Thanks for sharing. It’s true we all have our own way of organizing depending upon how are brains work. But, there is always something that sparks a new way of doing things that we never thought of before, so thanks again Sam!

Have you ever thought to remove all the sentiments that are on each set of dies and keep them in their own pouches? Since I don't have to share where I got things, that's what I do. That way I can see all the different fonts and sentiments for a card I'm making without having to go through all my stamps. I also cut the sets up and organize them by theme too. If a set has flowers and leaves along with some other random ones, I put those under flowers. BUT, I don't need to know where they came from. I just want them so I use them. Otherwise, I use this method you do on all my sentiments. All the others are in mini binders, titled and organized in my bookcase by my desk. I think everyone needs to find what works for them so we actually use our supplies and not just buy and put them away! LOL

I generally buy magnetic vent covers, which I find at Home Depot here in America. I cut them down for die storage. The covers are 15x8", and I cut down to 5x7-1/4" (that's the height that fits in the pockets I use, & I can get three evenly sized sheets if I cut them down to 5" wide). So from a pack of 3 covers, I can get 9 sheets. And the only waste is the 3/4" wide strip from cutting theme shorter. They are rather flimsy, but I just adhere them to lightweight (maybe 65 lb.) white cardstock cut slightly wider and the same height, which provides ample stiffness. If you do that, make sure to use double-sided tape rather than liquid glue. I initially used glue, and the moisture apparently seeped through the magnetic sheet on several of them, and rusted some of my dies. :( I ended up having to rip the cardstock backing off those, clean the sheet to get any glue residue off, and adhere to another cardstock piece. Thank you for sharing your system, Sam. I always love seeing how other crafters organize their spaces & supplies. Hope you have an awesome day! :)

I want to thank you for so many things, your skill at card design and instruction, information, tips, and videos on how to organized your craft supplies and room, and so much more. I have been doing your lesson regarding organizing stamps and dies and although my husband threatens to "clean out/up my craft area he finally is seeing progress. And it makes sense, my stress level is reduced and I can now craft more without problems. Again Thank you.

Hey Sam, I did this before I saw this video. I picked up a solid perspexs fridge box when I lived in Belgium in a shop called Action very similar to wilkos of home bargins in the UK. Mine are really rigid plastic and perfect fit for an A5 plastic wallet in the way you have yours stashed, maybe people can check in the houseware sectiosn of their local shops. Another tricks for me is that I use an ink pad to colour the edges of the sheets I put in the wallets I stamp the image and wite a label at the top, its a really quick visual clue when I want to find one style of stamps for example red is Christams related, yellow is for cartoon or cuties etc... I also had straight tops but I used scissors to cut a small semicircle onto on side makes them easier to use. For my. tiny stamps the ones you use on pegs I have a smaller bix and A6 wallets. My dies are in wallets with magnetic plates in pockets

I see you’re using the Jennifer McGuire organization method for stamps & dies! What an awesome idea Jennifer McGuire had so many, many, many years ago & I’m sure she didn’t even know it at the time how huge her ideas would come to benefit so, so many in the crafting community, nor how recognized, known & greatly appreciated her, her name & her organizational ideas would benefit so, so many & how she would be on talk shows, in magazines, have her name broadcasted all over the crafting community, KZbin & so much more...WOW!!! I’m sure you watched her video of her craft room tour because I heard you mention her name on this video about how your followers should go check out Jennifer McGuire’s video about labeling using the Brother machine, but they should watch Jennifer McGuire’s craft room tour from so many years ago & how she developed this amazingly awesome organizational method! Enjoyed your video of how you organize your stamps & dies using the Jennifer McGuire method! Take care, 🎀 Lily 🎀

Very similar to what I am doing. I made boxes 8”x8”x4” using chipboard and pretty, heavy wrapping paper. I place the dies in envelopes which close with Velcro.. available from Amazon. I place extra cutouts in several colors in a smaller thin envelope in the bigger envelope to use when I am in a hurry or want to try something for size. If I have the original packaging, I use the cardboard part to hold the dies, particularly the small ones. It makes them easier to pull out. I made my dividers from folders which I cut down. They are the same width of the storage envelopes and about an inch taller so I see the sections easily. I don’t have a label maker but type everything out, laminate, cut apart and attach with double sided tape. The biggest drawback to my system is the cost of the envelopes from Amazon. But .... it does work well. I love the idea of the magnetic insert. I am going to do this today!

