My new way of starting peas is to sow them in trays, then when about 2 or 3 inches tall, I individually plant them out in a row. Doesn't take that long, and you're guaranteed a row without those annoying gaps. It worked very well last year

That's just what I tend to do with beans when sowing extras - I'd never thought about doing it with peas! Thanks Steve.

I have ginger still on a heat mat in the window sill, probably a month until it can go outside to the zip up greenhouse, but I have 18 shoots and more coming. Also broke one off when I was digging to see what's happening in the soil. Not sure when there's supposed to be a harvest, but it's fun and easy to grow. Another joyful update, thanks!

Wow - here's me thinking I'm doing well with three! I'm really excited to harvest - although like you I'm not quite sure when but it won't be for a while yet. Thank you.

Hi Jane. Love the play area you have for the girls. I have Ne Plus Ultra peas on the go up the big frame. First time growing them. I have a couple of little pea beds still empty so I’ll pop some peas in direct. See what eats them 🤣. My toms and peppers are a touch bigger than your but not much. It’s great that you have frogs in your pond - very sweet. Have a great week. Mags.

Ha ha - exactly - it's always good to know that someone's going to enjoy what we plant, even if it's not us! So pleased the froggies have found a nice spot - let's just hope they enjoy the local slug population! Thanks Mags x

Nice one Jane! Great to see you today. Quote from my granddaughter, "How do you know so many people Grampy?" LOL Bless her. My ginger has totally stalled! I need your magic touch.

Magic touch tends to involve crossing fingers - lots of them! Your poor grand daughter - we probably put her off gardening for life! Great to see you x

@@JanesGrowingGarden LOL, luckily she likes gardening too! She even asked to come with me to the Autumn Show 🙂 But we will take our own food to that one - soooooo stupidly expensive there, no need for it with a captive audience.

Hi Jane, yes I have wonky asparagus too, only on one plant though which is weird!! My asparagus is not doing as well as last year, I think it's the weather! You made me laugh when you were herding your chickens, there's always one or two who won't go in isn't there 😂 Hoping to get my peas in this afternoon, your frame looks lovely. Take care 😊
@JanesGrowingGarden5 ай бұрын
I do wonder if they've been nibbled at the base which has caused them to lean over a bit - tasty though which is the main thing! The chickens are funny aren't they - it's never straightforward! Thanks Bethan.

I have wobbly asparagus too Jane, it wasn't wobbly last year (this is its second year), but is also very chunky. It started sprouting ridiculously early Feb/March and is now over 6 ft tall. Most odd, but I did try a couple of spears and they were fab! So I'm content with quirky asparagus lol!
@JanesGrowingGarden5 ай бұрын
That's what I reckon - as long as it tastes good it doesn't matter how it looks (although it does look weird!) Glad you enjoyed yours. Thank you.

I’m trying Alderman for the first time this season over some arches. Currently in some root trainers but might pop a few extras in direct. Got my usual Hurst Green Shaft too but I find them a pain to harvest. Loving the frog 🐸

I tried to grow Sugar Daddy Peas last year, however our spring weather ended up being too warm (80+ F) for their liking. I have a few seeds planted in a different area and will see if that works. Fingers crossed that it does!

Hey Jane I did the grow along with Audrey but my me didn’t come up. Was supermarket ginger that I got though.
@JanesGrowingGarden5 ай бұрын
Yes that can happen with ones from the supermarket as they are often sprayed with something to preserve them and stop them shooting. I picked mine up from the garden centre for a few pounds - they were quite extortionate online!
