I'm also learning how to develop games using internet tools, didn't tackle the art department yet and I think it will be as challenging as the code (I'm a musician/sound designer). Good work you've been doing so far, congrats! If you're open to feedback, it would be a good idea to diferentiate the auras with something else, not only the color. If the auras have distinct shapes or something like that, colorblind people might be able to play your game.

You've earned a sub! I am starting my small game soon, wish me luck! I came to this channel through your video about pixel art (even though my game will not use pixel art, because it's a visual novel-based). In the video where you shared your 6 months of progress, you said "I don't know where my subscribers are from" I am from Yemen ( there is a map in call of duty black ops 2 called Yemen). And the fact that your videos reached an Arabic individual in an Arabic country (Yemen), proves you are driven by motivation and you are worthy of youtube's recommendation, you should be proud. In case you still didn't notice.....seeing your progress really motivated me. If you find some of my words were harsh (because you might have misunderstood something, as I am learning English), then pardon me, I tried to express my positivity as best as a non English speaker could do. Thanks for reading.

To me, the teleport mechanic looks like you’re cloning the character, adjusting it’s visibility, and tweening it’s X position forward while maintaining the player’s Y position, and if the player finishes their action, it moves the player to the temporary ghost’s location. Am I getting that right or do you have a different process that I’m just not getting?
@Ric_93
@Ric_93 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you're totally right! I'm also using some raycasts to check if the character would teleport into the map (which doesn't work correctly all the time)

It's a puzzle platformer with metroidvania elements and a limited fuel jetpack. It was originally programmed in C for dos with 320x200, 256 color graphics. Now it's written in python (custom engine) with HD graphics.

Yeah I remember doing these type of games back in 2007 or so, when I was literally 12 or 13 years old. Back then there were programs where you could do them really easily. But I get the hype. I had it too. And it is more fulfilling knowing how to actually do this from scratch then using a program that is already programmed to do z game.

to be honest man, all that he did, for now, old developers (at least 1 year and with programming experience) do in a week or 2, if work on it 2-3 hours a day, there is only movement, jump, Ora and TP, ah yeah and camera movement. That things that a dev who did games before know how to make fast and not in 2 months so yes he is absolutely new, but he have a lot of motivation and that a reason for his game to progres

He didn't start learning programming 2 months ago. He started learning game development 2 months ago. That's very different. I'd say you need at least a year of learning before you start doing something bigger. Tetris, Snake or some other arcade game is one thing. They are relatively simple. An adventure game like this requires more knowledge. Although Unity does a lot for you, which is useful.

@@CottidaeSEA Using a game engine definitely speeds up the process, of course. In this case, he used Godot, but I think that for beginners, the best thing is to try to first create simple games, such as snake game, tic tac toe, pong, tetris, using HTML5 and Javascript, so that you have some basic understanding of some things beforehand, such as game loops, event handling and file management, and have a better evaluation on what to expect from game engines overall. Then, trying out Godot or pretty much any Game Engine to expand even more your view of stuff. (I mentioned godot basically because it has probably the lowest barrier to enter, not only with price, but also on friendly UI and mechanics, aswell as low file sizes).

Hey man I'm loving this video you are feeling me with the inspiration I have to point out something that's a glaring, your enunciation is on point except when it is a three or four syllable word you say it so fast that I cannot decipher and those happen to be the hyper technical terms I hope you see the paradox

I wish I was only consistent as you. I try for a small time and then leave it and come back again after few months. This makes the process even more demotivating and I wasted 2 years like this. :(

Maybe your goals are too overwhelming. Instead of thinking, "I'm gonna make a game," sit down and write a bunch of little things your game idea needs right now, achievable stuff you could do in a few minutes to an hour. Add a function to your code to do something useful. Fix one little bug that's been bothering you. Write a little brainstorming about one location or character. Slowly build a big outline of the game's overall areas that need development, the tasks you need to finish to get those done, then within the tasks, sub-tasks and sub-tasks, small enough that you could do several in an evening. Then, when you decide to work on your game, you can commit to just one of those little tiny bits, and when you start, you may find you get carried away working on it, or you might stop after one, or stop in the middle of one, doesn't matter. Point is, you did something, and your project is more complete than it was before you sat down. Build successes and you'll gain momentum and likely want to work on it more.
