NOTE: Hey guys! :) In this video I mention how I've been doing it for years! So I may make it look easy, cause it now, is very easy for me! That doesn't mean you will get it perfect your first try, (though I have seen that happen!!). So make sure you do some test samples or try it on a wig you would be OK with possibly messing up! I get really nasty, misguided criticism for my methods. Because I use cheaper unconventional techniques & affordable materials that have proven to work really well for me! So when elitist who think there is only a few "correct" ways to do things, or ppl mad they spend more time and money doing things people can get similar results doing much cheaper/differently, or they have try and failed at, I get blamed & lashed out at for it. I just want to remind people the reason I make these tutorials is because people endlessly ask me HOW >I< MAKE >MY< COSTUMES. So I show people how I make MY costumes. I do not insists my methods or the things I do are the best or only way to do things! In fact I always encourage people to try DIFFERENT things, & find a way that works BEST for THEM. It's really sad that people always ask me to share my secrets for how I make my costumes. So I share all my secrets. Then get criticized because it's not what they wanted/expected. People ignorantly think I have a team of people, & tons of money to spend for making costumes. & I'm really sorry if this isn't what they want to hear, but no. I don't. Just like most people who cosplay as a hobby, I have a tight budget, & work on things myself. I am an adult with bills to pay & mouths to feed & take care of. So I did have to work hard & develop skills within my means. & no I don't have to "do better" or do things the way more professional cosplayers do it, cause that doesn't work for me. I'm just an average cosplayer, doing what I do, in a way I enjoy most. I love mess. lol EVERYONE LEARNS & CREATES IN DIFFERENT WAYS! THERE IS NO WRONG WAY TO LEARN OR CREATE! FIND A WAY THAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU & RUN WITH IT!

I really love that your methods are mostly unconventional, because you teach others that cosplay isn't about doing things perfectly with a precise method, there's variety to get to the same goal. When I finish watching your videos, I always feel encouraged to think outside the box to achieve my cosplay goals with what I have in hand and my economy, that's why I admire you so much 🌸😊 I hope you keep the good work 🐥

Your tutorial is very straight forward and these are products I can actually afford. Definitely going to do this for styling a complex wig that I'll be wearing for a convention. (going to first try it out on a different wig of course). THANK YOU SO MUCH! ♥️

@@foxglove427 any tips for a beginner who can't afford to train on another wig and has to get shading into a red hair/orange wig? I would like to not mess it up too much and I figured you might have things to add to Alyson's great advice! Thank you in advance 😊
@foxglove427
@foxglove427 5 жыл бұрын
@@leannevantyghemleroux6003 So glad you asked cause I actually used this tutorial to do alterations on an orange wig myself. The first thing I did was think about what color I should coat the roots in using Alyson's method but adjusted for orange hair. So I looked up pictures of natural red heads and decided that brown is usually the base for every natural hair color. I used a warm brown just like alyson did. It looked realistic and very natural. I didnt practice myself before doing it and just went for it. I was quite happy with the results. It sayed on and didnt rub off on my hands. The good thing about this method is because your only coating the hair it can easily be sort of blended out or possibly even completely wash out if you put it too heavy in one place or another with water. Start with the crown of the head and work your way down so the top roots are the darkest. Use lots of water at first so you can sort of test how dark you want to go. I would use a solution of paint with a bit of water in it on a flat plate then brush it down the hair, and add more water on the places I were it might look to dark. You want to create a transition from darker color to lighter color at the ends of the hair. Hair color isnt even and perfect which is what makes this method so good because imperfect looks natural. Now when I did this with my pink wig I used a warmer pink base which also worked really well. I think the difference being one is a total fantasy color and the other one's natural. Also if your puting your hair up like in the video the tips I recommend is getting baking paper to smooth out the hot glue. And getting 2 cheap wigs and blending them together.

I was so proud of myself for trying it and having it work out. Don't let the haters get you down! There are plenty of people like me who will still try things despite others poopooing them.

To make a ponytail wig out of a cheaper wig whose wefts are not really arranged for a ponytail I used to use a similar gluing method after cutting off hair but when you have to wear a wig for a whole day and into an evening, losing the stretch from the cap due to the glue or having it stretched to one size secured with glue can get uncomfortable. the other issue is it can get really warm as the glue does tend to fill in slot of the cap that would give air flow. And if you are going to wear the wig, or hope to, on more than on occasion, and you own hair changes length or you get it cut you can find that the cap is too tight next time you go to use it, or too loose. So my solution, was to rewove the hair from the areas I wanted to change by using a seam ripper or thread scissors and cutting the threads that sewed the wefts to the cap in those areas, and then sewing the wefts back on in the pattern I wanted for the ponytail or up do. If the wig ends up not supplying enough hair I can fill in with extension pieces that match by clipping the threads that hold the extension clip to the weft and sewing them in areas that need thicker hair - this also works well if you need to add streaks or highlights of different color hair or brightly colored strands. Because you leave the hair sewn to the weft and reapply it in a patter that lays down the air is weft sew next to weft working toward the back of the head you don't have to glue the hair totally all over to the cap, as you have enough layers of hair to hid the wig cap and what's under it even if it moves a bit, and since it can move a bit it appears more natural. Depending on how quick you are at sewing, tacking the wefts back to the cap can not take much longer than the gluing process but then you end up with a wig that is comfortable to wear and does not cause a head ache after several hours of wearing it.

you never cease to amaze me with your methods of making cosplay!!! i'm cosplaying jolyne cujoh to sakuracon 2020(along with lightning, following your tutorial for that!!) and this method will help a lot with her entire wig!! I wanted to give the effect of the hair being pulled into buns, instead of having the typical short base wig with clip on pieces (if you get what i mean lol) i honestly never considered doing this. i have a ton of shitty wigs i don't need so i'll probably practice before i do it. thank you again for having cheaper alternatives for your tutorials!!! you'll always be my favorite cosplayer 💜

Thank you Alyson! I have a wig I bought for a Kaguya Shinomiya cosplay and it's so bulky. I have been trying to find a good tutorial to give me a base on how to restyle it and this gave me the best vision of how I can make it work. I love all your work. Thank you so much!

Whenever I have a bulky wig I just cut out hidden chunks of hair at the last of the wig to thin it out!

I love your painting method for wigs! Its really important to use cheaper acrylics though, because those dry matte. I went with my more expensive acrylics that I use for actual paintings at first and it made my wigs look even more shiny than before, then I switched to the cheaper variety of paint and it works wonders!
