Your story was a bit run-on, and constantly went on tangents that lost the point a lot. I suggest checking out some of somecallmejohnny's (another sonic fan youtuber) old videos, compared to his more recent videos. He used to have practically no charisma but now he's one of the smoothest talkers on the platform.

Yup. I agree. I was 9 when the genesis cameout and 2 yrs later sonic came out and the fans were made! Was huge till Sony released in 95. Most sega fans jumped ship and moved to Sony. (Damnit!) And the rest is history..never would I have thought back in early 90s that people TODAY would still be sonic fans. Kids today talk about console wars. Lol. Thats cute. The REAL war was snes vs sega. I got into it at a weird time in life. I was serving in the military in 2021 and on my free time there I did everything from reading books and comics, playing mobile ports of legit games and F2P games, walkthroughs of console games on KZbin, I was grinding. Eventually the well kinda got dry and I wanted something BIG to invest time into. Years ago I had undergone a huge Star Wars journey, all comics (we're talking thousands), all games (more than 150 of them), I had become a SW powerhouse and I wanted something similar to have something to consistently look forward to. I started Mario but it didn't really captivate me and then I ran into him. Sonic the Hedgehog. 0, literal 0 prior experience to Sonic before, only thing I knew about him was that he had a decent comedy show in the 90s, bad games and the cast was cringe AF. Basically my image of the brand was that of a gaming punching bag, a laughingstock. Nonetheless, I started it, with the mindset that I'll laugh my @$$ off at how bad it is but still started it. 90s shows first, tAoStH was good, Underground was OK-ish. SatAM was BRILLIANT, I thought they cooked hard. "Consider me intrigued" I told myself and off I went to play the games (all of them btw, 120+) Classic Era was a fun ride tho I didn't find myself invested in the lore and found the characters kinda shallow, I wanted something more out of the franchise. That's when I got released by the military and returned home and could play the rest. Adventure Era was a game changer, practically every game, mainline or spin-off, tried to be something special. THAT was when I realized Sonic wasn't just another mascot money cow, it was something more, something grander. Long story short, Meta Era eh, good games but terrible Sonics, read the comics, Fleetway was OK, Archie was 🐕💩, IDW is peak, read the manga, saw all other shows and films, read all Sonic Channel art, even got the movie novelizations. Needless to say I also got tons of Sonic stuff laying around the house now. Sonic steadily won me over as time went on and it feels like no other IP. I've practically played everything on the face of the Earth, that Sonic feeling is not found anywhere else in the industry. The purity, passion and love pouring out of every aspect of this franchise is exhilarating and borderline inspiring.

@@mangledaway Inconsistent art style that was ugly AF more often than not, terrible script, mediocre editors, terrible storylines for a large portion of it, a genuinely dreadful cast of characters that are the textbook definition of inconsistency (especially Sally), lore and world building that constantly contradicted itself (all other Sonic media have holes and minor annoying missteps but Archie takes it to another level). Archie Sonic is just a bad comic series plain and simple, it didn't last long because it was good, it lasted long because it was Sonic and the name carried it. People like to point out that it got good as soon as Ian Flynn got on board but that couldn't be further from the truth. Ian's initial work was messy and mediocre, he got his footing a dozen issues before the reboot. Only thing that was genuinely good pre-reboot was Sonic Universe, aka it took Archie *309* issues of comics to get somewhat good, that is genuinely pathetic. IDW > Fleetway > Archie and it's not even close

He has great storytelling skills and is able to really dissect not only the source material of the comic series but also the backstage behind it's production. Indeed, Archie's Sonic comics can be way too messy and inconsistent, specially on it's early days before Ian steps in, but i think that's part of the charm when analyzing how things went over the years. I just think it has a lot of heart poured into it when you learn more about how it was done.

