Hi there Grace ; I really , really love this video. It gives me a better understanding of how my yarn is being made. With the amount of time and color and of course with the type of fiber that it takes to process in making it happen for all of us crafters. If it is knitting or crocheting , or what ever it may be. LOVE IT. Thank you.

Hi Grace (this is Highlandhope Knits on Insta) There are several wonderful classes on Bluprint (formally Craftsy) where I have learned a ton about spinning lately. Two things that may interest you; don’t weigh your yarn when drying because you pull out the crimp then when you wash your final garment it will shrink as the memory of the crimp returns. Second there is a trick to getting your colors to match when spinning gradient... don’t be afraid to break your single! Now with that said I am like you and love the whimsyness of handspun so I don’t care if colors match. But if it is necessarily then the Bluprint instructor said just break the single and match where you like. Think of it like paint that you put where you want. :) Thanks for a fun video! I just got a kiwi 3 and I am LOVING spinning on a wheel after many years of spindling.

Nanette K I hate wasting the yarn! That’s why I never break the single! Interesting idea with the weights. I’ve heard lots of different ideas on it. The weighing works for me.

Nanette K I learned the same about weighting your hand spun on Craftsy, from Amy King, and wondered the same thing! Just learning to spin now thus soaking up everything ❤️

Another measuring variation is to lay your skein along a yard stick, take the length and multiply by 2. Easier than measuring the circumference. Then multiply by the number of strands for number of inches. Divide by 36 to get yards. Pretty yarn! Did you finish the cardigan?

I really enjoy watching you spin, especially since I just started spinning myself. I find it very interesting to see how others go about it. An dI have to say that I just love the bobbins your using here! Are they special bobbins? Can they only be used on Ashford spinning wheels or vcan they be used on all sorts of wheels? And lastly where did you get them? They look really gorgeous ❤

I also naturally spin lace weight singles and find I need to over twist it so as to not get an under twisted yarn when I ply. I do find that I have to pay attention when I ply so I can unwind the cork screws that end up in the singles.

Ooohh Grace... You've made a WOMAN's Job !!! Men wouldn't do it with love and passion as you do ! Me and my wife are now getting started on weaving but this is much much far beyond, making your own yarn ! Just beautiful ! We visited London in September and we bought a 32 inch / 7,5 DPI rigid heddle reed, and I made our own loom, just like an Ashford one. We bought it at the Handweavers Studio & Gallery. You know it ? Do you live in London ? I'll think about some questions for sure I have to ask you about spinning technique and about linen yarn, if you usuallly answer your fans. Thanks and good luck for all your wonderful work.

Measure the full distance around your niddy noddy in inches, then multiply by the number of strands and divide by 36= yards.

I really loved watching you spin! I think if you want a faster way of getting more twist, you need a higher (?? smaller size circle) ratio whorl for your flyer, the smaller circle allows for more otations of the flyer per rotation of the wheel, therefore spins faster. I'm pretty sure Ashford do sell them, you just need one that's for a double drive. I have a single drive wheel and have been seriously wanting to get myself a new whorl for this reason myself!

Omg when you went fast there..I thought you were gonna spin Mr Beans into that yarn :-) love your videos. Colours look gorgeous!

I love your channel, happened upon it accidentally and been watching ever since. I rarely ever comment but just wanted to say, try winding skeins on a swift instead, waaaaaaaay faster and easier then a niddy noddy :)

Thank you for your video Grace. How your yarn feels when you touch it? Is it still soft? I am asking because I had the tendency of overtwisting my singles and I ended up with a « wiry » (like a wire, hard, you know?) touch and did not like it but maybe it is also a question of the sort of fiber, maybe a merino does not mind some overtwist... I mostly spin rustic yarn I love but I am not sure what was your braid, merino?

I am just writing a pattern for a sweater that is knit all in the round and than steeked for the sleeves. That would be a perfect fit for this yarn. You can find it on my instagram: instagram.com/its_the_spinnery/ I would love to give it to you as a thank you for all the beautiful content you make

And on the topic of "how to get more twist in faster" the solution is easy: Get smaller whorls. They are available for Ashford wheels.
