@Utonian21 True, but I disagree with a degree. Those who investigate will get a sense of what caused the distraction, meaning they get a better understanding of the source and how to deal with it. You can choose protection and live, but living and getting nothing done other than standing in a corner because you're too scared to do anything isn't better. Will they die? Probably, would it be in vain? Not certainly, as at least the survivors know what is out there and can plan on what to do

this is easily the best modpack he's played. It completely encapsulates the feeling of being completely alone, but that eerie feeling that maybe you're not, that the early versions of Minecraft used to convey. It's a mix of nostalgia (with the old textures and sounds), and horror with the concept that those fears that you had as a kid playing on your survival world and thinking that Herobrine would show up around every corner. I remember when I was a kid and sometimes I'd be playing Minecraft, late at night, and I'd randomly think of a Herobrine video I saw earlier that day. I would get so scared and anxious that he'd show up at some point that I'd have to shut the game off. There were times where I just wouldn't play a specific world for a while because I'd get scared. This modpack perfectly encapsulates that feeling. It brings back a lot of memories. This modpack is kind of like having all of those fears as a kid come true. Nostalgic horror is great at bringing back great (and sometimes creepy) memories, whilst also being super scary. It's the perfect kind of horror.

The visuals are honestly the most unsettling thing for me. It's like what (old) Minecraft looks like in a dream. It has that classic vibe to it, but something just doesn't feel quite right. The movement, the quality, the atmosphere, it all feels familiar, yet very different. Even the music is chilling; it does sound like something in the style you would hear from C418 but again, something about it doesn't quite hit the mark, it doesn't seem right. The thing I love about this mod is that is doesn’t just capitalize on horror. It capitalizes on terror. Now, a lot of people use horror and terror interchangeably, but they couldn’t be more different despite revolving around getting scared. Horror relies on shock and awe, busting its entire load in 1 or 3 goes. Yeah, horror is scary, but it usually wears off pretty fast as its only skin deep. Oh no, it’s a jump scare, ahhhhh. Same thing with Five Nights a Freddy’s. Horror is formulaic. Things in horror (like games) are easy ti overcome, and often violence IS the solution. I mean, you’re even rewarding for killing in some horror games. Now terror, terror is a different beast all on it’s own. It does scare you, yes. But it doesn’t do it in the same way horror does. Terror uses your own mind against you, turning you into your worst enemy. Things that involve terror involve uncertainty, and uncertainty makes the brain go go go, thus turning your imagination against you. A really good example of terror is Subnautica. Unlike most scary games, there is no reward for killing. Violence will not truly save you (unless you’re an expert PRAWN pilot who can fight kaiju) like it will in Resident Evil. Uncertainty also has a big role to play in it. This mod is terror incarnate, as it uses nostalgia and unassuming textures to disguise itself. Even when you first start, you notice some things are off if you’re a regular Minecraft player. The music isn’t quite right. It’s almost right, but something is off. The caves are unnaturally dark, and you hear weird things, sounds that are not like the scary cave sounds that you’re used to. Then it gets worse, like an unassuming cow that charges you down, or the music becoming discordant, and even split second appearances of… *Him.* It all adds up, and the biggest thing that will really get you is not the loneliness, but the uncertainty. You’re constantly on edge, struggling to discern from which sounds are coming from in your house and which are in the game. Which sounds are good, and which are bad. You’re always filled with uncertainty as the entities act will no set patterns, and we humans love our patterns as we can easily recognize them. Like I said before, this mod preys on your nostalgia and uncertainty, using randomness and terror to break you.

Ghost leviathan. I freak the fuck out, my ship breaks, and I hit pause. I came to terms with losing my hardcore run. Unpause,GL hits me once, almost dead. I shoot the stasis rifle and pray it will even do anything as I sea turn and seaglide the opposite direction. I did make it out alive and to my base. I had to just sit there and ponder existence for a while… All that to end up dying INSTANTLY a while later because I decided to knife a gasopod.

He's on the same page as the viewer, acknowledges the horror going on around him, is very much helpless to stop it but tries persevering. He'd probably have a similar-ish reaction to most people playing something like this, alone.

around the 1:52:00 mark I love how he gets scared of the torches he placed down while trying to flee.

1:56:11 legitimately sent shivers down my spine as I never expected to see herobrine actually move. He normally just stands there creepy like but at that moment... jeez.

Did anyone else notice that after the door opened and he went outside that there was a flash of blue steve pants behind a tree middle left edge if you look at 32:52 to be precise

The found footage style intro to this instantly made it so much more interesting to me. Really hope he continues this one, it left on such a good cliffhanger. 😊

anyone else get anxiety every time he leaves his door open, WITH HIS BACK TURNED TO IT every time he goes back into his house at day? like, "ooo yeah, let's make an entire set of iron gear while my BACK IS TURNED to the DOOR THAT OPENED AUTOMATICALLY *MINUTES* AGO."

Seeing all these retro textures and sounds and the low resolution fills me with such an uncanny feeling of nostalgia mixed with a tense unease that takes me back to playing Minecraft alpha versions when I was a little kid, back when the herobrine stories first started and the game was arguably at its scariest

apologies if this was already mentioned but on the playstation 1 sometimes 3d textures would wobble and warp. theres most likely a shader or mod in this pack that causes that similar affect you mentioned near the beginning!
@nigeladams8321 Жыл бұрын
It was caused by the processor only dealing with whole numbers rather than numbers with decimal points. Relying on integers rather than floats meant that the vertices of the models had to snap into position rather than smoothly move

I recommend doing a 100 days video in the Betweenlands mod! It’s a spooky dimension mod with lots of lore, detail and effort put into it