Hey. Old dinosaur gamer here (50yo). Former Sega staff member from early 90's. My first intro to Sonic was BEFORE Sonic the Hedgehog was released on the Sega Mega Drive as I was invited to come into the Australian Sega HQ to see "the game that will beat Sonic" when I was 17yo. It was truly awesome to see how vibrant and colourful this game was compared to anything else at the time. I'm so glad to have been on the Sonic bandwagon from the start. It's great to hear someone now discovering Sonic in the 2020's and it is crazy how big into the franchise you are now considering Team Sonic Racing was your first experience with a Sonic game! I was there in the 1990s, and remember when Sonic came on to the scene he was just a cut above any other videogame character. It's hard to explain that impact, but consider a world where the only other comparable videogame hero in a market saturated with forgettable protagonists was an overweight italian plumber in coveralls and a hat. Sonic looked cool. He had an edge, an attitude, he had character. In the original games, if you sat still for longer than a minute he'd start tapping his foot while looking at the player in irritation. I'm not overselling this, as a kid when it was released, Sonic hit the videogame space hard, and cartoons, comic books etc followed. His key characteristics that are appealing are that attitude, his cool look, and the fact that he's a hero of freedom in a dystopian world. Nothing is gonna lock him down. He's got to run. Sega lost their way a bit in the games space over the years, after making that initial splash, but Sonic himself has never lost his cool. There's just something about him. Thanks for sharing what you love about Sonic, Haley!

I've been a Sonic fan since 1995 and it's so heartwarming to see more and more people of all ages learning to love the blue hog even so many years later! Welcome to being a Sonic fan! Word of advice from a veteran: enjoy the franchise however you want, regardless of what people say. The "dark era" is an incredibly subjective term that depends entirely on the definition of the individual using that phrase, and no matter what the vocal minority says, there are still lots of fans out there who adore the games from the mid to late 2000s. There's so many iterations of the characters and stories that even if not everything is for someone, there's something for everyone. 💙 I do have to agree with some other commenters that you may want to consider using a script, or at least keeping notes nearby. There were a lot of asides and extraneous explanations that made it a little bit difficult to follow your overall story flow. Your story was very heartwarming and fun to listen to, but the pacing may turn a lot of people with shorter attention spans away. Just organize your talking points a little more to keep things flowing smoothly and a bit more concisely and you're golden! PS: You've heard correctly - the Japanese version of Sonic X is like watching an entirely different anime. Do yourself a favor and give it a re-watch in its original language some time, as it is, in my opinion, the definitive way to enjoy it.

I got into Sonic as a child but I only had a Sega Game Gear. I ended up getting a Sega Dreamcast later on for Sonic Adventure, which is my favorite Sonic game, then a Sega Genesis when it was dirt cheap. I stopped played by the time the PS3/360/Wii generation came around because the quality of most Sonic games plummeted. I picked it up again on the Switch because of Mania and Frontiers so Sega is bouncing back with Sonic, but we shall see how the Generations remake does. P.S. The Super Nintendo (SNES) was released in 1991 and the game was called Super Mario Bros. and it was the remake on the Super Mario All-Stars remake (Original Game was on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)).

Dude i Love listening to you talk. I'm just here playing my switch and binging your vids in the background. It's a trip hearing your perspective as someone who grew up on Sonic, the first one on the genesis being the earliest memory i have with a video game. Then, the adventure series being my introduction to the 3rd dimension of gaming. Adventure 2 was my favorite for so long, but it's funny how opinions change over time as now i would give anything for another game like Adventure 1. Like your brother, i can play that game for hours just having fun with the physics engine. That's very much something that was missing in Frontiers for me, but overall i enjoyed Frontiers despite not having beaten it yet. I do prefer the challenging platforming aspect of Sonic games, and with a lot of new comers due to the movie, it's interesting to see how Sega tries to appeal to both casual and veteran audiences. I admittedly didn't care for the movie. I grew up on the Adventures cartoon, underground, Satam, and the OVA movie which i could watch over and over again. And i honestly never even gave the second movie a chance but i probably will soon because ever since I played 3 & Knuckles, Knuckles is my favorite character and i just feel obligated to watch the movie and spinoff series because of that. Anyways, I'm really excited to hear your Sonic 06 review because, personally, that's one of my favorite Sonic games and it's probably the last one that made me feel like passionate about a sonic game as weird as that sounds. I just think it gets so much hate because it was unfinished and people are unable to see passed surface level flaws, but i really respect what the devs were trying to go for gameplay & story wise, and i really hope Sonic Team gets to indulge more in that formula. Sega bringing back Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi though is already so much more than i could ask for lol. Those 2 games along side Adventure 1 were my Holy Trinity growing up. + I really really enjoy superstars so far. I almost forgot to mention that when i was a kid i just couldn't beat sa2 for like years because i didn't know about the knuckles underwater bracelet either and just had no resources to figure that out, so xD ... also also heroes is sooo good, please 🐬 emulator. 😉