Most of my stamps are on wooden blocks, so they take up a lot more room. I've got them in A4 storage boxes. I have to admit to having way too many dies. I like the Woodware A4 self adhesive magnetic sheets. I peel the backing off and lay the sheet down on a piece of stiff card. That helps when you have a lot of smaller dies stored on the sheet. Then I found some A4 see through folders with a velcro closure and pop them in there. All the folder are stored in heavy duty plastic document storage boxes. They come in different colours and you can write on the top to say what is inside, ie Christmas, Grand dies and so on. If you put double sided tape on the back of those floppy magnetic sheets that you have, you can stick them on to some card. That will help stiffen them up. I love watching your tutorials. Especially the large fold down gift bags, the cottage, she shed etc. I had been looking for a die set that would let me make something similiar but you've shown me how to make it from scratch. Your instructions are so easy to follow. I've only just found your videos on You Tube, so I'm having a really good time working my way through them all. Thanks for all your hard work and for sharing all your brilliant ideas. Cherry in France

This is very similar to how I keep my stamps. I have black canvas containers though. I am disabled so the weight is a huge issue for me. My dies I have the ArtBin magnetic die sheets. The are heavy weight and look like a white folder. I use a metal container to hold them. I keep them down low as I can't pick up that weight. However the ones that match stamps, I keep in the back of my pocket as well.

I store my stamps and dies exactly like this! I think it's so great for space saving and the ability to divide them all into categories. I also organize mine similar to the way you do (like the "fashion" and "animals" ones). The only difference in mine is that I use small 3 ring binder page protectors as my sleeves because if I want to take some with me to a crop or my boyfriend's house, I just pop them into my binder and go! They aren't nearly as stiff, but with the addition of white cardstock pieces to see them better AND putting one in the front and one in the back of each protector, they stay pretty rigid. I get my bins at my local Dollar Tree here in the USA and they fit the pages perfect.
@kkrolf2782

Ruthie K I, too, use the “half sheet” sized page protectors, but mine are pretty substantial. I, however, have trimmed off the “binder edge” so they don’t stand proud of the edge of the drawer I store them in.

OMG, I've been hoping that some day you would come up with such a video & today's the day. I thank you so very much for sharing this with us. I do mine similar but have had a hard time with the pockets, so that's a help for me as well as what you use. This is a keeper video for me to look back on. In the meantime off to check out the pockets. For the magnetic sheets I use vent covers. Think they're 8 X 15. So I cut to 5 X7 and waste an inch, but then again you can use that inch say for edge dies or smaller ones.

I’m in the process of doing something very similar with my stamps and dies at the moment. I haven’t started on the stamps yet. I am using Avery Elle pouches (the largest size) and cutting thick white cardstock inserts for each one. I am sticking a strip of magnetic tape across one side, onto which I can stick the dies. This then goes in the pouch, and the original packaging labels (trimmed down as necessary) go into the pouch on the other side of the card insert. I also put die-cuts that I have made into smaller baggies which go in with the die. I haven’t got a labeller and don’t intend to get one. I am going to design whole A4 sheets of labels on my desktop publisher and cut them out and glue them on. I know this is more work than using a dedicated labeller but it’s much cheaper and the result will be the same. I am planning to do something very similar to make my dividers - I got a laminator this week. An alternative would be to print the category on the top of the piece of card before I laminate it. The stamps will most likely be cling-mounted onto acetate sheets, again separated from the original packaging label by a piece of heavy cardstock. For both stamps and dies there will be some cross-over between categories. I think I shall make crib sheets of stamped images and file them separately, with a note under each one to indicate which section in the storage system they can be found. To keep them in, I have bought several really nice plastic baskets from the Range which work really well. For too long my stamps and dies have been in a total muddle - in different boxes and folders, and I can never find anything, and half the time I don’t even know what I’ve got! This new system is going to be so helpful. Not only does it look really great with all the packaging the same size, but it’s so easily accessible. I’ve got another basket into which I have put a lot of card blanks with their mats that I cut in bulk in different sizes - my hubby suggested I made a lot of envelopes with the punch board at the same time too, to file with them. I am going to do this, with blank liners too, and not glue anything, so I can pull out a card blank with its envelope and decorate and embellish as I choose. Up till now, card making has been a real pain for me because I’ve been doing everything on an ad hoc basis which takes ages. With the new system, it will not only be much quicker and more efficient, but much more fun too. I think everyone should have a storage system like this! Thank you for sharing. Great video.

