As an engineering ‘lecturer’ at a UK university, I think this video is excellent at explaining the power of OneNote. Many of my students use it to mark up slides or take down my content from the white board. OneNote also works as an app on iPads. They also work with the excellent Apple Pencil. Hopefully, your college gives its students free copies of MS Office - mine does. Overall, I use both a Surface Pro 6 i5/256gb and an iPad Pro 10.5 in/256gb both with their respective pencils. The most important recommendation of the video is that it’s always best to write your notes rather than type (on auto pilot). Even the ‘old pen and paper’ is better for memory recall when you exams come along than typed notes. There is software now for scanning and filing paper notes into the cloud. Being 60 I still recall how to write.....

Every Surface Pro review talks about how great the stylus is and they show some gimmicky demo of how you could take notes. Every time it's obvious they dont actually use it to take notes. This is the first time I've seen someone that obviously uses the device to it's full note taking glory. It was informative and fun. Your note taking skills are on pointed. Cheers!

You can use OneNote from your phone, to take pictures and in 2-3 seconds you have the picture on your surface too. OneNote for mobile uses Office lens and it will crop your slides to the edges automatically. Enjoy and congratulations!

I also use one note with a stylus. It is great to have a modern handwriting process, the only thing complicated for me is the review process. One note, concepts, and other programs are like an infinite canvas. For reviewing my nothes I still have the need and urge of having separete pages to look for my notes. This thing is not really a bad thing, but personally, for me an app woth separete pages would be a big plus.

Question: if I’m someone who wants to combine typing and drawing a LOT can I open one note on my laptop too and sync my typing there? (like google docs) where i type on my computer but then draw/write on the tablet? will it sync up in real time? Or should i just use the surface tablet to type when i want to type? I’m just concerned about having to pick it up and put it on the keyboard every time i want to type. it sounds like it could get real annoying real quick. thanks so much for this awesome video!! super helpful 😊

Whenever I type to take notes, I copy/paste words used by the teacher too often, OCD also kicks in if I make a typo, feel like students behind me are reading and judging my notes and also focus too much on structure which the software allows. Writing automatically forces me to summarize more often, OCD wont activate if I leave a bit more space between words by pressing spacebar 2x, a sense of privacy knowing that people have a hard time reading my handwriting and gives more freedom in structure. People who write on a touchscreen to take notes are pioneers who were already cool before it becomes mainstream.

I think it depends on your school! I have peers who take notes on iPads, and others use just their macbooks (and those get really pricy!) so in the end it kinda depends on your surrounding. But also, if you think this will help you stay organized, you should go for it anyway! School is about what's best for you and best for your education, not about what others think!!

Tia V you can print out on regular paper. It will format for page size. If you move too far to the right side of the environment, you may want to move some of the notes further to the left, or it will make the printing too small to read comfortably.

Hey the main thing that prevented me from getting a surface pro for college is that you get more space to write down notes in a notebook (i.e. you can look at two pages of notes at once and flip between different sections at will) so I was wondering how you dealt with the comparatively smaller screen size.

@kaitshipp
@kaitshipp 4 жыл бұрын
@@dankness4950, I've been looking into things that might possibly cause the SP7 to slow down. The only things I have found that might possibly be the problem is updates that "break" the system. A few of the updates in the recent past have caused problems like making the system run slowly, deleting all settings/customization (I had that one) . What I did was delete the update and restore it to what it was before and wait to the next update. I wait a bit to research the reviews on the current update before applying it, just to make sure it's not going to "break" anything. I use quotes on break, because the SP7 can usually be restored and updates can be deleted (usually). If an update CAN be deleted, it usually fixes the issue. I hope this helps. The only other thing I can think of is having too many high res tabs open (i.e. Hulu, Netflix, KZbin) open at the same time just on different tabs. My 11 yr old had this and once I closed them, just like magic, hers started working well again. I'm guessing you have already tried this one though. Also, the cache fills quickly and doesn't remember the settings you set (i.e. dont remember this ever... still does) and sometimes that creates problems, but emptying it is fast and painless. I do it weekly. Sorry this turned out to be so long. I hope this helps.

