries culture in the past, present and future. Trying to comment on this and other videos you've posted has resulted in a sea of words from me. To make things easier to actually visualize, I made and posted my first YT video on my channel. I've been a member since 2012 and used my channel solely to view other peoples videos. I finally saw the need to replace just other people's videos. I invite you to drop by and view it and share any comments you might have.

I have enjoyed your video and now subscribed.I find that the best way to enjoy ones albums is to make them accessible for themself.I am lazy and if I can't get to it then I won't listen,so I rearranged my collection to make it easier for me.I love your set up area,it is very efficient and this works for you.I may add that if you are like me,I will tweak things and retweak as needed and it is also fun.I watch videos for ideas.I have a much smaller area but I am very satisfied to have such a rewarding hobby and grateful. You rock, thank you for sharing Kenny.

I sort mine, by how far I believe, that the LP can fly. Dynagrooves are among the worst as they are light. Some of the ones from the early 50's are thick. My kids love to fly them and have won a couple of frisbie contests with them.

I confess, my CDs are all simple alphabetized with the exception of Christmas music that is separated. My records are in order of - what I played most to least recently. LOL. It's a total mess! I keep meaning to put it in order! I promise I'll do it some day soon!! LOL

I alphabetize my LPs by name as well. I don't alphabetize within that by album title, however. And it goes by last name in the case of a solo artist. Same wit CDs. DVDs/BDs aren't alphabetized at all; the BDs are kept separate and that's it. I might alphabetize them all someday and still keep the BDs together.

I alphabetize my collection by genre. It makes it a lot easier to scan what I have when I'm in the mood for a certain type of music.

Great Topic ! It is good you have Sealed Records in your collection ! I have my most played Albums on CDs ! Listening and watching the You Tube videos I now listen to different Music including Jazz for example. My own collection is a number of records to play, about 100 Random Access and I forget the rest I own ! The ones I don't play are in some sort of order. Van Morrison beside Van Halen, Irish Music beside Dutch Music. The Record Plant will always have more new albums than a record shop which it going to be bigger than a private collection. The only thing I can add is : I would buy more new records and they have always been gift/present product to spend your money on if there was a Hype Sticker "Recird Not Cleaned At The Record Pressing Plant". Condition and Market Prices helps me decide what Records I should add to my collection. UK Nimbus SuperCut Records should be better than Mint and The Beatles Stereo Please Please Me Parlophone Gold should be good + at best. If the UK Nimbus Supercut pressing is beat up and The Beatles Stereo Please Please Me Parlophone Gold looks new and not a 1963 64 Album, keep them in a box in the garage for another day. Great Topic !

Alphabetical and in release order. However if I buy any reissues I put these in with the original release just to keep things tidy. My cd's are the same. It's a monumental pain in the arse moving vinyl down to accommodate the new records but it satisfies my CDO.

Honestly i just sort them randomly, in a way. They go by now often I listen to them. But I do group artists and groups together. I have the new remaster of Revolver so even though I haven't been listening to my other Beatles records lately, they are grouped towards the front of my crate with Revolver. Same with Beyoncé's new album. Hadn't listened to Lemonade in months, but because i got her new album and it's been rotating constantly, Lemonade is grouped to the front with it. I can tolerate not having the artists in alphabetical order and I'm okay with not organizing by genre, but the artist or group have to have all of their albums grouped together, in the order they were released.

@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews I would tend to agree. I don't have nearly as many as you. I have my main crate that has what I listen to the most, it holds about 80 depending on if there are double albums or whatnot, that sits on a table that has a mini crate that I keep my most listened to 7 inch records in. I have an old magazine rack that is the perfect size for vinyl records that also has a small drawer I use for vinyl cleaning supplies, that has my records I listen to quite often. The drawer that my turntable (nothing fancy, just a Fluance RT 80) sits on also has a drawer that I keep cleaning supplies and other vinyl accessories in and an opening that is the perfect size for vinyl records. I keep various records there, new finds from thrift shops, things like that. So I guess I do have SOME organization. I also have spillover in the upper shelf of my closet. These are records that I hardly ever listen to. All-in-all I have about 250 or 300 records. If I had as many as you I would definitely organize them more in line with how you organize yours.