I've been a Sonic fan for as long as i can remember. When i was little, i watched Sonic cartoons, Sonic videos on youtube, played Sonic flash games, and read the Sonic Archie Comics. (Which, by the way, were surreal, for the longest time i started thinking it was all a dream.) When i got a bit older i found out about STC, and read it all online, i even went back to the Sonic Archie Comics and gained a newfound appreciation for the unique world they had and the depth they added to the characters, and THEN thanks to Pariah i found out about JP Sonic! I already was vaguely aware of JP Sonic stuff like the manuals and the retranslated mods, but thanks to Pariah i found out i had plenty of misconceptions about the character i loved so much, and i started loving him even more. Basically, Sonic has been with me my whole life, thanks to consuming a lot of Sonic media i gained an appreciation for all these different versions of Sonic. JP Sonic, Archie Sonic, and STC Sonic all have been with me in important parts of my life. I had some other phases like Undertale and Mega Man, but none of them have stuck with me as long as Sonic did. I'm glad the movies are introducing a whole new generation of kids to Sonic, so they can have the same joy i had with this franchise. Sonic has always been my comfort character and i love him so much.

I got into Sonic when I was a toddler. My first memory actually is when I was 3 back in 2008. I remember seeing the trailer for Sonic Unleashed and thought it was the coolest thing in the world. Growing up throughout my childhood, my Sonic games I loved were Sonic Unleashed, Secret Rings, Black Knight, Sonic 2, and Sonic 4: Episode 1. I got into sonic a year or two ago after playing sonic 3&knuckles on a website during school. I loved the game so I played more of the classic sonic games which I also thought were fun. I watched sonic movie 2 in theaters and that basically cemented me being a sonic fan. Long story short, I played the adventure games, the advance games, generations, frontiers, etc, and now I’m currently going for 100% in sonic 06. I love these games now (even sonic 06 which I find pretty fun ngl)

I haven't even gotten past the final story yet, but at times, the game was a pain to get through. I played the game with my younger brother, so he's also gotten past sections as well. I've needed him to get past the mach speed sections because I don't think I ever passed a single one without his help.

My first sonic game was Sonic 3. I was 5 when my parents bought it for me in Feb 1994. My older sister gave me the Model 2 Genesis she never played on Christmas of 93. I've been a fan ever since.

I've actually played both Adventure 2 and Unleashed. Adventure 2 is the one I go back on the most because it has good replayability to it. (City Escape probably is my most played level.)

Sonic is my favorite gaming franchise and it’s always cool to hear how other people got into the franchise. I’ve been a fan for almost 30 years now, I started with the very first game in the series in 1994 when I was 4 years old and still love the series! Sonic 3 and Knuckles is the best game IMO.

Don’t exactly remember how I got into Sonic but it’s been well over 10 years and possibly a little more at this point. One of my earliest memories was getting a PSP for Christmas one year with 4 games along with it. One of those games was Sonic Rivals and that might’ve been the first Sonic game I’ve ever played. I say might’ve because again I’m not 100% sure if that was my gateway into the series or not. Since then I’ve played almost every game and have been keeping up to date with all the new releases.