Neither ones better then the other one. Its whatever works for you. And being in computer science i think you’d wanna familiarize yourself with many different operating systems. I can use both macs, pcs, iPhones, androids. I will say i have my surface one note app linked to my iPhone one note app. So i can look up notes any time on my phone without my computer.

I've been using my 2-in-1 for 1 school week and I just love it so much. Note taking has been so much easier and it's much easier to study now. I can write meters of notes without worrying about running out of space and without having to get new notebooks, which is one of the main reasons I chose to get a 2-in-1 as my laptop for college. The main challenge for me is to get used to how writing feels on a tablet laptop, since it still feels way different from using pen and paper. Still, the benefits outweigh the costs and now I don't have to study with tons of paper strewn across my desk.

I wish I could print my damn notes... it's the one pitfall of OneNote having an infinite canvas, I just wish it were more like Notability or Goodnotes in that it's made for printing. I'm proud of my notes, ok. What you didn't mention that's cool as hell: -you can import Powerpoints and pdfs, which is like. A lifesaver at Uni. -Double clicking the top of your Surface should take a screenshot. Just crop it and drop it in OneNote. Boom. -You can easily splitscreen on the Surface -Yes, Palm Rejection is a thing, and OneNote does it well. If it's somehow not doing it's job well enough, there's a setting within the windows settings that completely disables touch input while your pen is within range of the screen (which is when you can see a cursor under the pentip). You can rub your palms all over the screen while you write, it won't make a difference. Things to remember: -You can't fucking print OneNote pages because the formatting is whack -Sharing OneNote pages is hard if someone else doesn't have OneNote (cause infinite canvas) -It crashes sometimes -You can't rotate anything for some reason -again, and I cannot say this enough, you cannot print -Very limited selection of tools (it's enough, though) -a4 pages for printing or at least formatting tools to configure how i want to print my page would be nice microsoft

The surface pen ( pro 4) is the worst I know, I have used a Samsung android tablet with s pen (2016) for years and the resulting writing is exactly my handwriting, but today I received my surface pro 4 and the writing is disgusting, it loses all its expressiveness, softening the letter until it is ILLIGABLE. The writing is incomprehensible, whoever uses it, most likely, will be very disappointed. There is no way to solve that, I have seen several videos and in all the ones that show "writing", it is exactly the same. The surface pen provides everyone who uses it with the same stylized handwriting that can barely be understood. I bought the surface so I can use Word and my dictation program, but I've lost taking notes. A shame.

So the Surface Pro can be used to take notes in class but it can also be used as a „normal“ laptop to write long papers on, right? I‘m looking for something that can replace my big and heavy laptop, and at first I was leaning towards a MacBook Air but I also wanted something to improve my note taking and overall studying (which always becomes kind of a mess with unorganized and incomplete pieces of paper) and it seems the Surface Pro combines these two elements perfectly. Thanks for your video!

MrsButterfliege123 hell yeah! I own a Pro 6 and I take a lot of note taking for my seminars and also with clients. It is a full laptop with windows 10 and a tablet... It's the best of the 2 worlds! Or rather 3 worlds if you consider note taking important. Consider pro or go depends on your needs

Your presentation style is extremely cool! It's fluent and informative and it's a joy to watch your face. This feels really fresh and nice when compared with all those slick haired Apple Productivity Buffs. Also, you gave real world examples how you use it in your real life. Can you comment on the handwriting to text conversion? Problem with "drawn" text is, that it is not searchable/indexable.

I agree about all the nice advantages a Surface has in combination with One Note, I've been using it myself for a year now. The only thing i'm a bit worried about is the fact that if i want to Export my One Note Pages to printable PDF's, it just doesn't fit and looks horrible, especially if i imported graphics etc... Maybe there's an option to change some settings, so One Note has the PDF A4 directly when i'm writing on it. If anyone knows, I'd be glad for some advice. Cheers, good Video btw!

Love this video. Everything in this video is exactly why I love using Surface. I'm a slow writer so dealing with jumpy lectures slows me down cuz I have to erase and go back and write stuff. With surface and onenote I can delete words and letters quickly. Rearrange sentences into a better format. And switching between a highlighter, pen, and different colors of each is factually faster on a tablet. I've never been able to have colorful notes with physical note taking tools. Surface has changed that and looking back at my notes is way easier because of it.