@@kkrolf2782 Thanks for your interest! I’ve only begun on the background stamps so far. I ran out of Avery Elle pouches and ordered some more. I’m going through a very busy time at the moment, and as usual, studio time has been relegated to the bottom of the heap. The die storage is complete, and it’s brilliant. I’ve got a lot more stamps than I have dies, so it’s going to take a while. As for the labelling on the dividers, I’ve decided to print the name on the top of a piece of cheap printer card and then laminate it. Once trimmed down to size and the corners rounded, these dividers work really well. You can see the results if you scroll down on my blog shoshiplatypus.com. Have fun!

Great tips, thanks. Do you have a system for cataloging your stamps so that you know where, for example, all your “Congratulations” stamps are? I’ve run into the same problem!!! I’ve JUST about decided to completely forego STAMPS for “sentiments” and use my computer! There’s a site called “daFont” (and others, too, I think) where we can get FREE fonts, and an app called “Mako” (… I think that’s its name… ) that can show you how to bend your words to the shape you need. As for “icon”-type stamps - say, BUTTERFLIES? - I’m with you!! Nearly every fourth clear plastic stamp set seems to have at least one Butterfly!! H O W in the world are we to keep track of them all?!?

On the magnetic sheets? I received a batch of thin ones and ended up gluing two or three together, which made it stronger. Just couldn't waste them and alone, they really were useless. : )

Ya, that would be more than just an “ah, shucks!!” ‘cuz … I HAVE FOUND … the thinner the magnet sheets, the weaker the magnetic “pull”!!! So, in essence, you’d paid 3 Xs as much as you should have had to!!

I buy mine from Amazon. They are very strong. They do have adhesive backing, but I don't use that. I slide two, back to back, into the sleeves of my binder. I can easily slide it out and nothing falls off. They are a bit more spendy than the vent covers, but using 3 or 4 pieces stuck together to get a good grip isn't really saving money and a pain in the ass. LOL I just invest a bit more and it makes life easier for me.

How do you store all the magnetic sheets with dies against each other? Surely the magnetic sheet would pull the die from the behind one?
@MixedUpCraft
@MixedUpCraft 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Rowena . All my dies are in plastic wallets so they don’t touch , also the magnet sheets are just strong enough to hold the dies but not enough to all stick together. Hope this helps.

I’ve not yet begun to organize my stamps; primarily because all the organization versions I see on Y.T. don’t EVEN take in to account the fact that just about every clear plastic stamp set sold has flowers, foliage, sentiments, and often some other type of “whatever”, be it a bicycle, or pergola, or “whatever”. Please, help me, someone! HOW do you keep grasp of the memory of each kind of these lil gems so nicely tucked away in a category that doesn’t EVEN represent what they are?!?

There is a computer program called Evernote that might be the solution for you. There are a handful of videos here on YT where people show how they use it for cataloging stamps and dies, with an easy search system called “tags” for sets with multiple images as you described. It can be a lot of work to set up if your collection is large, but I have found it to be worth the effort. There is a free version to download and use, and a paid version to which you can upgrade. In the search field here on YT, type in Evernote stamps and scroll through the video options. I found helpful tips in each of the offerings.

sharondipity Thank you, Sharondipity (cute moniker!). QUESTION: Does the free version allow you to enter “tags”? Any quantity? Or a limited number? Thx again.

kk rolf Thank you for your kind words! The moniker suits me well. Yes, the free version of Evernote allows you to add tags. I could be mistaken, but I think there was no limit to the number of tags you can create/add. With that said, on the free version there is a limit to how much data you can input/add per month. If you use up your allotted monthly limit, you have to wait until the next period begins before you can continue to add more information. I just don’t remember if the months are calculated as calendar months or fiscal months. Sorry my memory of the details is a bit fuzzy, it has been a couple of years since I began using the program. I know I don’t use it to its full potential, but I do find it useful and worthwhile. :)

Lol.. If you like the half circle on your die sleeves why don't you use a punch to put the half circle on the ones without them? Pretty sure the other ones were cut into- after they were made.

Hi there. I was wondering the measurements of the pouches. I have made a bunch! Great idea! But they barely fit on my laminating film. What is your divider size? And would you have a list of your words for you divider ideas. My grand daughter has helped me with label making and your idea of making the strips really does save tape