Sonic is literally something so important to me, the first games I remember playing are sonic 1 & 2 and the first console my dad bought me was a dreamcast. I had so many games but i remember only ever playing sonic adventure and adventure 2 (2 being played much more) and from then on i would go to play wvery sonic game released. So if means so much to me cause it got me into gaming which i adore and also i connected with my best friend of over 10 years now because of our mutual love for SA2

My sonic fixation was a weird thing I played sonic 1 on the genesis back in roughly 2004 or 2005 when I was Lil I also played sonic advance 3 and sega superstar tennis Aside from that, I wasn't super crazy for Sonic yet, but 2011, sonic generations came out and I loved it a ton, the seeds of my sonic fanboyism began, than I heard the song "endless possibilities" from sonic unleashed and I really wanted to play it again and it gave me a massive appreciation for sonic/video game music From there I ended up binging every sonic game, watching all the shows, looking up tons of amvs and watched the movies as soon as they came out in theaters I'm not as crazy fanboy for sonic as much as I used too; but I always check in as soon as news drop and I'm always super happy for my boi

I must say, this video is very wholesome and a nice breath of fresh air when it comes to gaming related videos. It's fun and engaging to hear your personal history with the Sonic franchise. I'm really dating myself when I say this, but my first exposure to Sonic was through these Tiger handheld electronic games from the early/mid 90s, my brother had one based on Sonic 2. Shortly after that, my brother got his Sega Genesis and a proper copy of Sonic 2 for Christmas, our first game console ever (that was probably Christmas of 1994 if I remember correctly lol). While I eventually got into video games myself and branched out into different platforms, series and genres, I always enjoyed watching my brother play his Sonic games and even playing with him sometimes (though he and I shared a lot of our games as kids, Sonic was a franchise I always considered to be "his"). I'll never forget when the Sega Dreamcast came out and Sonic got his first full 3D game. That particular entry hasn't aged well over the years, but 25 years ago (can't believe it's been that long), it was truly groundbreaking to see a fully 3D-rendered Sonic game. I still consider the original Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast to be my most favorite entry in the series. On a side note, I hope you get a chance to try some other classic Sega games at some point! I also wish you a lot of success with your KZbin channel and your fun content. Keep up the good work!🙂👍

The first sonic i played was Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 for the Sega Gamegear. I remember the first 3d sonic game i saw was new Sonic the Hedgehog for Xbox 360 and i was blown away by the graphics and realism at the time. Also.. You are very cute

I’ve been into Sonic ever since I was little. And just today my neighbor was having a yard sale and he had a bunch of Genesis games, but one that stood out was a copy of Sonic 2; and then I ask for it and he says 5 bucks, and so I buy it but then he says that he has Sonic Spinball and the original Sonic 1. I should’ve bought Spinball at that time but I didn’t (because I didn’t have enough money), but he gave me Sonic 1 for free. But I’ve been playing the original Genesis games via Sonic Origins Plus. But my true introduction to Sonic was Colors for the Wii, Sonic Underground, Sonic X (and the Sonic X Archie comics), and the mobile ports of Sonic 1, 2, and CD. And also nice video btw! Keep up the good content!

I've literally been a fan my entire life. The first time I picked up a controller was at 2 or 3 years old, I picked up a Sega Genesis controller to try to play the very first Sonic because my sister had been playing it. I continued to play it throughout my whole childhood. My interest in the series more or less fell off in the late 2000s, I still love the classics but don't really keep up with the series much. Nowadays I like to play rom hacks of old-school Sonic, the best of which being Sonic Delta 40mb where you play through Sonic 1, 2 and 3&K as one continuous experience, which allows you to do stuff like play through the first game as Tails or Knuckles, something you couldn't do on the original Genesis release.

I think my brother started playing Sonic Dash before playing the platforms. (I also played this, too) Remembering back, I introduced Sonic X and the movies to him to see if he would like Sonic (both of our first times watching the movies btw), and slowly, but surely, he started getting into it. I also got games to see if he would like it, too. So I could I say that it also started with him and I slowly getting into it. (The points in this video are also true)
